My mother in law was taken to Seymour Court from Derriford hospital on end of life care. The care she received was second to none. nothing was too much trouble. On looking through her diary she has entered "they are looking after me extremely well and food is wonderful". Even in her final days the nurses
and team were sitting with her and we cannot thank them enough.

My father required care home facilities after being discharged from hospital, following multiple falls and illnesses.
Arrangements were made to transfer him to Seymour Court care home in Plymouth in May 20.
We had no acknowledgement about Seymour Court, we could only pray that it was suitable for
his current needs.
As I and most family members live abroad in Asia, it was indeed very difficult with the Covid-19 issue affecting everything globally.
The decision to stay at Seymour Court turned out to be really appropriate for his needs, and I have been receiving timely updates about my father's conditions from the management team led by Manager.
She has been exercising caution and flexibility in her decision about care for my father.
Besides, all staff in the care home have been helpful and professional, they all deserve my highest praise and appreciation.
My father had a very happy 90th birthday celebration party at Seymour Court.
I witnessed the level of care during my 3 weeks stay in Plymouth in July 20.

Seymour Court staff provided wonderful, compassionate support and nursing to my terminally ill mother. They were professional and humane in the care of her and enabled her to spend her final weeks, days and hours secure, safe and pain-free. She also had times of great joy and fun with the staff and
residents. They enabled her to face her final hours with calm and dignity. They were profoundly kind to us as a family during the coronavirus crisis and protected their residents and enabled us to have video calls and phone calls to be in touch. My mother wanted me to say thank you for making her feel at home, cared for and able to be at peace as her life ended. I will always be thankful that on the last journey in her life she was with the staff of Seymour Court.

We have been with Seymour Court for a small part of our lives and what fantastic staff. Friendly, caring and looked after my late auntie. The staff go beyond her/his job to attend to my auntie. The nurses and team on site have great control of medication. Information is always available if asked.

My wife has been a resident at Seymour Court for more than 3 years after suffering a brain haemorrhage followed by a further stroke. She is incapacitated having lost the power of speech, having restricted sight and with no use of her limbs on one side of her body. I cannot praise too highly the standard
of care my wife has received which has also been extended to myself as a daily visitor and made a world of difference in our situation.

My Mum was in case of these wonderful nurses for nearly six months on end of life. My Mum could be a stubborn lady but cheeky with it and each and every one of these nurses made her last six months as happy, comfortable and settled. Mum couldn't have asked for any more. Nothing was too much trouble.
These nurses go above and beyond the call of duty. They made Mum and all of us feel at home. They are fantastic.

I have been so pleased with the care that my grandmother received at Seymour Court. All staff are caring and put her needs first, always with a smile and a chat. They encouraged her to join in activities and gave her space when she needed rest. As she has approached end-of-life care now, their gentle

My mum has been in Seymour Court since February 2019 as with everybody I was concerned about her welfare but was soon put at ease, I cannot praise the management and staff enough, for example, my 90 year mum has not been well on several occasions, the staff were quickly on to it, doctor called and antibiotics
prescribed and administered which quickly cleared it up. Food A1, caring A1 and professional at all times.

I have great respect for everyone who is working at Seymour court. The care they gave my mother was excellent. The team spirit there is great, nothing was ever too much trouble, always on hand when needed. One of the many things that stand out is how passionate and hard working the care workers are

Seymour Court is a small and very friendly nursing home. After a welcome freshen-up by the new owners last year it looks smart and modern throughout. It is professionally run. The staff are amazing and teamwork is in evidence. Visitors are routinely welcomed with a hot drink and it feels like home
from home.


After some initial trepidation Mum has really settled here and three years down the line we wouldn't wish her to be anywhere else. In fact, I'd say she's really benefited from the excellent care she receives.


Outside facilities are a bit restricted due to a slope to a garden and a small patio space, but there are plenty of monthly entertainments laid on such as visiting performers and a hairdresser, and occasional trips out, to compensate.


All in all Seymour Court is brilliant. Thanks to its wonderful staff Mum is comfortable and contented and this is invaluable peace-of-mind to her family and friends.

I cannot praise this care home enough. The staff are so kind and caring. They always treat all of the residents with dignity and have a smile on their faces. They always have time to chat with residents and visitors despite their heavy workload.
The home is always clean and tidy.
There are regular
entertainments and activities provided which the residents really enjoy.
My mum is well cared for and happy.

My mum has been at Seymour Court for quite some years now which is such a comfort and relief to me as there isn't any other home (apart from her own) that I would rather her be in. The management are fantastic, the staff are amazing, so caring, kind, considerate and always have time for not only my
mum but all of her family who visit. The home itself is beautifully maintained and is always kept very clean and tidy. The home cooked food is great and the homemade cakes are delicious. I would 100% recommend this home to anyone.

My mother has been a resident at Seymour Court for some years now. The staff are wonderful, ALWAYS friendly, helpful and polite. They very obviously care greatly for the residents and their families.
I cannot recommend the home highly enough. It is well run and very clean. The atmosphere is always
happy and extremely welcoming.
The welfare of the residents is paramount and this is made obvious in everything they do here.
I strongly believe that my mum could not receive any better care than she does at Seymour Court which is always a great comfort to me and our family.

Marie-Claire is the Registered Manager of Seymour Court Nursing Home, a multi-award-winning nursing home specialising in end-of-life care situated in the heart of Mannamead. Marie-Claire’s experience in the care industry spans decades; she grew up in a family run home, which equipped her with the passion for caring for and empowering the elderly at the end of their lives, and the firm belief in dignity when dying.


Marie-Claire studied art at Central St Martin’s University in London, and later, Bezelel College in Jerusalem and Plymouth University gaining a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design. She used her skills as both a carer and art practitioner and combined this with the creativity and innovation her higher education had fostered, working in art-therapy in nursing and residential settings in Hertfordshire for many years. On returning to Plymouth, Marie-Claire continued to work in nursing homes, developing her care practice and undertaking further education in dementia studies. Her experience continued to be informed by her creativity, compassion and commitment to delivering exceptional care, when she joined the team at Seymour Court as Registered Manager six years ago.


During her time at Seymour Court, the home has won six regional awards and four national awards at the Great BritishCare Awards, including for Activities Co-Ordinator, Dignity and Care, and Palliative Care Home of the Year. Under Marie-Claire’s management, Seymour Court has also won the Dignity and Respect Care Home of the Year twice at the National Care Awards and were national runners up for the Care Team of the Year and Nutrition and Hydration. In the same period, Marie-Claire has also completed an NVQ in Management at level five, an NVQ in Leadership and Management at level five, and the St Luke’s Hospice Six Steps course. She is committed to best practice, leading by example and encouraging her staff to take every opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of how best to empower the residents under their care.


Marie-Claire feels extremely privileged to work with a team who share her vision for a home where residents are supported in making decisions about their care, encouraged to pursue their passions, and given the freedom and opportunity to flourish in their final years. The team at Seymour Court demonstrate an exemplary ability to deliver hope and dignity in a palliative setting. Their phenomenal skill and approach provide the opportunity for close work between residents and staff, enabling the individual to reach acceptance of the dying process and fulfilling wishes in accordance with religious, cultural, and personal preferences.
