Mum came to the unit to have a nasty bedsore treated. The staff and management looked after her very well and treated her with courtesy and dignity. She passed peacefully in their care.

My mother and father-in-law were resident for about two and a half months before they both passed. Our visits were many and we were always welcomed nicely. The staff were very kind to our parents-in-law and indeed us. We were able to ask things whenever we called and they were most informative. Seymour
Court was very homely and our minds were at rest when leaving there, assured that our parents were in good care. I don't know about activities, because our parents were not well enough to take part. Both their deaths were clam and dignified and loved.

The Seymour Court team looked after my parents during the final stages of their lives. They were treated with kindness, compassion and respect whilst there. I cannot speak highly enough of the team, without exception. The care was of a very high standard and we knew that Mum and Dad were safe, fed,
regularly looked after and made to feel very important. We too, as their family, felt the benefit of the warmth of the team, who also took time to support us during a very difficult family time.

Initially Mum was admitted for respite care whilst my dad was in hospital. On discharge from hospital he then joined her in a twin room where it became apparent that they both required nursing care. Having seen the initial care provided for Mum, we had no hesitation in keeping them at Seymour Court,
where they could stay together and be looked after with dignity and compassion. Little things such as making my dad a gluten free lasagne to stimulate his appetite after my mum passed away, to the care, attention and time given to them, and to us as the extended family. I felt I could leave Mum and Dad's care to professionals, who also became surrogate family, allowing me to spend time making precious memories in their last couple of months. I shall forever be grateful that we found Seymour Court and knew from our first visit that this was a special place indeed.

The staff at Seymour Court are special people. My elderly mother-in-law and father-in-law spent the final 3 months of their lives receiving not just professional nursing care during their time of failing health, but genuine compassion, attentive care, good humour, and respect. I regularly visited them
in the home and, no matter when I arrived, I would find staff treating my parents-in-law with dignity, patience and a ‘nothing is too much trouble’ attitude. What was telling was that my mother-in-law and father-in-law always remarked on how lovely the staff were and how grateful they were for the care they received. The staff took the time to get to know both of them. I and the rest of the family were also treated with respect and kept informed on all aspects of the health of my parents-in-law and any question or request we had was always dealt with promptly. This extended to the compassion and care that we received when my mother-in-law, and subsequently, my father-in-law passed away.

A lovely care home where both my grandparents spent the end of their lives. They were well cared for by friendly staff who supported both them and the family. They had a varied range of meals and were catered for, including specific dietary requirements. Their room was always very hygienic and they
were always dressed in clean clothes and had clean bedding.

Seymour Court was certainly the perfect place to be for the final 4 days of my sister's life for her end-of-care treatment. She was sent there from Derriford Hospital. From the time she arrived on the Tuesday until she passed away on Friday, she was treated by every member of staff with the utmost care,
dignity and affection. Nothing was too much trouble if any of the family members needed a cup of tea, just a simple cuddle or just a chat they were all there for us. It made us all feel like we had known every member for years. When my sister passed the dignity they all showed to her was exceptional there are not enough words to tell you all how much you helped us all through this difficult time in our lives. True angels in disguise one and all.

Seymour Court has been the right place for my brother to live the final seven years of his life. I viewed ten homes to find somewhere for my brother to go after being discharged from a stroke rehab unit, and this was the last one I visited (saved the best till last). I turned up unannounced and was
greeted warmly by the manager. Immediately I was given a sense of confidence that it would be the right place for my brother, and that has been the case. They have always treated my brother with care, dignity, interest and affection. Being younger than most of the residents, my brother, having been there a long time, has seen inevitable changes in personnel, but the continuity and standard of care, even though the Covid pandemic, has been consistently good. The manager and the nursing lead have always treated me well and made me feel like we were all part of my brother's family.

My mum has been a resident at Seymour Court for a year now. I cannot fault the amazing staff for their love, care and attention to everyone there. The manager manages an amazing team of staff. She is also very approachable and helpful in everything. For the first time in eight years, I can relax and
know that my mum is so well cared for. I also know that for any changes, they will contact me straight away. It's always very clean, the food is amazing, and the staff become a second family, which when you have a loved one so poorly is so very important. I cannot thank you all enough for looking after her; such a massive change in her overall well-being since being there. We love all of you.

Our friend and neighbour, who recently passed away, was receiving palliative care at Seymour Court. We could not fault the level of care that was given to him over the period that he was a resident there. All of the staff were very friendly and welcoming towards us and always took the time to update
us on current developments. The compassion and care that we saw being given to our friend was outstanding. The manager of Seymour Court spent a lot of time in discussion with us, both personally and on the phone; she is to be congratulated on her leadership of the team.

