Staff could be quicker in response to resident's needs as in going to the toilet etc. Feel awkward asking for help from some staff. Staff need to know the condition of residents. Most of the staff are very caring, but room for improvement.

Reply from Heather maxwell, Manager at The Elms Care Centre

We regret that T H doesn't feel that residents are treated with dignity and respect and that although most staff are caring there is room for improvement. We welcome concerns raised in respect of care services and will act upon any received. Staff will receive further training on the principles of care, including dignity and respect to improve our service delivery

Everyone has been very helpful in helping me to settle in and nothing has been too much trouble. All my visitors feel very welcomed and can come and go at any time.

Very helpful, kind and caring staff from top to bottom! Only one carer I was glad when she wasn't on duty.

The small criticism I have is that a hearing aid went missing and a bottle of spray. I suspect it got gathered up in soiled bedding. Understandable but expensive.

Reply from Heather Maxwell, Manager at The Elms Care Centre

We sincerely regret that personal items have been mislaid and would be willing to offer reimbursement in full. Staff have been reminded to be careful with personal items especially smaller ones like hearing aids.

My mother is a lot better mentally since moving into The Elms Care Home last year. She is very well looked after by everyone from the handyman to the manageress who cannot do enough to make her stay very happy, nothing is too much trouble.
There are always plenty of choices for meals which are plentiful
and tasty. She also enjoys it when they have singing for entertainment and the visits from the local vicar.

An excellent care home with caring staff. Good quality meals and a high standard of hygiene. A high level of entertainment with the residents encouraged to take part. The home is occasionally let down by outside services. We have waited for approximately 3 weeks for a hearing aid. We have now purchased
a new one.

It is very homely but would like to be in my own home but due to circumstances, I need to be in a home. On the whole, the home is kept very clean. Food ok but not to my taste, all staff are very kind to me.

Reply from Heather Maxwell, Manager at The Elms Care Centre

We are more than happy to cater to resident's individual likes and dislikes and offer a choice of meals at each meal time. Our Cook meets with each resident daily to go through menu choices. We also seek the views of residents and relatives in menu planning at both resident meetings and through our annual resident survey.

I cannot fault the care my father has received since coming to The Elms Care Centre. All the HCA's are kind and helpful and always there for me as well as my father. I cannot thank them all enough as this is a very difficult time for me and all our family.

My family member requires a lot of support and the staff both encourage her to participate as much as she can. All the staff are very helpful, polite, smiling and encouraging. When my family member was ill before Xmas (2017) senior staff called the doctor and kept us up to date on her recovery. They
took time to explain to her why they were fussing around her and constantly reassuring her she would not be going into hospital, which she was very anxious about. The food provided is excellent and she often comments when asked how much she enjoyed her meal even though she cannot remember what she's eaten. This is a very supportive home, both to residents and family and visitors. I believe she has been well looked after.

We have nothing but praise for every aspect of The Elms Care Centre.
We have found the quality of care, and kindness of staff and facilities exemplary. It is a difficult time for families to make life changing decisions for loved-ones; we were so fortunate that The Elms were local to my father and
step-mother which enabled this transition to happen without any problems. Each time we have contacted The Elms we have been treated with the utmost courtesy and professionalism. The Managers and care staff are acutely aware of the resident's needs; it is obvious to us that staff don't just look after the resident's needs, they really care for them as individuals. This is an outstanding care home.

Feel mum would benefit with more interaction and exercise. She needs prompting to dress appropriately and wash/clean teeth regularly, this has been discussed and agreed but it is very hit and miss. Overall staff are friendly and appear to be caring.

Reply from Heather Maxwell, Manager at The Elms Care Centre

At the Elms Care Centre we take on board feedback received from relatives and residents. With this in mind we are currently recruiting a second Social Activities coordinator to assist in developing activity provision. We have also sourced monthly outings for our residents in customized and wheelchair friendly transport which will commence in April. We strive to assist residents to achieve a high level of personal hygiene but also encourage independence for our residents, particularly when they which to attend to their own needs.

My husband has been a resident in the home for 3 1/2 years and has been treated with kindness and respect, as have I. There is a lovely atmosphere which is so important. The food is always very good and his clothes are beautifully laundered.

Excellent overall care especially most of the healthcare assistants. Where it falls down is when there is a shortage of healthcare assistants due to illness or personal reasons. Understandably in the winter, and not quickly filled by an agency and due to cost. Rooms, food and nursing very good. Highly
recommended.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.539)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.539) out of 10 for The Elms Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.893 for The Elms Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (75 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.893

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.646 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Elms Care Centre is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.4 = 0.946

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
