My husband received end of life care in this wonderful home. The staff are so supportive, nothing was ever too much trouble, they work together and make a great team. The nurses are also very knowledgeable, always on hand to answer any queries, all led by a very competent and caring manager. The food
is cooked fresh daily and is delicious, thanks to two very talented chefs. In such a difficult time, Seymour Court became our port in the storm, we are so thankful to all the staff for the exceptional care and support, not only for my husband but for us also.

My father was only under their care for six days as he was end of life, but the care given was excellent. His dignity was returned after being in the hospital for three weeks. All the carers were supportive towards us all, and nothing was too much trouble. Food looked and smelt appetising, and his room
was so cosy and welcoming.

What an amazing nursing home - I cannot thank the team at Seymour Court enough for helping us through these times and caring for my dad with dignity.
It has been amazing the care that has and is being delivered by the team - Dad has enjoyed every meal, all fresh ingredients and freshly made in the
kitchen.
Thank you for helping support not only Dad but all of the family and friends. Mum and I have found this a great comfort to know that the staff all want to help and care.

My partner recently spent time in Seymour Court on an end of life pathway. The care, respect, dignity and professionalism shown to her by all the staff was amazing. Nothing was ever too much trouble to make sure she was always clean and tidy, and regularly checked and comfortable. Not only that, but

My partner had been in Seymour Court for several years with MS. He received the absolute best care given. Meals were freshly prepared, and the carers and nurses there were amazing. Always smiling, and they all took a personal interest in all the clients. This was truly ‘a home’ from home. Always kept
informed of changes and treatments. Very strict with Covid regulations to keep everyone safe. He died peacefully surrounded by loving staff. Before lockdown, there was always entertainment in the lounge.

Sadly my gran had to go into Seymour Court a couple of weeks ago as an end of life resident. From the moment my gran walked in the door, we, as a family, were made so welcome and felt as if we were by Gran's side every step of the way, until her very last day, even when we were not with her. Every single
member of staff were our voices and love when we were not there. The care my gran received was outstanding, and as a family, we are forever grateful. Seymour Court went above and beyond while they were looking after gran and still are now.
Thank you to every single member of Seymour Court for all of their hard work, love and support that they have shown not just our loved ones, but for us, as a family, as well. We couldn’t have done it without you!

I cannot review and recommend this home more highly than extremely excellent. All the staff and the manager are very caring, efficient, professional and kind. My husband died in the home, and I could not have has him in a better place. At the end, the staff nurse and the care home manager were with
him and were able to assure me he died peacefully. This was a tremendous blessing to me and my family.

After a year of uncertain times, I have to say I had no worries that my mum was being well looked after. I had photos, videos and regular phone calls from the home, which eased my mind, and something I didn't have to stress over. In all, this home has been a second family to me; they not only care for
the residents but the families as well; they go beyond what's needed.

My Dad spent the last 4 weeks of his life at Seymour. I have nothing but praise for the management and staff. My Dad was dreading leaving home to go into the home. He had had a previous very poor experience when he had to go into respite care for a fortnight to give Mum a break. She was his principal
carer. Despite the restrictions and guidelines for nursing homes to protect the residents from Covid-19, during the End of Life Care process, the family were allowed unfettered access to Dad to comfort him in his final days and hours. In the end, the staff went beyond the call of duty to be with him so he was not alone as he died. This meant an awful lot to the family. The sector often attracts some very poor and critical publicity. This does not apply at Seymour. It should be held as an example of how a nursing home should be managed!

My dad was terminally ill and was moved here. One lady, immediately, made me and my brother feel at ease at a difficult time. They treated my dad with dignity and warmth for what turned out to be his last two weeks of life. I will be forever grateful for this and would recommend this place to anyone.

Marie-Claire Foale

Marie-Claire is the Registered Manager of Seymour Court Nursing Home, a multi-award-winning nursing home specialising in end-of-life care situated in the heart of Mannamead. Marie-Claire’s experience in the care industry spans decades; she grew up in a family run home, which equipped her with the passion for caring for and empowering the elderly at the end of their lives, and the firm belief in dignity when dying.


Marie-Claire studied art at Central St Martin’s University in London, and later, Bezelel College in Jerusalem and Plymouth University gaining a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design. She used her skills as both a carer and art practitioner and combined this with the creativity and innovation her higher education had fostered, working in art-therapy in nursing and residential settings in Hertfordshire for many years. On returning to Plymouth, Marie-Claire continued to work in nursing homes, developing her care practice and undertaking further education in dementia studies. Her experience continued to be informed by her creativity, compassion and commitment to delivering exceptional care, when she joined the team at Seymour Court as Registered Manager six years ago.


During her time at Seymour Court, the home has won six regional awards and four national awards at the Great BritishCare Awards, including for Activities Co-Ordinator, Dignity and Care, and Palliative Care Home of the Year. Under Marie-Claire’s management, Seymour Court has also won the Dignity and Respect Care Home of the Year twice at the National Care Awards and were national runners up for the Care Team of the Year and Nutrition and Hydration. In the same period, Marie-Claire has also completed an NVQ in Management at level five, an NVQ in Leadership and Management at level five, and the St Luke’s Hospice Six Steps course. She is committed to best practice, leading by example and encouraging her staff to take every opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of how best to empower the residents under their care.


Marie-Claire feels extremely privileged to work with a team who share her vision for a home where residents are supported in making decisions about their care, encouraged to pursue their passions, and given the freedom and opportunity to flourish in their final years. The team at Seymour Court demonstrate an exemplary ability to deliver hope and dignity in a palliative setting. Their phenomenal skill and approach provide the opportunity for close work between residents and staff, enabling the individual to reach acceptance of the dying process and fulfilling wishes in accordance with religious, cultural, and personal preferences.
