Each member of the professional team at St James' is on hand to support residents and their loved ones in any way they need. The care team at the home have a real focus on personalised care. A popular area is the delightful landscaped garden and patio, which is the perfect spot to spend time with friends and family and is happily looked after by some residents. I have been very comforted by the care and kindness which St James' staff showed to my father in his last days. Although he was only with you a short while the staff were quick to understand him and to reassure him. Many thanks to all.

My mother has received excellent care since she moved to St James Park in February 2017. She's nearly blind, very deaf, immobile and quite difficult at times, but the care team are always extremely patient and very kind to her. The home provides a daily schedule of interesting and varied activities,
but because of my mother's physical weaknesses, there are very few activities that she can participate in. However she is always given the opportunity to join in if she wants to.


This month, January 2019, my mother has been very poorly, but thanks to round the clock monitoring and dedicated care from all the wonderful team, she is now very much better. My thanks to everyone.

My father has been here since September 2018. The staff and management went out of their way to make him feel welcome and to ensure he settled in. The standard of care he has received has been exceptional and I feel confident and comfortable leaving him in their care. He is always clean and well dressed
and he tells me how lovely the carers are and how kind and gentle they are. Every one of the staff and management smile when they see you and speak, making visitors feel welcome and the home seems very well managed.


The standard of food is very good, and my father is very pleased with the selection and choice available. Having eaten there myself I can confirm how fresh, tasty and well presented the food is.


There is a wide range of activities offered to the residents which my father enjoys joining in. The only way I could think that the home could improve would be the provision of a minibus which would enable residents to be offered a wider range of activities outside the home.

At present we can access a wheelchair taxi service but are limited as it can only take 1 Resident at a time.

I cannot praise highly enough St James' Park Care Home. The consideration and care given to my aunt in her final year gave my husband and me much reassurance and comfort, knowing that she was in the best possible place to suit her needs. That we could visit whenever we wanted was very important to us.
The staff were so supportive and helpful, and the personal relationship that developed between us all was a lovely consequence.
The only negative point was the recent change to the assistance call button for residents which didn't seem really necessary. There were many residents (including my aunt) who couldn't use or wear the new, uncomfortable velcro wristbands and the constant beeping in the lounge was very unpleasant. That minor point aside, I'd have no hesitation in recommending St James to anyone. Thank you so much.

Thank you for your positive comments about the care and support that you and your aunt received at St James Park. The call bell system did have to be replaced as the old system was no longer fit for purpose. There were teething issues with the new system which have been addressed following feedback from Residents, relatives and staff. Neck pendants are now available for all Residents instead of the wrist bands. All clinical staff continue to carry pagers as before but the new ones vibrate to alert them to a call, rather than the previous pagers which beeped constantly often disturbing other residents when staff were delivering their care. There are also additional wall mounted stations in the corridors and the lounge to alert staff that a Resident is calling for assistance, however, following the feedback, the one in the lounge area has been muted.

My Mother is 97 and has been a resident for 2 years. She is settled but seldom leaves her room and the familiarity of the staff and reliability of routines are especially important to her, so it's of concern that since HC1 took over 10 months ago there's been a noticeable increase in turnover of staff.
Two excellent nurses left this summer, replaced by only one. That nurse left last week. Valuable care staff have also left. Most alarming of all is that the manager has now resigned. She is a woman of integrity, dedicated to her job, has worked hard to support her staff and retain standards of care. She'll be a very significant loss to the home. A representative from HC1 told me a year ago that staff ratios would remain the same. I now question this assertion.


I visit Mum most days and it has become obvious to me that the staff, though still working hard to care for residents efficiently and kindly are less settled and under more pressure. I am worried about the consequences of all this on the home and on my mum's care. HC1, what's going on?

As an organisation, we consistently review our staffing policies and staffing levels in relation to our resident's needs and dependency to ensure a high standard is maintained. We continually recruit for qualified nursing staff and also provide a nursing assistance programme to support and develop the skills of our existing colleagues to provide continuity to our residents. Although the skill mix has changed at the home, the staffing ratio remains the same and in the circumstances where we have to use agency staff, we do our best to ensure that we use regular agency staff who know the home and residents which helps with continuity of care.

