The team at Ivydene are proud to have just received another Good CQC rating (April 2023) – with a good in every single area.

The team are what gives this home such a warm, family feel, with many having been with Ivydene for over 10 years. And the home manager is also a care home chaplain, so loves delivering religious services for some of the residents.

The team follow Sanctuary Care’s Enriching Lives Framework, based on the six senses people need to meet to feel happy and fulfilled – a sense of achievement, belonging, continuity, significance, purpose and security.

They are passionate about finding out who their residents are as unique individuals. They take time to get to know their life histories.

Residents enjoy so many activities, from animal visits and music from a local school choir, to baking, painting, visiting entertainers and gardening. The home also has a hair salon, for appointments with a mobile hairdresser.   

The home has just received a Magic Table, an amazing piece of technology for people living with dementia. The table projects interactive light games onto surfaces and residents gently move and stretch as they play together, so it is wonderful for not only cognitive skills, but for encouraging gentle movement.

Ivydene is a beautiful home located in a residential area of the mill town of Ivybridge, with rooms on the top-floor overlooking Two Moors Way. The residents enjoy lots of trips out, with walks down to the River Erme and other attractions.

The team provide residential, dementia, nursing, palliative and respite care, which can be booked in advance. The home is also proud to be part of Plymouth Dementia Action Alliance, a group devoted to making Plymouth more dementia friendly.

Our mum was in Ivydene Residential and Nursing Homefor three months and we just wish it could have been for longer.


We are very grateful to all the staff for making Mum's last few months so happy. We all felt so peaceful about Mum, knowing how kind and caring all the staff are, and how they always

made time for Mum and for us, whatever they were in the middle of doing. Mum's key worker told us on the first evening that we could visit any time of the day or night, as this was now Mum's home.


Mum was encouraged to join in all the activities - of which there are many - and really enjoyed the socialising at meals and in the lounge. The food looked great too!


It made us so happy how genuinely caring all the staff are. We know that Mum loved you all too. We have no hesitation in recommending Ivydene.

My mother was in Ivydene for four months before she died. She settled in immediately and was very happy and content. There was a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere, and her bedroom was comfortable. She enjoyed being downstairs with other guests - and loved the food! The carers were very kind and patient
and ensured that she was included in any activity that interested her. She was always neatly and nicely dressed, and the staff even took the time to treat her very dry skin on her hands and face. Mum's visitors were welcomed, too, and when she died, the staff were very thoughtful and supportive towards the family. Thank you.

My brother was in Ivydene Residential and Nursing Home for about two months and the care he received was absolutely amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and they did every care with a smile on their face. What I noticed was there were not just carers but nurses so they dealt with problems swiftly.
It was a happy place, people singing and lots of talking to the residents, I actually miss not going there now. Not that I tried the food but it was meals cooked from scratch. Looked lovely.

What an amazing care home. I have never met such a friendly, caring team. Every single one of them always has a smile on their face and my dad has settled so well, they made him so welcome from day one and nothing is too much trouble, they always make us so welcome when we visit. My father passed away on 25th November in Ivydene Residential and Nursing Home. I want to thank all the wonderful staff and management for the care, love and dignity they showed my Dad, and also to myself and my family. I stayed by my Dad's side for the four days leading to his passing, sleeping at
his bedside. The staff showed me so much love, feeding me and making endless coffee! They looked after Dad, cleaning him, turning him with so much love. My special thanks go to the wonderful new management team, the nursing team especially the staff member who was with us when he passed, and the amazing caring team, night carers and to all the amazing background staff. You all made a sad and emotional time so much more bearable. I will miss seeing you all.

This was our first experience with any care setting for respite care. Having spoken to a few places, I felt Ivydene warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.
The staff and residents all seemed friendly.
My Relative seemed very relaxed and had been cared for during her stay.
The manager
kept in touch and it was great to get a few updates and photos.
We will use Ivydene again.

Initially I found Ivydene Care Home really good. The carers, especially one, were really good and caring. The receptionist was really good as well.
The problem is the management, or let's say, lack of management. The management showed no compassion whatsoever. The home had Covid and only one of us
was allowed to see my mother-in-law and what was unbelievable is that the carers weren't even aware the home had Covid, they thought it was just one member of staff.
I wouldn't recommend this home purely because of the management.

