My first experience in a care home for my husband. I was pleasantly surprised by the care and attention he received as he was bedbound.
He received good humour and respect at all times, and as a visitor every day to him, I was welcomed by the staff.
The food consistency was tailored to his particular
need.
Medical attention was always available.
Entertainment was organised.

I feel that the overall care given to my wife has been very good, and would recommend this care home to any other service user.
Her general well-being has improved since she has come here, as I am able to visit her more frequently.
She doesn't want to move into another care home!

My husband was transferred from the hospital to the home in August 2022. He was receiving end-of-life care. The overall care is good, and the nursing input is excellent, with the excellent support of local paramedics and subsequent numerous visits to A&E - all excellent. My husband has improved and
is now stable, and I believe the excellent support of the home and community services has supported this improvement.

Medical staff, first class, professional and very kind.
Office ladies are extremely helpful and friendly.
The furniture in the bedroom looks warn and tied and needs attention.
The accents of some agency staff can create a barrier to effective communication with some residents, which leads to safety
issues in some situations.
Overall, I have nothing but praise for the care and kindness of the full-time staff at Sycamore Lodge.

My mother went into Sycamore Lodge last September (20) and her care has been excellent. All staff I have had contact with are cheerful and polite. Mum is kept busy with loads of activities to keep her alert and contented.

My dad has been living at Sycamore Lodge for the past ten years, and I would like to say how grateful we are to all of the staff for their friendly and professional service.
The staff love the residents and it shows, my dad always smiles when they come to talk to him. They are part of his family now.
During Covid-19, it’s been wonderful that we get a weekly video call from dad or when possible a socially distanced visit.
When mum died last year, the staff brought dad out to put a rose in the hearse, which was beautiful and brought many tears. And some staff came to Mum’s funeral to represent dad.
The staff go above and beyond their duty. Thanks, everyone!

My Mum has been in Sycamore Lodge since July, she has settled in very well and says that she is happy. The staff make time for Mum, and she joins in with the activities. There are no problems with calling to find out how Mum is and talking to Mum on the phone. During these difficult times with covid
19, we were able to have visits and kept within the 2-meter distance. I am very happy to know that Mum is being well looked after and is being kept safe.

My father has been in this home for about a year now. The staff are brilliant with him, he loves them all, they are all so good with him. All my family would like to thank them for being so kind to my father.
COVID has been horrid for us all, but more so for the wonderful staff of Sycamore House,
who at these difficult times have still managed to keep us in touch by video call every week without fail. Thank you all so much.

An extremely enjoyable Valentine's celebration meal. Relatives could take down their partner to participate in an evening meal. The room was delightfully decorated and the atmosphere joyful. An excellent 3-course meal provided by the chef and good support form the carers. A real highlight of the year.

Management and activities staff put a lot of effort into making a special evening event for couples on Valentines Day. Dining room decorated with balloons and roses, candles and chocolates. The chef excelled with a delicious three-course meal and only for a cost of £5. It gave me an opportunity to share
a special time with my husband.

My father was receiving end of life care at Sycamore Lodge due to being diagnosed with terminal cancer. He spent nearly 2 weeks at Sycamore Lodge. We as a family couldn't ask for anything more. Staff were kind, caring and professional and met my dad's needs when asked by himself and us as a family.
We sat with him from 8 am-11 pm every day and even saw the New Year in with him. Staff were more than happy with this even allowing dogs to visit.

My mum has been in Sycamore Lodge for over two years now and the change in her calmness (for the better) is staggering!
All of the staff that I have met have been friendly, chatty and always have time for the residents.
The home is warm, clean, there is plenty of light and has a lot of activities
for the residents to keep their minds occupied.
I really haven't got a bad word to say about Sycamore Lodge, and I strongly recommend the home as a great place for those who need it.

The staff go out of their way to make my husband happy. He has a really good relationship with the carers but three in particular. I'm so grateful for everything they do. The care home is always clean and tidy. Lots of activities to do for residents.

I see my husband almost every day so I see the day to day running of Sycamore Lodge. In my view, it runs very well. The activities are very good and fun for the residents. The residents are well looked after and the carers are always on hand for their needs. I see the management staff always interacting
with residents also I must mention the food is excellent.

Bye and large I am happy where my wife is. As I have not met any of the night staff I cannot comment on nights. 95% of the day staff I feel do their hardest in a demanding job. As they are moved around different areas, sometimes daily, it might account for days that my wife seems more stressed than
others.

My father was recently diagnosed with Dementia. After a refusal with another home, Sycamore Lodge agreed to support the transfer of Dad from hospital to them.


I can only speak very well of the care that my Dad has received. Dad was quite aggressive when he arrived but they made sure that the relevant

support was in place in helping him settle with lots of patience and kindness. I called every day and liaised with Sycamore Lodge as to when would be best to visit and for an update on him and I have never felt that my phone call is inconvenient or a nuisance.


In this world of Dementia there are something no rules to behaviour and whilst sometimes this is out of character for people who have this, I have never been made to feel embarrassed for this.


Most importantly for me, the home is always providing stimulation and company for my Dad. He does have his moments but he is still my Dad and I feel safe in the knowledge that he is being well looked after. Thank you

Barry

Barry O'Driscoll

Job Title: Service Manager

Joined: 2021

Barry qualified as a Mental Health Nurse in 2005. Prior to qualifying, from 2010, Barry worked across Acute and PICU settings as a staff nurse and manager and moved to the independent sector in 2008 working in a variety of quality and managerial roles. Throughout this time Barry had responsibility for a variety of setting including personality disorder, PICU, forensic pathways as well as social care environments including learning disability and nursing homes.


Barry joined Shaw healthcare in Oct 2021 taking up the role of Registered Manager at Sycamore Lodge. Barry is passionate about excellent service delivery and enhancing the care experience for our residents and families. Barry is also focused on staff engagement and experience believing that good care is only possible with a consistent and engaged staff team.


Barry is passionate about patient-centred care and multidisciplinary work to achieve the best outcomes for patients in our care.
