A lovely welcome for my 96-year-old mother, beautiful room and very friendly staff. Everything was explained carefully to her and all the family’s questions were answered so we came away feeling confident that she will be cared for extremely well.

The care that my grandfather received during his 5-week respite stay recently was absolutely wonderful. He is 97 and has dementia. The staff did everything possible to meet his needs and make him feel at home. As soon as we arrived I knew that he was going to be looked after well, the staff were so
helpful, making notes of his quirks and habits and were just so kind. Every time I rang to see how he was I was told what he had been doing such as singing group and playing bowls. Things that he loves that I hadn’t told them about so you knew instantly that they cared and were communicating with him well. It was a huge comfort for us to know that he was safe and being well looked after whilst we were dealing with a family emergency. We can’t thank them enough and wouldn’t hesitate in arranging another stay in the future.

My mother came to Windmill Court in April 2017. She had begun to have falls frequently, often at night, and it became clear that she needed real ongoing support. Moving one's mother into a care home is an emotionally difficult thing to do. However, Windmill Court welcomed her with great kindness, and
they were kind to us (her children) as well. Three of us live too far away for frequent visits, particularly during Covid times, but my sister is very close by and keeps us constantly updated - with much detail.
We have found the level of care at Windmill Court to be excellent - and that is for nearly five years. Despite the deterioration of extreme old age, our mother is treated with kindness, patience and respect. There has never been a time when we have worried about the quality of care she is receiving. We feel very fortunate to have found a care home that really does care.

My dad is currently in Windmill Court Care Home. He’s been so lucky to get a room here, it’s spotlessly clean, smells fresh every time we visit, the staff are just so lovely and friendly and the manager is very supportive and kind towards the needs of my dad. Knowing my dad is being well looked after
here is such a huge relief. I would 100% recommend this lovely home. Thanks, Windmill Court.

My siblings and I made the decision to find a care home for our mother about four years ago when she had had a series of falls. Windmill Court has been an amazing find for us. I visit regularly, being the nearest of us all, and there is nothing that escapes my notice. I can say with truth and complete
transparency that Windmill Court has exceeded our expectations in every way. My mother was welcomed to the home, and the fact that she wanted all her belongings around her, in the way of furniture, curtains, pictures, bookshelves etc. was completely respected and welcomed. She was told that this was her ‘forever home’ which meant a great deal to us all.
Many of the staff there are the same people as when she arrived, and they are wonderful. They know her and she them, and that is a source of great reassurance for us all. I have been able to visit any time I like, except for when Covid provisions came into play, and I know that she is in the best hands possible.

My mum-in-law has been at Windmill for almost one year and has received the best possible care. She was entirely independent before her stroke so found it very hard to adapt to a very much smaller life where she has become very dependent on the staff who care for her. This has been done beautifully
and Mum now regards many of the staff as her good friends. Windmill is very lucky to have the new home manager, she has made some very good changes to the home, including creating new and useful roles for staff, and an increase in staff as a whole. I would recommend Windmill to anyone who needs this level of care.

My gran came to Windmill Court as, initially, a very temporary measure, but as time went on it was decided that she needed round the clock care, as a family we were really hesitant at first but the staff at Windmill Court have been very welcoming and understanding of my gran's needs which very quickly
put us at ease.
The home is like a 'home from home', very clean and bright, the staff are wonderful and full of fun (which put my gran at ease also) they include everyone with activities and the food is amazing, so glad she's safe and very well looked after, the whole "care home" experience is not just for my gran but for our family visiting, made to feel very welcome on visits and included every step of the way with decision making.

During the times I visited I found the staff extremely helpful and friendly. Mum wasn’t long at Windmill Court but she was well looked after by all the staff and made as comfortable as possible seeing she arrived there soon after a partial hip replacement and a broken wrist.
I would seriously recommend
Windmill Court and wish I had put her there from the start.
Thank you one and all.

We are extremely pleased with the care Dad receives at this care home. As Dad has very complex needs, he is always well cared for and the staff treat him with the greatest respect. The interaction Dad receives from staff really does make a huge difference to us all, especially to him as we know how
difficult this adaption has been for him. It gives us peace of mind knowing that Dad is being cared for by the wonderful staff here.

