My father, who is 97, has been a resident at Kenwyn for just over 9 months and both his health and wellbeing have improved; I attribute this to the excellent support and encouragement that he receives. The nursing staff are first class, professional, compassionate, and caring. Dad is treated with dignity
and respect at all times.
In walking along the corridor, it is notable how each member of staff will greet a resident by name, making time to talk to them and make them feel special. The dining room with its semi-formal atmosphere and good food encourages Dad to chat and be sociable, eating three meals a day, very different to eating alone at home. With so much space at Kenwyn there are rooms and outside spaces where family and friends can sit with residents; the coffee and cakes, available at all times, help to reinforce the home-from-home feeling.
As a regular visitor, I am made to feel not only welcome but part of the life of the care home, something that I value greatly.

I have been a resident here for almost a year. I am looked after and I like the staff. I enjoy most of the food, but I am a bit fussy! I enjoyed the curry recently and I like any sponge pudding!
I liked a trip to the salon and am looking forward to going again, the hairdresser did exactly what I asked
for with my colours.

I have lived at Kenwyn since August last year. The staff are lovely and caring and I have my favourite staff. I am settled here and I enjoy the food and the entertainment. I love the activity girls.
My room is lovely and I have a view of the garden, which is beautiful, especially at this time of year.

My husband is at Kenwyn and he is very happy here as well as well cared for.
The food is nice and the staff are caring.
I visit every day apart from Sunday and I am made to feel very welcome.
And I love the cake and croissants each day. The staff are all kind and welcoming and I have never had

As far as I am concerned, Kenwyn is top-class. Nothing is too much trouble, the staff are amazing and incredibly helpful. When we first arrived I was greeted by a member of staff who is the home services advisor, she was so lovely and caring and compassionate. She went way beyond her duty to make sure
everything was up to scratch. They have looked after my husband so well and he has settled in much better than I anticipated. I would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff for everything that they do.

As a family we have been very happy with the care our father had received since his stroke in November. All the staff are friendly, caring and professional in their care for Dad and he is definitely in the right place for his care and safety. Staff are always willing to help like today when I couldn’t
get a taxi arranged due to school pickups, the manager drove us in the minibus to an audiologist appointment and ensured Dad arrived safely in time for his appointment. The staff take responsibility for the care and support and Dad is very happy and cared for at Barchester Kenwyn.

I would like to say a very big thank you to all at Kenwyn Care Home who provided excellent care for my Father over the last 9 months of his life. He was looked after by their memory Lane/Tresco team at a time in my father's life when his care was very complex and demanding. The home is clean, well-presented,
friendly and well-staffed. It was wonderful to see how caring the staff were whilst also at the same time able to provide expert nursing care for his dementia. I am very grateful for the service provided which allowed me to sleep at night knowing he was being looked after so well. Thank you.

I recently visited Kenwyn Care Home and was met by a lovely manager.
I was offered a drink and a slice of Victoria sponge made by the chef that morning, it was delicious. The manager took the time to show me around the home and answered all my questions. I felt completely at ease.
The staff who saw
me all took the time to say hello.

My father has just been admitted. Our experience from the initial enquiry phone call through to his admission and welcome has been absolutely top rate. My Mother came to this home in February. I live out of the county it was hard but the Service Advisor talked me through the process and put my mind at ease. Since she has been admitted mum has settled well and enjoying her meals and is still close to her old home in Cornwall, where her friends are.
Living far away is hard but the staff let me do virtual visits, talking to my mum on video calls. She has never been one for technology but the staff support her. My wife and I are reassured she is cared for and not alone anymore.

What a Great team the staff at Kenwyn are. My mother who is in the Dementia unit had her birthday today and they put on a lovely display of balloons, banners and made a special cake for mum as she can only really eat pureed food so it was lovely to see they went out of their way to make it special.
I
honestly cannot thank the staff for all they do for my mum and to mum they are her family and that means the world to me.
People are very quick to judge carers and nurses and just presume everything should be done perfectly but do they realise what actually goes into caring especially with very demanding patients who require specialised help.
We as relatives obviously want the very best care and it is very easy for us to say your not doing this or that right but I know if I spent a few days actually inside the home doing the work they do opinions and expectations would change. They deserve our praise so please be nice relatives.

