Hill House Nursing home has been providing excellent care and supporting residents since it opened in 1965. Most of the bedrooms are en-suite and located in a bright purpose built extension. Part of the home dates from the 14th century with exposed beams, inglenook fireplaces and is steeped in character.

Hill House ensures that residents have all their home comforts and receive outstanding care from the highly skilled nursing, caring and professional staff.

The home prides itself on its professional and holistic service. There is a full range of social activities and an entertainment programme led by an activity coordinator who devises a wide range of activities to meet resident’s abilities and interests. Well being is very important to the home and the home also ensures freshly cooked wholesome food is served at all times.

Very well run nursing home, clean and tidy. Residents looked after well. Staff are very pleasant and helpful with good organisation skills.

My time at Hill House has been very good. The staff have been great and nothing is too much trouble no matter what time of the day it is. They also find time to have a little chat no matter how busy they are. I could not have had better treatment and would recommend Hill House any time.

My husband went into Hill House at the end of November in 2019. The staff treated him with dignity and care. They looked after him extremely well. They truly cared for him as a person with personality and genuinely did everything for him. He passed away in August this year.

In February 2018, my mum was seriously ill, and we were told she needed end of life care. Mum had worked at Hill House for 10-years, and for us, as a family, there was no debate. Thankfully there was a room for her, and so there it began.
We began to prepare for the worst, but with all of their care,
she began to improve and went from strength to strength. I discussed her health care plan and the struggles we’d had in the past, (I’d lost my mum long before the physical illness) and the sisters put a new plan in place; slowly the mum I’d lost was making a comeback!
Fast forward two years, dedication in personal care, compassion, patience, individual needs, excellent meal services, laundry and love!
All the staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating and nothing is too much trouble.
I truly believe had she not been able to live at Hill House we may not have had her with us now.
I would highly recommend to anyone who wants their loved ones in that special homely place.

My father was a resident at Hill House Nursing Home for several months while under the palliative care team, coordinated through a local hospice. We came to choose Hill House because of its outstanding reputation as one of the best in our area. I have to say that this advice was wrong..........I believe
it is the best.
My wife is a clinical nurse manager and has an extensive background in caring for the elderly. On a professional level, she was highly impressed.
From mine and more importantly my dad's perspective, Hill House was a safe, happy and caring environment that did everything practical to make my dad's end of life care as good as was possible. His medical condition was especially complicated, but Hill House met his every need. The location, parking, room and food were first class. Most importantly, the nursing care and the work of the nursing assistants was of the very highest order.
On behalf of my dad and all our family thank you Hill House Nursing Home.

Judgement from non-care-professional with positive intention! spent over 60 minutes!
Plus points: committed personnel/staff, doing the best they can for the residents and activities including animals
(I cannot judge the professional skills of the staff)
Minus point: Too old, too out of time, not
efficient housing/building with a labyrinth of corridors and stairs with a too low ceiling.
Minus point: carpets on the floor are outdated (absolute NO-GO) since 1900 in nursing-homes. Resulting in urine-smell in corridors, staff cannot help it nor prevent it.
Minus point: inadequate, uncomfortable, inefficient seats/beds. Personnel should be able to easily reposition residents in an easy and not too physical way. Best would be when personnel should only put residents in a clean seat/bed. Further only move seat-bed from room to social room. Seat-bed could maybe be equipped with more personal entertainment facilities. (need will differ per person) so personnel could spend more time with residents.
In total, I appreciate the intention of Hill House and admire the committed work-attitude of the personnel, but this nursing home should be replaced by a modern house with facilities like wide corridors, without stinky carpet (which personnel simply cannot keep clean) and efficient roomy rooms and social facilities, in general, to ease the work of the personnel to provide more work pleasure and more time to be spent with the residents, which is their core-task.
This will reduce work stress which will benefit all involved: the residents, the personnel and the management, likely reduce workers-illness etc.

Thank you for your review. I understand you are a friend that visits from Holland twice a year and I am aware that the module there is very different from the English home to home approach. We have purchased the business this May and are working our way through a refurbishment of the home, however, the resident you visit lives in the grade 2 part of the building. There are restrictions on what can be done and we have to make sure we are careful and do it right, involving the residents with the decision making.
We have a physiotherapist that supports the residents with the best moving and handling techniques and the resident has always been happy to be supported the way she is at present, we tailor the care to the person and their wishes, to ensure the individual remains independent for as long as possible.

Have got stronger - treated with care and respect, and any request sorted (except for sorting out the TV connection to the TV, which became frustrating). Food request no bother. Noticed how caring and patient all staff are to other patients who were not as able-bodied or able to verbalise their needs.
But feel, bodily inspections (particularly feet) should be done at least once a month for these types of patient - especially if they can't ask for it themselves.

Came here with mixed thoughts after coming from the hospital now received with warmth and dignity. Over the period of being here, my fears gave way to a sense of peace and being safe. This has come by through the wonderful staff with their care, warmth and dedication. I have been treated as a person,

My mother was a resident at Hill House for two years, prior to her passing away. She received excellent care during that time and was always treated with courtesy and respect by all staff. Her visiting family were warmly welcomed and kept fully updated on her medical condition. The entertainment programme
is run by devoted staff and is both stimulating and enjoyable. Her room was well equipped, had plenty of storage and was always clean. Laundry was carried out efficiently. Drinks, biscuits and cake were delivered with a cheerful smile and a chat. Overall, I highly recommend Hill House and give it the highest ratings.

Hill House staff were far and above my expectation from all the care and kindness to my husband and myself, to his meals and most impressive, his clothing was ironed and hung up was lovely.

I have ticked all the boxes below relating to all areas of this nursing home as excellent.
I need not add anything more. The nurses and staff are above exemplary and I feel safe in the knowledge that my beloved mother is receiving the very best care that she could get. The overall atmosphere is joyous.
The activities care staff are wonderful. The ladies serving tea and refreshment I now consider my friends. I would recommend this nursing home without a doubt.

My husband was welcomed to Hill House in August 2016. Originally for 1 month trial to see how he would accept the home.
First impression on entering was the cleanliness in reception, 2nd was room was equipped with all facilities needed. As my husband is a double amputee I was finding it hard with
lifting him and personal issues. After 1 month we both realized this was a realistic option. The carers work as a team and cannot be praised enough for all the hard work they do. Residents are treated with respect and dignity they deserve. After 2 1/2 years, they are all like friends. We also must mention the entertainments manager who tries to involve everyone to attend her daily sessions of entertainment, treating everyone as special, with quizzes, tribute artists she is so special and loved by everyone, including us. Not forgetting her assistant who does alternate day and does a great job.
Finally a big thank you to Nurses and Staff who provide exceptional care.

I and my Wife were welcomed into Hill House in November 2017. My Wife was evicted from another home in November because the owners had decided to end nursing care. I discovered, immediately, that Hill House is an exception 'care and nursing' home creating an environment in which my Wife has thrived
and is much more active and involved. The activities provided are really excellent thanks to the activities carers.

My mother stayed in Hill House for two weeks respite care after the death of her husband. From the moment she arrived, she received wonderful care and attention. All the staff were friendly, kind and compassionate and nothing was too much trouble for them.
They all made her feel very welcome, especially
the activities coordinator, who even gave my mother a manicure, which really cheered her up! The whole family are very grateful to all the staff for looking after our mother so well.
