Situated in the beautiful village of Buckfastleigh Redmount Residential Home occupies an enviable location in the Southwest Devon countryside.

Just half a mile from the famous Buckfastleigh Abbey the home boasts wonderful countryside views and a peaceful setting, as well as comfortable accommodation and dedicated care and nurture.

The home has an outdoor decked area, where residents can enjoy the country air and tend to the many potted plants that brighten the exterior.

Inside there are several well-appointed lounge areas, a conservatory and a dining room, as well as warm and welcoming bedrooms for elderly residents and those living with milder forms of dementia.

I was not happy with the manager and the lady that works with her. My sister and some of her family who came all the way from Australia were not allowed to have a photo with my dad because there were two extra people. My dad's health is going downhill. My dad would have loved this, they won't get another
chance (shame on the manager). The manager and the lady that works with her need to be more understanding. They come across as not caring. They will say differently. The other staff are lovely. Also, they need someone to answer the phone. Very difficult to get through even the hospital could not get through. The food looks good but dad is not eating much. The manager needs to work on her manner and the admin Lady.

Need to get their phone system sorted out as soon as possible, been told there is no one available to answer the at weekends. What if there was an emergency on my end and couldn't get a reply? Sometimes in the week no one answers the phone and have to keep trying. Staff have always been helpful especially
as I'm disabled and have a fear of a lift and they find other ways to see my hubby. Just need to get answering the phone sorted more so at weekends. Would be nice to get updates as to how my hubby is healthwise. Our daughter in Cambridge is his Power of Attorney so they ring her first if he is really poorly but I'd like to know when my hubby is under the weather. Other than this all is okay.

Thank you for your review of Redmount. We are really sorry that sometimes you have a problem getting through to the home at weekends, this is something we are aware of and we are trying to resolve. Over the weekends we do not have an administrator answering the phone and our care staff are always busy looking after the care needs of our residents (your loved ones), this is our priority. However, I can assure you that we will always contact you if there is an emergency concerning your relative. We are also aware that you are unable to use the lift to get to the floor your loved one's room is on, we have a dedicated visiting pod always available as long as your relative feels well enough to come down to it. We are happy to continue to provide daily updates on weekdays and we speak to you most days to do this. If you would like to speak to me in more depth about this please do ring and make an appointment for a meeting, I assure you of our best attention and support at all times.

I moved my mum here after two stays elsewhere: the manager appeared focused on the immediate needs, understanding in particular my mother's condition, providing a focused transition that saw her more settled than she had been in two previous homes. I never felt any concerns during the challenges for
care homes through the pandemic. What is important to me is that staff appear to know and understand my mother: reading the yearly review of her care plan there was a detailed level of interest and understanding I had not experienced before. I can honestly say that when I visit or speak on the phone all staff appear to know my mum well, update me with any issues that arise, and seem genuinely interested and friendly. Anyone who has experienced the world of elderly care will know how key that is. Throughout the transition to a new manager this has remained the case and I have every reason to believe this will continue. My father was also cared for here well some years ago, hence the choice now.

It was heartening to see my uncle being looked after by such an efficient and caring staff. Our visit today on the occasion of my uncle's 101st Birthday was made special by the home making a Birthday cake for him, such a kind thought.

I was very impressed with the professionalism of the staff as well as their great kindness and respect for the residents. Making a birthday cake for the morning of our uncle's birthday, when they knew some family were visiting was very kind thing. Our uncle and aunt are very well looked after.

My mother has dementia and is currently residing at Redmount. My mum is very happy there. My dad visits her everyday and is so grateful that she is looked after with dignity and respect. The staff are absolutely amazing, so hardworking and cheerful. They really do go the extra mile there, nothing is
too much trouble. The home is bright, airy and colourful, with a nice friendly atmosphere. My mum looks well and her hair is always made to look pretty. This means a lot to me (and hopefully to her as well) as my mum always looked after her appearance before dementia took her from us. The meals at Redmount are good too, with a good varied selection. My mum is now on soft foods and is provided with good nutritional meals that she can eat easily. My mum is happy, safe, warm, well fed and content at Redmount - I really can't thank the staff enough! If I could give you more stars I would.

Recent appointment of a new manager may well improve the marking below.
Currently the room is dirty and there is a lack of staff (numbers) to provide a satisfactory level of care.
£4000 a month should facilitate better levels of the above.

My dad has been made to feel really welcome. There has been a huge focus on making sure that he is catered for as an individual and despite complex dementia issues the team have ensured that they have made his transition from independent living to residential care as smooth as it can be. He hasn’t been
rushed or made to take steps that he hasn’t felt comfy with. He is slowly transitioning to a new life fully supported by a caring and professional team.

Our family cannot praise highly enough the care and attention given to my husband whilst living at Redmount. The Management and care staff have exceeded all our expectations in terms of the environment and support provided.
We were always made very welcome at each visit, were always greeted with a
smile and received regular updates during my husbands stay.

As I live a long way from my Dad it is a great comfort to me to know that at Redmount he is looked after so well. His room is very comfortable, spacious and light. It is decorated to a high standard and kept very clean and the meals look very appetising. My sister can visit regularly and the staff
always have time to talk to her about Dad's care etc. Although Dad is not an easy resident and does not co-operate with the staff, they do their utmost to look after him and are always kind towards him. Whenever I do visit, I can do so at any time and always receive a warm welcome from members of staff on duty. In my professional life, I have provided training in many nursing homes and I have a sense of goodwill from the staff and a sense of caring at Redmount and feel confident in that they will do everything they can to make my Dad's stay there as comfortable as possible.

I have found the staff pleasant, courteous and genuinely affectionate towards my mother who at times can be a little challenging. Weekdays there is a determined effort to engage the residents in some form of activity intended to entertain and/or stimulate them physically and mentally. With the help
of volunteers, occasional outside activities are arranged either in the local town or further afield using the homes wheelchair adapted minibus. Occasionally there are staff, resident and relatives meetings to discuss any problems or concerns and to brainstorm any ideas that could help all parties achieve better outcomes for the residents. There are no restrictions on visiting times and te and cake are always forthcoming. This all helps to generate a free and relaxed atmosphere within the home. The home is well led and any concerns are addressed as soon as practically possible. Should any medical conditions occur, prompt action is taken. The relevant authorities contacted as required for the resident's best interest. The time in attending to resident calls can sometimes be protracted, but with many residents to attend to this is not surprising, the staff cannot be everywhere at once. Redmount Residential Home is to be recommended.
