This purpose-built care home provides nursing and care for older people who are physically frail and older people who have mental health needs such as Alzheimer's disease.

This residential and nursing home has a caring and friendly feel. Responsive management and excellent senior staff, particularly in the Dementia Residential section. Active entertainments staff are developing new ideas. Very welcoming to visitors at any time. Active and resourceful maintenance and grounds
staff. Care staff are patient and accommodating.

What I like about Elburton Heights is the attitude of the staff, not only to my mother but to me as well. I think the food, service and quality of refreshment is good, my mother always seems to have a cup of tea nearby. Her room is kept clean and so are the common shared areas. I feel reassured that
my mother in her twilight years is being kept warm, clean and entertained and treated with dignity. I would like to thank the staff for their dedication.

Made to feel very welcome when visiting the home before my mother was transferred from hospital for nursing care.
This feeling carried on from the moment Mum arrived until her passing.
All the care staff we encountered were very sympathetic and understanding of Mum's situation.
Any requests for help
were always met promptly.
Nursing care was also excellent and we were always informed of Mum's medical position.

My mother has been a resident at Elburton Heights care home since October 2017 and during that time I have seen a marked improvement in her health and general well-being. I put this down to good food and care and my family and I feel confident that she is being well looked after. We have had one or
two concerns during the past twelve months, such as the large turnover in staff, some at a fairly senior level. At times it appeared that there were too few staff to provide adequate cover and I raised this at the time with a senior member of staff, who assured me that there was no cause for concern. There was also a failure in the hot water/heating system, which seemed to take an inordinate length of time to repair, however, temporary measures were introduced to alleviate the problem and everything is now back to normal. In summary, we believe that the care provided by the home is of a good standard and we would recommend it to anyone seeking similar care.

With regard to your comments regarding the change of Home Manager in the home, I am pleased to say that the Home Manager who had been at the home for a number of years moved to a larger home of ours, also in Plymouth, and continued to oversee the home and her staff team until the new, experienced, Home Manager arrived at the home and still continues to support with all aspects of a hand over. I am sure that upon meeting the new manager, you will be assured that the home is in safe hands and will continue to deliver the excellent care it is known for.
With regard to the change of hot water boiler, the need to fit a new boiler was identified when we took on the home 2 years ago. Plans were put in place to decommission, carry out works and replace the old boiler for the new in the smallest window of time we could possibly manage. This did take time to ensure that the best contractors, equipment and checks were in place to complete the job. Plans were also made to ensure that the impact on the residents was also minimal. Thankfully, it's all now completed and everything is working well and hot water is in abundance.

During my husband's stay in Elburton Heights, he was treated with the utmost care. The staff generally were extremely caring and also gave me great support at a time when I needed it most. I couldn't have been more grateful to them. The redecoration of the home (which is needed) is ongoing and when
it's complete I feel it will be of quite a high standard.

You are correct, the homes upgrade of accommodation continues! We do our best to continue with the renovations around the residents and their activities plus, this home is very popular and rooms have to be redecorated as and when they become available. The previous operators had rather neglected this aspect of the home, so we are doing our best to catch-up with everything. As I write this, two lounges, one dining room and one very long corridor are being painted and redecorated. Of course the garden is 'second to none', nowhere else is there a putting green which was put in place specifically for a resident who loves his golf! Kind regards.

The care my mother received whilst in the care of everyone at Elburton Heights was 5 star in every way. The last few months of her life was very comfortable and we were all treated with the utmost respect. We couldn't recommend the home or staff enough. When my mother passed away in the early hours
of 18th April, they were really supportive.

Everyone at Elburton Heights is extremely helpful, kind and caring. They work hard to provide good care for all their residents. The quality of the food is good but is often cold by the time it reaches my father. This is more of a problem of the food getting cool from the kitchen to the serving area.

We relocated my mother to Devon to be near family due to ill health with the view of getting her into a home. Fate meant she was hospitalised soon after and so we needed to find a suitable home quickly. Having viewed 9 other homes (and assessing CQC reports) we visited Elburton Heights. Immediately
on entering, we had 'the right feeling'. The atmosphere, the layout, the nice music, the lovely garden and above all the extremely welcoming staff made our mind up on the spot. Mum has been so happy here and after only a few weeks is calling it home. We have had some battles with the NHS following other admissions to hospital (as she is still being assessed for local government funding) but the home has been so supportive and helpful at what is a stressful time.


The staff try to be as helpful as they can, always friendly and respectful. We feel we can leave Mum and not worry about her care. As always, if you notice something health wise with your relative it is worth pointing it out. My mum is of the generation where she doesn't want to be a bother. The food is plentiful and of a good standard. My mum's only criticism is she doesn't like the tea, not great flavour - too milky and cold - but hey, if that's all we've got to say on a negative front then that's pretty top marks I'd say. Instantly we feel part of the Elburton Heights family and it is more than we could have wished for.

My mother has been very poorly with dementia for about 4-5 years. In this time we tried to keep her in her own home, which we managed with great difficulty until 12 months ago. Since April this year, my mother has been moved 6 times, each time being very unsettling for not only her but also for us.
Last week we moved her into Elburton Heights nursing home and we feel that a big weight has been lifted off our shoulders. From the minute we walked through the door my partner and I looked at each other and knew it was the right place for mum to move to. It had a very calming atmosphere and the residents look very happy and well looked after. All the staff we have met are very kind to the residents and family and nothing is too much trouble. I know my mother is very poorly and her condition will only get worse, but I know they are making her as comfortable as possible. There is always something going on to keep the residents happy, music, films, coffee mornings each week. We are so grateful.

On my initial visit/enquiry staff were very helpful and informative when showing me the facilities. They were able to accommodate my mother at short notice and provided an environment where she was able to make good progress in recovering from a stroke. My wife has been in this care home for around twelve years and she has been well looked after all this time. She takes part in some of the activities and has been out on minibus trips. I pay her a visit almost every afternoon and am always made most welcome and looked after by staff and management.
I have Sunday lunch with my wife every Sunday, the food is excellent.

The staff are very friendly and do all they can to help and make Mum comfortable. They treat Mum with respect and dignity. The bedrooms could do with a makeover. The garden is lovely. Mum enjoys that in the summer.

The standards of care are our first priority and to hear that you consider care is delivered in a caring and dignified way is greatly reassuring. I can also assure you that since Harbour Healthcare has taken over the home as providers of care, a programme of redecoration has been put in place and is well and truly underway. As you can appreciate, it is not always easy to decorate bedrooms when they are occupied and with this being such a popular home there is not always the opportunity to move residents to empty rooms while bedrooms are being 'made over'. But, we will get round to all rooms and decorate, with new flooring and furniture as well, if necessary, but the process is not always as quick as it might be, so apologies for that. Kind regards

My aunt is well cared for. She is always clean with clean clothes. Management is easy to approach if there is a problem. Coffee mornings on a Tuesday for residents and relatives are good for meeting other families. There is always some form of entertainment for residents. My main issue is staff have
to spend so much time filling in paperwork which means less time spent with the residents.

The feedback you have given regarding paperwork is an interesting one, as the care team would love to be with their residents 100% of their working day but it is a fact that excellent care is backed up with excellent record keeping. Our care teams are well trained and understand there is a need to keep up to date and detailed notes to support excellent person-centred care and those notes are invaluable for the healthcare needs of our residents. Interestingly, the inspection of all supporting paperwork is very much a major part of the detailed inspection by CQC, the regulator of care homes and, therfore, it has to be in place. That subject aside, great efforts are made in the home to ensure that residents are comfortable and happy and it will please both the activity team and care teams that their hard work has been noticed.
