The standard of care was excellent, especially personal care. The staff made visitors very welcome. Due to mobility problems regular exercise was carried out in individual rooms and all other forms of individual interests, e.g. handicrafts.

Our mother has been at Merafield View Nursing Home for more than 5 years now and needs round-the-clock full-time nursing care.
We are more than happy with the care that she receives and the way in which the management and all the staff keep us informed, as to any issues that may arise.
We the family
have felt fully informed and supported in the decisions that have been made regarding ongoing care. All the staff have been very sensitive to our complicated family dynamics.
We have always been made to feel very welcome and always enjoy a good cup of tea on arrival after a 210-mile trip for the visit.
Mum is very happy and comfortable in her large room with its beautiful views over the moor.

My husband was approaching the end stages of his life and was at Merafield for only nine days before he sadly passed away. The staff at Merafield are a credit to the care sector, they were the most caring, thoughtful and kind staff who treated my husband with dignity and respect. As a family, we want
to thank the Registered General Nurse and the team for everything, we appreciated you so much.

A warm and inviting nursing home, filled with so much love and respect for the residents and their families.
I have been visiting Merafield for some time and I always find it well-presented and the residents well-looked after.
The staff are very friendly, it is not like other homes I have visited.

Merafield View Nursing Home cared for my late wife’s cousin for approximately three years before she sadly passed away. She was given the best of care and respect by the team at Merafield View. I cannot speak too highly of her final years. In her words, they were the happiest of her life. I was a regular
visitor and always witnessed the very best of care for the residents. Thank you Merafield View for giving my relative some of the happiest days of a very hard life.

I have always found all staff compassionate, informative and respectful. The care has been outstanding before, during and post-pandemic.
My mother has always appeared happy and responded to the staff in a positive way. She is always presentable and her needs and her individual passions catered for.
For
reasons beyond my control I am now unable to visit but I am very happy with my mother's care and confident that her welfare is being looked after. Thank you.

My mother-in-law has been looked after for 5 years. She is happy, content has all her marbles but is completely bedridden. At all times especially in recent times, the staff have gone out of their way to keep the family link going with photos, calls, emails and total loving care.

My mother was being cared for in the nursing home, she had a number of problems with her health. She had metastatic breast cancer which was aggressive and it was taking over her body, she needed special care as in dressing the tumours which the staff was very good.
Mum also had a fractured knee so
she couldn’t stand or get out of bed so she was solely reliant on the staff which was again so good. The care staff I found was most helpful towards not only my mum but to the family as well, they made you feel so comfortable and relaxed nothing was too much for them.
If there was anything we were not sure about the staff would sit down and explain or give us good advice. The home seems very friendly clean and the food looks good.
My mum was end of life and when she passed away the staff were very caring towards the family, it made us feel like we were all one family .

My father-in-law sadly died at Merafield View at the beginning of August. The care and love he received from all members of staff was wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
He was kept clean, comfortable and very well cared for. A huge thank you to everyone involved. One thing that really
helped him to feel happy was being able to bring my dog, who he loved. There was not one thing I could say was a worry or disappointment. As visitors, we were looked after very well and when he passed, the staff were amazing. The decor is a little worn but is compensated by our brilliant experience.

My Nan was transferred to Merafield following a short stay in the hospital with pneumonia.
The care Nan received at Merafield was absolutely fantastic, all her personal, spiritual and medical needs were very well looked after.
Staff were timely, friendly and courteous, they were happy to help with
any of the family and Nans requests. The staff I encountered were clearly passionately dedicated to the care of others (thank you all, it was very much appreciated).

The catering staff always ensured Nan had what she needed, from cream on her porridge in the morning to a sherry glass at lunchtime!

Sadly Nan died last week but the end of life care she received was excellent, all the just incase end of life medications were on hand if needed (thankfully they were not). Staff were totally respectful after Nans death ensuring family were supported and informed.

I would not hesitate in recommending Merafield at this time.

Apart from the tired decor, this home is almost faultless. The residents are well cared for with dignity and with a cheerful demeanour. Staff carry on with their duties in a professional manner.
The food is on the whole good and well balanced. There are activities put on every day and the staff could
not be more friendly and helpful. A credit to the care service as a whole.
This is how nursing/care homes should be run - A*!

My father was in Merafield View for four months before his recent death. On my numerous visits I was unfailingly impressed by the warmth and friendliness of all the staff. Merafield smells clean and fresh on entering and creates a reassuring feeling of homeliness.

My father was always treated

with respect and never talked over. I felt that efforts were made to maintain as much dignity as possible in the circumstances. Staff were prepared to go out of their way to ensure his comfort and care, whether or not it was their direct responsibility.

I was particularly impressed that the care extended to family and friends. My stepmother, who visited my father every day, and I were always welcomed and provided with regular tea/coffee etc without having to ask. Food was home made and delicious.

The comments above apply to all the staff working at the home. Credit must go the managers who create such a warm and caring culture. I cannot recommend this home highly enough.

I was so pleased with care my husband received and I was looked after as well when visiting. I was so impressed with care from management to domestics. I'm going to see if I can stay there when I have a knee replacement sometime this year. Would highly recommend this care home.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.716)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.716) out of 10 for Merafield View Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.841 for Merafield View Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (37 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 44 Ratings = 4.841

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Merafield View Nursing Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.5

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
