My Mum was taken from hospital to Seymour Court for palliative care.
I cannot praise the entire team at the nursing home, she was treated with such dignity and compassion from all the team as we as a family were, nothing was too much trouble.
The nursing team were amazing as the care team and also
the food was lovely and everyone so warm and friendly. Well done Seymour Court.

Most staff were kind and caring, never enough, difficult to find, particularly mealtimes and weekends. The cover fell off the radiator twice, the window was difficult to close and taps dripped continually, often overflowing. Previous occupant's clothes were left in the wardrobe for 4 weeks until I removed
them. My husband was often found in dirty, wet clothes having spilt food and drink, he couldn't pick them up, and often missed snacks. Often wearing someone else's baggy t-shirts even though I had provided an adequate supply of new shirts, more than once I shaved him because he looked so dishevelled. He was often not adequately hydrated and had numerous catheter problems and urine infections, which often went unnoticed by staff and were not dealt with in a timely manner. The lack of compassion following his death added to our pain, we left his room and had to wait in a corridor, by the usual consistently buzzing call bells, while staff prepared his body, we were told we could re-enter and saw no staff after that, just another job done! No sympathy was expressed or even a goodbye. Limited information on how to obtain the Death Certificate.
I realise a negative comment will not be printed, but question the validity of only printing 'excellent ones, some dating from 2018. Reviews posted regarding Seymour Court bear little resemblance to my experience, or those of other visitors, of over 3½ months, I visited my husband every day. Taking everything into consideration, and reading the daily diary that I had kept, together with visitors' comments, I feel that overall, my husband's care was often not good. Sadly, unlike some comments left, I often didn't feel confident when leaving my husband and at times left the Home very upset. When visiting my husband in the Funeral Home, although heartbreaking, it was such a relief to see him looking like his old self, so clean, tidy and well cared for, for the first time in 3 months.

After visiting a very good friend, surveying myself for future reference as I'm now 80 years of age and living alone, looking to the future as I would be more than happy to be a resident. I've had a lovely conversation with a young man who I gather was going an "inspection" at the time, everything was

During the last few months of my aunt's life, she stayed at this care home and received exceptional care. The staff from nurses to care, catering, cleaning and management were extremely warm, attentive and professional. My aunt spoke to me about the great care, assistance and dignity she was afforded.
When I first flew from abroad to be with her at the end, I was shown every kindness. Senior management went above and beyond finding me a space to complete some unavoidable work which allowed me to stay close to my aunt until the very end. Every member of the team treated her and me with absolute respect and warmth. I highly recommend this care home without reservation, it restored my faith in the quality of care homes.

When my aunt first arrived in the care home she was very distraught and did not want to go on living. There were various problems along the way but as time went on, both the manager and staff dealt with them in a kind and professional manner. They did all they could to make her stay as comfortable as
possible and were always ready to give comfort, support and advice to her family. After every visit, it was hard to leave my aunt but we always felt she was in safe hands.

This is without a doubt the best care home that I have ever visited. All the staff were warm, welcoming and highly efficient from the manager to all the ancillary staff. Patients were treated with such kindness and empathy and made to feel valued as individuals. One of the most striking features of
the care home is that it is a home for the residents and their families. It may sound mundane but the lack of institutional smell was unique.

Seymour Court has gone above and beyond to support Dad during his battle with Parkinson's disease. The staff are hard-working, diligent and above all caring. Their sensitivity to Dad and the wider family has been outstanding and I would recommend the service to anyone with a loved one who needs the

My mum was transferred to Seymour Court from Derriford Hospital because they have an excellent reputation in caring for residents in respect of end-of-life care. We were not disappointed - Mum's health has deteriorated over the months but at every stage of her care the staff at Seymour Court have been
wonderful. I was most impressed that regardless of the time of day I visited, I was always made welcome and mum was always clean, washed and wearing freshly laundered clothes. Her personal care has been amazing. The medical care provided was also excellent particularly as Mum's deteriorating health issues were a little complex but the overall focus on comfort and well-being was always uppermost in all of the nursing care. I would like to take this opportunity to mention the carer who prepared mum for transfer to the funeral home. Her absolute dedication and empathy as she bathed Mum for the last time and dressed her for the journey was exceptional. Thank you all.