Mum was admitted to Ivydene when her care was more than we could manage and the care and respect she was shown, went above and beyond anything we could have hoped for.
We were immediately accepted as family and made to feel that any questions we had, anything we needed during our visits, was no problem.
The
compassion shown, as she passed, made it so much easier for us.
The staff from domestic, through to Nurses and Managers, are all wonderful.

Recently, we enquired about respite and possible long term stay for a family friend who has had a stroke. The manager got back to us straight away and invited us to the home. When we got there, we were offered coffee, and even the chance to stay for lunch. The manager was very approachable and friendly,
and there seemed to be lots going on in the home, and the staff seemed very friendly. The newsletters and WhatsApp group are a good bonus, and the home appeared Covid safe without the crazy barriers other homes are still enforcing. I am very confident we have chosen the correct home. The house was clean and tidy but also homely. Everyone seemed relaxed and allowed to do their own thing, which makes life more meaningful than some of the childish activities we see in other homes. A great place for sure.

My mother and father arrived at Ivedene just over three weeks ago. The staff are excellent, caring, professional and informative when asked questions. Both parents, over the three weeks, look cared for, clean, happy and building strength. Their care and well-being has been excellent. Thank you.

Ivydene is a lovely home. My father is treated with dignity at all times. His room is always clean and bright. The standard of personal care he is given is excellent. He comments every day how much he enjoyed his meals. My children love coming to visit Grandad. The staff and other residents are so friendly,
it's always enjoyable for them, which helps brighten my father's day.

Medication was not given at the correct times. Lack of personal care. The food was inedible so took in ready meals. A very long wait to get assistance when using the buzzer. No laxatives were given to help bowels for over a week (Parkinson's so has to have daily), then given a strong laxative which
lead to badly soiling. Personal dignity was ignored when taken to the shower room. The staff always too busy to spare a few minutes for a chat. All complaints to the manager ignored or met with rudeness.

My Mum has been at Ivydene since Aug 21 and I cannot praise the staff highly enough for how amazing, caring and patient they have been with her even though she has been very difficult to deal with due to her health problems. It's lovely to see her now in the lounge, enjoying watching the activities
and being encouraged to join in when she can. The WhatsApp group shows us what is going on and the manager is always available for a chat. I have a weekly video call with my Mum and can also phone her whenever I want to. My Dad lives locally and visits regularly and all the staff are so good to him too. He tries to visit around 3 so he gets a cup of tea and delicious homemade cake! It was their Diamond wedding a few weeks ago and they put on a lovely afternoon tea for family and friends. It was a wonderful occasion and I can't thank them enough for that and all they do to take care of my mum and give me peace of mind as I live in Kent. A really lovely home, so friendly and helpful.

My mum has been a resident since 2019 and is living with dementia. I find the staff very caring and compassionate. They did everything they could through lockdown to facilitate contact with family. Mum won’t talk on the phone anymore so the garden/conservatory visits were invaluable. The new manager
is brilliant and really improved communication further with the creation of a WhatsApp group for residents' families.

My father (97) moved to Ivydene Care Home in Ivybridge, after a fall at home meant he needed residential care. He has been there for nearly two years. Quite possibly the best move he could have made! He is well looked after and the staff are very professional, while at the same time being very friendly
and helpful to both him and the family. The staff are very warm and welcoming and Dad has been able to make friends among residents and staff. Even during the worst of the pandemic the home remained well organised and maintained a very good level of care despite the inevitable staffing problems. My dealings with Sanctuary Care as well as Ivydene also have given me confidence in the wider organisation.

We live 500 miles from Mum's care facility so have a long journey to get there. We have also been limited to visits due to covid and the home having to close for the resident's safety. We book every 8 weeks to make the journey and tell the staff in advance so we can book our visits. We can't thank the
staff enough for ensuring we get to see and take Mum out when she is able. With the regular updates from the staff members, we feel happy that Mum is safe, well, and being cared for. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ivydene, we love visiting Mum, and the staff are always welcoming and friendly to us.