My Uncle came into Windmill Court to have one month of respite care as he had just lost his wife and was not coping at home. After the month was up we asked him if he was ready to go home but he said that he wanted to stay there and said he did not want to go back. We knew he was being well cared for
and had all the comforts of home, so were happy for him to stay, if that is what he wanted. He has been here since July 20th 2020 and is now 98 years old. He has become quite frail but we are very happy that he is getting the best care available. He is very comfortable in his own room with his own facilities and his own comforts around him. We are happy he chose to stay, as he has the best of everything. Thank you for his care.

My mother-in-law spent the last 18 months of her life at Windmill Court and we couldn’t have wished her to be in a better place. She received outstanding care from the outset. Management were supportive and accommodating. The staff were professional and attentive. The Activities Co-ordinator was particularly
supportive and made my mother-in-law’s last 12 months both stimulating and enjoyable, until her declining health became restrictive. On the whole, she was treated with kindness and dignity throughout. As a family, we were always made welcome to visit (pre-COVID) and during COVID lockdown, felt that Management dealt with the difficult circumstances extremely well, keeping everyone safe. We would recommend Windmill Court most highly.

This was my aunt’s first experience of a Care Home. Although initially reticent, she quickly came to realise how the staff were there to make her life simpler and safer. Being mentally acute, she quickly made a number of friends amongst the staff who I believe, in return, have enjoyed her wit and willingness
to engage and converse. The security that the Home offers, the care and diligence of the care staff and the proactiveness, flexibility and approachability of the management element have all been very much appreciated, particularly during COVID times when personal contact has been limited. In this, my aunt’s and my own experience of the Home, has only been highly positive.

At the end of November 2020, it was recognised that my Mum was not going to recover from the infection she had. Myself and my brother and sister were all allowed to visit Mum, to say goodbye to her and right until the end, someone was with her all the time. All the staff were so kind and treated us
all with respect, making sure Mum was comfortable and not in any sort of distress. They arranged for subdued lighting and background music in the room, which just felt right.

It was a very hard decision to move Mum into a nursing home after caring for her in her own home and in my home, but it was the best decision we made. So much better for her and the home and its staff far exceeded our expectations. She stayed there for over a year needing 24 hour care until she peacefully
passed away in July. From the managers to the cleaners, the staff were compassionate, caring, kind, gentle, respectful and professional at all times, always putting the needs of the residents as a priority and nothing was too much trouble. The home is so clean, fresh and welcoming, the food is amazing, fresh, healthy and home cooked. We have nothing but praise and gratitude to Windmill Court and their handling of end of life care made it so much easier for us at a very difficult time. I would have no hesitation in recommending the home as a wonderful place to look after your loved ones or indeed a place to spend your golden years.

Mum spent just under 7 months at Windmill Court until her death in July 2020. We were very fortunate to find her a room here as this home is renowned as being one of the very best in Cornwall, and this did certainly prove to be the case. She was very happy during her stay and insistent that she would
not move anywhere else. All the staff at Windmill Court were very kind and made her feel at home. The food was of very high quality and while she was able to eat, she always enjoyed her meals. Our sincere thanks go to everyone working here and to the local management for their compassion and thoughtfulness in assessing the needs of each individual.

My Mum had a fall in late winter 2020 and went downhill over the following weeks, losing weight and losing mobility. The Covid-19 lockdown struck just when she needed care most, I was lucky to find her a place at Windmill Court for respite care: During her stay staff were caring, welcoming and understanding,
they encouraged her to eat better, regain her mobility and generally start enjoying plenty of chats again.
Despite the appalling comments of PM Johnson about care homes and care workers I have to say that the home was incredibly well managed and the whole staff worked hard to cover the shifts of other carers who were on sick leave; some went beyond the call of duty, left their families and moved into the home in order to reduce the risk of the virus infecting patients. PPE rationing affected the home in the early weeks but management found new systems to reduce infection risk to the minimum. Not only were Mr Johnson's comments wrong, they were insulting. Thank you Windmill Court!

Reply from Sandra Tucker, Home Manager at Windmill Court

Thank you Fiona, it was an absolute pleasure to care for your mum. I will share your review with all of the team who I know will appreciate your words of support. We worked very hard over the last few months to ensure that we remained COVID free at Windmill Court. We wanted to protect our residents and staff team but also ensure that they feel safe and continued to enjoy the day to day life. We couldn’t have done this without the continued support and understanding from family and friends. I’m so pleased that you feel your mum enjoyed her stay at Windmill and that we were able to support her to enable her to return home. Kind regards Sandra.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.503)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.503) out of 10 for Windmill Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.268 for Windmill Court is calculated as follows: ( (42 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.268

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.235 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Windmill Court is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.8 = 0.735

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
