The team at Ivydene are proud to have just received another Good CQC rating (April 2023) – with a good in every single area.

The team are what gives this home such a warm, family feel, with many having been with Ivydene for over 10 years. And the home manager is also a care home chaplain, so loves delivering religious services for some of the residents.

The team follow Sanctuary Care’s Enriching Lives Framework, based on the six senses people need to meet to feel happy and fulfilled – a sense of achievement, belonging, continuity, significance, purpose and security.

They are passionate about finding out who their residents are as unique individuals. They take time to get to know their life histories.

Residents enjoy so many activities, from animal visits and music from a local school choir, to baking, painting, visiting entertainers and gardening. The home also has a hair salon, for appointments with a mobile hairdresser.   

The home has just received a Magic Table, an amazing piece of technology for people living with dementia. The table projects interactive light games onto surfaces and residents gently move and stretch as they play together, so it is wonderful for not only cognitive skills, but for encouraging gentle movement.

Ivydene is a beautiful home located in a residential area of the mill town of Ivybridge, with rooms on the top-floor overlooking Two Moors Way. The residents enjoy lots of trips out, with walks down to the River Erme and other attractions.

The team provide residential, dementia, nursing, palliative and respite care, which can be booked in advance. The home is also proud to be part of Plymouth Dementia Action Alliance, a group devoted to making Plymouth more dementia friendly.

My brother-in-law was a resident of the above care home.
My husband and I visited weekly and became more concerned with our relative's condition. We had to find the staff on three occasions to reposition him and empty his catheter bag, on one occasion we found him totally naked apart from a dirty
t-shirt and an overflowing catheter bag.
We also had to find a nurse to get help as my brother-in-law was in so much pain which resulted in his second admission to the hospital.
My brother-in-law sadly passed away in hospital on 28th November 2021. He was admitted with UTI and dehydration which quickly turned to Sepsis.
As a result, my husband and I would not recommend Ivydene care home.

My Brother spent his last few months at Ivydene Nursing Home. I would not recommend this home, my brother was unfortunately not looked after and did not receive the basic care he needed. I know he couldn’t afford the top level of care but even so, they failed him and us.

Ivydene is a wonderful home for the elderly. My mother was there until she passed away, when she arrived she was very poorly. They nursed her so beautifully, even turning her in bed every 2 hours. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff to help her. One day I went in and they had had the donkey sanctuary
to visit, donkeys were brought into the garden and all the residents were encouraged to pat them, another time they had a trailer of rabbits and guinea pigs to visit the residents.
I was so impressed with Ivydene that when my aunt needed care I placed her there. Again she is being beautifully looked after, by many of the same staff who looked after my mother. Ivydene has even made it possible for me to take my horse there in a lorry, helped my aunt out to see him and pat him, this did her no end of good, with Ivydene it is always that case that they will do everything that they can to look after both the emotional well being and medical well being of all their residents.

Ivydene staff facilitated a very nice garden visit with my aunt. Providing tea for us all and assisting with other matters. It was a delightful visit and when we passed through some of the rooms to leave it was all very bright and cheery, the staff we met were cheery and a credit to the facility.

My mother has lived at Ivydene since mid-2018 and after her understandable concerns settled into her new home well.
The forget me not team has always been very caring and supportive particularly during this challenging covid era.
Since the re-opening, our family members have been able to visit and
enjoy the communal garden areas which have been enjoyed by everyone on the days.
At 96 years old we are comforted to know she is so well looked after.

My mother was admitted from home during lockdown for end of life care at Ivydene. This happening during lockdown was particularly difficult emotionally for us all but the staff at the home were clearly so warm and kind to my brother. She was agitated at times due to her illness but I was able to see
their professionalism and care of her. When the situation deteriorated Nurse was quick to facilitate compassionate visiting so that we could be with mum as she neared the end. They put music and films on for her in her room with staff members even bringing in dvds from home so that she could watch her favourites. We are grateful to you all for making what was an awful time as positive as it could be. Thank you.