My dad was moved into Seymour Court from a care home as he had begun to deteriorate. We found the staff at the home incredible, caring and compassionate and treated him with respect at all times. He was well looked after. My sister and I were able to see him regularly and were made to feel welcome all
the time. We fully recommend Seymour Court. We were always kept informed if there were any changes to his health. We cannot thank all the staff enough.

The home is well-managed, staffed by the most caring, gentle and considerate people. Seymour Court had my mother as a resident from January-March when she sadly passed away. The absolutely fantastic love, care and attention that my mother received at Seymour Court has been replicated by even her own family.
Every member of staff is friendly, respectful, helpful, loving and caring,
and nothing is a problem.
For my mum, it was the same as being at home. I couldn't have asked for a better place for my mum to spend her last months.

My mother has been at Seymour Court for nine months, and during that time, the care she has received has been second to none. The staff and management really are like an extended family. They treat Mum with love and respect. The home itself is spotlessly clean, and the food is perfect. All are freshly
cooked onsite daily. Seymour Cour is most definitely a 10/10.

During the 15 months of my stay, I was treated expertly at all times. Even though my initial behaviour was extremely challenging. Sent from Derriford Hospital as an end-of-life patient unknown to me, thanks to the love and excellent treatment of all at Seymour court I'm now living in an extra care retirement
home. I owe my life to them, words can't convey the love and respect I have for them all. They are a wonderful group of dedicated people. My eternal thanks to them all.

Mum had a really lovely seven-week period of respite care at Seymour Court. All the staff were incredibly warm and friendly, and nothing was ever too much trouble. The home itself was clean and well-maintained, and Mum's room was bright and airy. The meals looked delicious, and there was a constant
supply of tea and cake. As a family member, I was always made to feel welcome visiting regularly. It was so reassuring to know Mum was in a safe and caring place.

My father was at this fantastic home for 19 months until his death on September 25th. All the staff are so caring and treat the residents like family. The manager is very professional, and the head nurse is a remarkable lady. She did a long shift to be with Dad until the end, something I will never
forget. As I live away, I couldn't visit as often as I would have liked, but knew Dad was comfortable and well cared for. The food is great; Dad loved Friday fish and chip day with mushy peas. Seymour Court is so special - to give them 100% is not enough. I will never forget all you have done for my dad; thanks to every one of you.

Marie-Claire is the Registered Manager of Seymour Court Nursing Home, a multi-award-winning nursing home specialising in end-of-life care situated in the heart of Mannamead. Marie-Claire’s experience in the care industry spans decades; she grew up in a family run home, which equipped her with the passion for caring for and empowering the elderly at the end of their lives, and the firm belief in dignity when dying.


Marie-Claire studied art at Central St Martin’s University in London, and later, Bezelel College in Jerusalem and Plymouth University gaining a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design. She used her skills as both a carer and art practitioner and combined this with the creativity and innovation her higher education had fostered, working in art-therapy in nursing and residential settings in Hertfordshire for many years. On returning to Plymouth, Marie-Claire continued to work in nursing homes, developing her care practice and undertaking further education in dementia studies. Her experience continued to be informed by her creativity, compassion and commitment to delivering exceptional care, when she joined the team at Seymour Court as Registered Manager six years ago.


During her time at Seymour Court, the home has won six regional awards and four national awards at the Great BritishCare Awards, including for Activities Co-Ordinator, Dignity and Care, and Palliative Care Home of the Year. Under Marie-Claire’s management, Seymour Court has also won the Dignity and Respect Care Home of the Year twice at the National Care Awards and were national runners up for the Care Team of the Year and Nutrition and Hydration. In the same period, Marie-Claire has also completed an NVQ in Management at level five, an NVQ in Leadership and Management at level five, and the St Luke’s Hospice Six Steps course. She is committed to best practice, leading by example and encouraging her staff to take every opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of how best to empower the residents under their care.


Marie-Claire feels extremely privileged to work with a team who share her vision for a home where residents are supported in making decisions about their care, encouraged to pursue their passions, and given the freedom and opportunity to flourish in their final years. The team at Seymour Court demonstrate an exemplary ability to deliver hope and dignity in a palliative setting. Their phenomenal skill and approach provide the opportunity for close work between residents and staff, enabling the individual to reach acceptance of the dying process and fulfilling wishes in accordance with religious, cultural, and personal preferences.
