I have a number of clients who are resident in Trelana Care Home and whose affairs I manage on their behalf in my professional capacity. I have always found the staff to be extremely helpful going above and beyond their duty. All staff are friendly and go out of their way to say hello and have a chat.
They take time to get to know the residents and those around them be it family, friends or professionals. Communication with me has always been very good and I have always been contacted if there is an issue or problem. They hold regular meetings with relatives/representatives of residents to aid communication as to what is going on in the care home. There are always activities going on in the home. The staff are constantly thinking of new ways to change and develop.

A well run Nursing Home which has improved greatly under its current ownership. Friendly staff who work hard to ensure their residents' needs are met and who support residents' relatives well when the need occurs. Relatives/supporters meetings are held on a regular basis and are informative about intended
changes and are a good forum for airing problems and for passing on our appreciation to the staff. Our mother is well cared for and is happy and content and it is lovely to see her interaction with the staff whether it is the carers, cleaners or cooks!

I have limited experience of this establishment. My aunt was admitted in April 2017, I have visited three times. It compares favourably with other care homes that I have experienced with my mother and father. I live in Kent so find it difficult to comment on value for money. The price levels are different
from my experience in Kent.

I have limited knowledge of activities and meals etc. but what I have seen appears satisfactory.

The home has reacted positively to enquiries and issues that have affected my aunt to date to the best of my knowledge.

Mum seems to be well cared for. She is offered a meal choice and even when she changes her mind when the meal arrives another option always seems to be found that she likes. Care has been taken to try and find activities she likes even though she refuses to leave her room very often.

My granddad stayed there. He had Alzheimer's but then he had a stroke and it got a lot worse. They were brilliant with him and also helped my grandmother. He passed away about 6 months after he went there.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.234)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.234) out of 10 for Trelana Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.909 for Trelana Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (20 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 22 Ratings = 4.909

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.325 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Trelana Nursing Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.2

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