My mother has been a resident of Ivydene for just over a month and I have found the staff very helpful. As we are currently in lockdown I have not had any personal contact with my mother, but the home has helped the situation with video calls and just recently allowed visits in the conservatory. Difficult
to give a detailed review at this time as I have never had the opportunity to go inside the home.

My mother spent 8 years at Ivydene Residential and Nursing Home. She was well looked after during that time. The staff are caring and compassionate, the home is well run, the food is good, there is a wide range of activities for residents and visitors are made very welcome with complimentary tea and
biscuits readily available. The last year has been difficult but every effort was made within guidelines to enable contact between residents and family. Sadly my mother passed away a few weeks ago, again the staff were most respectful of our needs and my mother was treated with the utmost dignity.

My mum spent 20 months being nursed at Ivydene and her care was exemplary. She was treated with the utmost respect and kindness at all times. The staff were also very supportive of us, her family. The rooms are clean and bright and a nice environment to be in. There are also activities for residents
to take part in, crafts, games and visits from nurseries and schools. We couldn’t have asked for better care for our mum in her final days and would happily recommend the home to others.

I moved my Dad to Ivydene from another local home as the former home would not allow garden visits and instead had constructed a Perspex booth which distressed my Dad greatly. Ivydene allows garden visits and conservatory visits if the weather is bad with all appropriate infection control measures and
it is so much better. The face mask is a bit confusing for my Dad but he gets used to it. I am so glad I moved him and compared to what I read about other places via Rights for Residents Ivydene/Sanctuary seems to be doing a lot better than other places.

The home came with a strong reputation that was entirely justified in our own experience of a short period of palliative nursing care. The management and all the staff supported our family from the moment we made contact in a friendly and effective way. Throughout my mother's stay, she enjoyed her care
especially from the nurses and other care providers who invariably engaged her with compassion and the touch of humour that was vital.

My Nan passed away at the beginning of lockdown. On 7th July we went along to collect nans belongings which had been put into storage. On arrival, we saw 4 members of staff and none gave their condolences, we were then sent to the back door to be greeted by all belongings having been thrown into bags
and boxes, no care had been given at this difficult time, then on asking where the wheelchair was to be told no idea. The caretaker was really helpful and went in search he returned to say another resident was sat in it, so the chair was passed back not in the most hygienic condition. All this was just the icing on the cake after several months of constant battles concerning Nan's care.

The home did a brilliant job caring for our mother in her final months. A laugh and a joke with the carers went a long way, and they were attentive to our needs as a family. The standard of care was maintained throughout, and Mum passed away peacefully and with dignity, for which we will always be grateful.

My mother went into Ivydene in March 2020, from where she was living in the West Midlands. How I wished she had gone into Ivydene at least two years ago. The care and comfort she received were amazing and I will be eternally grateful for the staff and all they did for her, making her passing so lovely,

Dad entered Ivydene in December 2019. We as a family were greeted by extremely friendly and helpful staff; in a difficult time for Dad and his family.
Dad has settled well and is well cared for by sensitive and caring staff.
We are kept well updated with Dad's needs, any hospital appointments have
been sorted by very efficient nurses, and contact has been made by them with regards to Dad's health and well-being requirements.
This gave us peace of mind.

My first impression of Ivydene was very favourable as it is situated in a quiet residential area in a lovely town. The purpose-built accommodation is light, airy, clean and homely. The management team are friendly, very efficient and always approachable, and the care team were always professional, attentive,
extremely hard-working and provided a caring but fun atmosphere for the residents. My mum spent several moths in Ivydene, through apprehension, but on admission, she soon relaxed, became worry-free and began to enjoy the activities on offer which gave her a new lease of life.

Very, very pleased with my husbands care. Excellent nurses who were caring and involved me in decisions about my husband's treatment.
The caring staff all became friends and made us feel at home during his stay. I felt he was cared for with dignity, compassion and humour to jolly him along.
All
of the staff from the manager to the handyman were kind and helpful. I thoroughly recommend this home.

First and foremost the staff are exceptional. The care my mother receives is 100% good. The food is excellent and plenty of it.
Feedback for my mother's welfare is brilliant and she is 104 years old I am kept very well informed of her wellbeing.
The activities provided really help in keeping her mind
active.
The management is superb.