My mum was diagnosed as end of life with only days left due to cancer, but a critical care nurse suggested taking her to Seymour Court. We had no idea about this nursing home but it turned out to be a wonderful place that gave my mum five more weeks of life, and my family five more weeks with our beloved
wife/mum/sister. I spent a lot of time there with her and the manager, carers and nurses were amazing - caring, patient, positive and friendly, and treated my mum with dignity, kindness and respect. The nurses explained things to us so we were not in the dark, even when it was not good news. The carers were so good to my mum and I thank them very much for this. Sadly my mum passed away a week ago. Two carers kindly offered to dress her afterwards and they put a rose in her hand, just a lovely thing to do. The manager talked us through the process to come, so helpful and needed. A thanks too on how well they looked after my elderly grieving dad during his daily visits to his wife.

My mum was placed in the home by the crisis nurse, and we couldn't have wished for, or picked, better, From the very first day, Mum was given excellent care, both medical and personal. The carers were all happy, engaging and extremely helpful, and the manager made sure we were fully aware of what was
to come. She allayed any fears about funding and visited Mum herself on numerous occasions. Every single nurse and carer that dealt with Mum showed her patience, gave her dignity, and when she passed, made sure she was dressed and even put a rose in her hand - a lovely personal touch. They also looked after my elderly dad, making sure he was fed as he sat at my mum's bedside, and allowed my sister to stay overnight with Mum. All I can say is that everyone involved in Mum's care, from the manager to nurses to carers, showed great empathy and caring and treated Mum with dignity, making a difficult time much easier to cope with. My thanks will forever be with them.

My sister was taken into Seymour Court as an emergency in March. The care she received was excellent. She recovered enough to know where she was and the interaction between her and the staff was great. Unfortunately, she passed away last week and was treated with care and dignity. The staff were also

My father entered Seymour Court in April 2023 and died on New Year's Eve 2023. He was on end-of-life care. The care and respect my father received during his time at Seymour Court, in my opinion, went above and beyond what is required from a nursing home. The staff showed nothing but respect for my
father, who could be difficult at times. The manager was exceptional as we lived in Kent, so there were always lots of emails and phone calls. We would show up unannounced, and she would spend time with us talking about our father. All the staff at this home go beyond what is required, and the patients are treated with dignity and empathy. The home was always welcoming, clean and homely. All the staff were friendly and showed nothing but friendliness. We were treated as part of the family. I cannot praise this home, the staff and the manager enough. If you are looking for a nursing home for a loved one, this has to be the best there is.

Dad spent the last 7 months of his life in Seymour Court nursing home where he was loved and looked after. Dad had complicated needs. I never once doubted the care he was receiving from all members of staff. I looked forward to my daily lunchtime visits with Dad and staff. We all laughed and cried together
when he passed away. The manager's door was always open. The nurses spent time explaining and answering my many questions. Thank you!

Marie-Claire is the Registered Manager of Seymour Court Nursing Home, a multi-award-winning nursing home specialising in end-of-life care situated in the heart of Mannamead. Marie-Claire’s experience in the care industry spans decades; she grew up in a family run home, which equipped her with the passion for caring for and empowering the elderly at the end of their lives, and the firm belief in dignity when dying.


Marie-Claire studied art at Central St Martin’s University in London, and later, Bezelel College in Jerusalem and Plymouth University gaining a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design. She used her skills as both a carer and art practitioner and combined this with the creativity and innovation her higher education had fostered, working in art-therapy in nursing and residential settings in Hertfordshire for many years. On returning to Plymouth, Marie-Claire continued to work in nursing homes, developing her care practice and undertaking further education in dementia studies. Her experience continued to be informed by her creativity, compassion and commitment to delivering exceptional care, when she joined the team at Seymour Court as Registered Manager six years ago.


During her time at Seymour Court, the home has won six regional awards and four national awards at the Great BritishCare Awards, including for Activities Co-Ordinator, Dignity and Care, and Palliative Care Home of the Year. Under Marie-Claire’s management, Seymour Court has also won the Dignity and Respect Care Home of the Year twice at the National Care Awards and were national runners up for the Care Team of the Year and Nutrition and Hydration. In the same period, Marie-Claire has also completed an NVQ in Management at level five, an NVQ in Leadership and Management at level five, and the St Luke’s Hospice Six Steps course. She is committed to best practice, leading by example and encouraging her staff to take every opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of how best to empower the residents under their care.


Marie-Claire feels extremely privileged to work with a team who share her vision for a home where residents are supported in making decisions about their care, encouraged to pursue their passions, and given the freedom and opportunity to flourish in their final years. The team at Seymour Court demonstrate an exemplary ability to deliver hope and dignity in a palliative setting. Their phenomenal skill and approach provide the opportunity for close work between residents and staff, enabling the individual to reach acceptance of the dying process and fulfilling wishes in accordance with religious, cultural, and personal preferences.