We have been extremely pleased with St James' Park Care Home over the past 2 years. The level of care has been absolutely first class and all the staff are kind. Thoughtful, attentive and caring. On our twice-weekly visits, we always found the home clean and secure and the staff very welcoming. We

Very friendly and helpful staff in a clean and tidy environment. They have helped my mother pick herself up after the loss of my father and a subsequent fall. Mum now is looking forward to an active life when she is fully recovered and able to go back home.

The care home has happy residents, helpful and cheerful staff who are happy to give their time and help to residents and visitors alike. A very nice greeting on arrival and a cheery goodbye is also what you get. The staff are very aware of their clients' needs and I have been told the food is good too.
Both times I have visited I have been offered refreshments. Keep it up.

My uncle was only in St James for a week and a half before he sadly passed away. We were happy to get him out of hospital and into a quiet room. The staff are all really caring and nothing is too much trouble for them. One of the nurses was with my uncle when he passed and held his hand which is very
comforting to know. I would recommend this care home as they were very attentive and extremely helpful in what was a very difficult time for our family.

My mother passed away at St James' on Dec 4th, 2017. She had been a resident there for 2 1/2 years prior to that. During that time, I could not have wished for a more caring, compassionate and loving environment. Relatives are welcomed and consulted on every aspect of care. The nursing standards and
specialist knowledge are excellent. During her final weeks, the support we all received was much appreciated and I cannot praise the wonderful staff highly enough.

My mother has now been in St James Care Home for almost two years now and unfortunately to her condition is unable to walk and care for herself. It has been an extremely good choice of home as we (as a family) are completely satisfied with the help and care my mother receives from all the staff. I have
got to know nearly all the staff and have found them all to be competent, caring and professional in their duties. I know at times it can be a very difficult job, but the staff (management and the team) do their up-most to care for my mother with kindness and sincerity. The home is well run, clean and tidy. The rooms are nicely decorated with ample facilities in each. We have brought in some of mums belongings and the Care Home have no objections to us doing this. Thank you all at St James.

My father was in St James' for two and a half years. During this time as his daughter I was able to visit at any time to suit, was always made very welcome and found my father's various needs were met.
St James' is a friendly, relaxed yet professional set up.
The end of life care was caring, respectful

My father spent his last two weeks at St James'. The family were very grateful that he could be moved out of a busy, noisy hospital ward.
He had everything he needed and was looked after with care and attention.
All the staff were well informed and helpful. It was a relief and really helped us get
through a very difficult time.
I would recommend St James' to anyone.

My husband was treated very well even during his difficult phases. All of the staff were kind and helpful and cared as much for me as for him. The many visitors were welcomed. It was a shame that he was not in a condition to make use of all the facilities offered.

My mother's care at St James' was less than 3 weeks at best but it was caring and thoughtful.
My mother wasn't settled in that time and could be demanding in her anxiety.
There seemed to be a lot of effort to integrate her into the daily routines and activities - unsuccessful overall.
The family
I.e me, my father and brother, have all been treated with great respect and compassion.

At a difficult period in mum's long life, she needed to be looked after. I was so relieved that she could spend her final time at St James. All staff members showed real affection for her and every effort was made to make her stay here as worry-free and secure as possible any medical needs were promptly
and efficiently treated.
Her end of life care has been exemplary.
The peace of mind it has given her family is immense.

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“Kindness means sharing, caring, and treating people the same.”


As a Registered Nurse, Mihaela has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Mihaela closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Mihaela remarked:


“Being a manager is an incredible, eye-opening experience that will teach you so many things. My secret recipe is love. I love my Residents and my Colleagues. Everyone has good qualities that, if appreciated, will grow. I like taking the time to discover these daily.”


Mihaela describes her proudest achievement was when she got her nurse registration. She loves being a nurse, looking after people and giving them comfort.


Outside of work Mihaela enjoys travelling and learning about new cultures. She also spends a lot of time with her family, including her son.