Just returned from a fruitless visit to see my sister who is end of Life at Kenwyn Care Home. Nowhere on the write up about Kenwyn do they advise friends or families not to visit as they have an outbreak of Covid at the moment. At the door, we were told they have been closed already a few days. Why
was this not put on their site to prevent worthless visits? Sometimes family travelling many miles to get here.

After moving to another care home, I realised people actually cared about me. I felt bullied at Kenwyn Care Home which came from the management down. Always talking behind residents' and family members' backs and sadly hiding the truth. Kenwyn used to be a lovely place when I first arrived but it became
toxic and the activities and money they were given during even covid times was zero. Terrible activities and that was really hard for me mentally being locked into a care home.
They are more worried about their chandeliers than caring for the residents. The one person who really cared about me and all of the residents was the Sister on my unit. All the kind and good staff left. People need to know the truth and how they made me feel.

This home was recommended by professionals but there was a definite lack of care and compassion towards my mum. The list of issues is long, basic needs not attended to, very rude manager (think she may have left) both to other professionals and family members and staff. Mum's needs were not met and
were often overlooked. Staff told me on one occasion that she was having CPR when in fact it was a different client with the same Christian name. She went without meds because staff refused to allow entry to a named person despite Government guidelines saying to the contrary. They tried to feed her fish and chips when they knew she was finding it hard to swallow. She could barely swallow yoghurt or ice cream never mind chips! They failed to listen to her needs and suggested instead that we were purely thinking of ourselves. Mum was distressed and confused without the reassurance she needed. The whole experience was horrendous and I would never recommend this home to anyone for a loved one.

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 109 registered maximum number of service users is 21.8, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello, my name is Amanda Oxley and I am an Operations Manager for Barchester’s South Division. I adore Barchester as a company, especially loving Barchester’s values, support and structure.


I am delighted to now be based in Kenwyn Care Home with Cornwall being a part of the world I love, having holidayed here often.


My role is to support the team and I have been welcomed warmly by everyone here at Kenwyn.


I have over 6 years of management experience within Barchester and recently took on the role of Operations Manager.


I look forward to working closely with the entire team.

Hi, I'm Stacey, and I am Kenwyn's Deputy Manager. My journey to Kenwyn was inspired by my two decades of caring for my dad who battled Dementia. Knowing Kenwyn's stellar reputation in Dementia care, I felt compelled to join the team, believing my experience could make a meaningful difference here.


When I'm not at work, you'll often find me exploring National Trust places with my husband, children, and our playful dog, Bodhi. Family is at the heart of everything I do, both personally and professionally.

Extremely skilled in her field, Adelina is the Head of Kenwyn's Memory Lane Community.


Adelina is loved by residents, relatives and staff and works incredibly hard. Her passion for her work and residents stands out.


Adelina has been a nurse for more than 10 years. She chose Barchester due to its reputation for Person-Centred Care.

Martin first joined Kenwyn in a Housekeeping role, although his ambition was always to become Kenwyn's Gardener.


This year his dream came true and Martin took his longed-for role. Martin absolutely loves his work and it is clear for all to see. 


Kenwyn's gardens are truly a hidden gem and an extension of the luxury Kenwyn offers. He has a lot to keep on top of, but with his passion for his role and Kenwyn, he continues to do a fantastic job.

Holly Rimmer

Job Title: Head of Housekeeping and Speak up Champion

Hollyjoined Kenwyn in 2018 as a carer, bringing dedication and compassion to her rols. Over the years, her commitment to excellence and her natural leadership skills have seen her progress to head of House Keeping. Holly leads her team with the same care and attention to detail she has always shown, ensuring Kenwyn remains a welcoming and comfortable home for all.


Holly is also Kenwyn's Speak Up Champion and says:
'As speak up champion for the home I act as a voice for colleagues to express their ideas, develop new ways of working and a pathway for them to report concerns. I regularly meet with the manager to discuss the running of the home from the colleagues’ perspective and am grateful that my colleagues feel able to trust me to speak to them.'

Ela Wisniewska

Job Title: Head of Pencarrow Community

Joined: 2005

Ela has been a valued member of the Kenwyn team for 20 years. Her dedication to building strong relationships with residents and their families ensures everyone feels truly at home. Ela is passionate about providing the highest standard of care and creating a warm, welcoming environment where residents feel supported and cherished.


Outside of work, Ela loves exploring the UK in her favourite adventure so far has been travelling the iconic Scotland NC500 route. When she's not on the road, Ela enjoys realxing with a good movie.
