My mother has been in Acorn Lodge for almost a year and during that time we have been very pleased with the choice of Oakdene for my Mother. As well as the excellent care and cosy environment, we have been impressed with the overall improvement in my mother's mental and physical wellbeing. A comfortable
home I would highly recommend.

I am perfectly satisfied that my wife is cared for in the best possible way given the limitations of her illness.
Staff are caring, compassionate and considerate and keep me aware of any health concerns.

My mother has been in Acorn Lodge since February this year and is like a new person. The care she has is excellent, with caring and happy carers around her.
Nothing is too much trouble and Mum always looks clean and well dressed. The food is good and there is plenty of it, with time taken to feed the
people unable to feed themselves, but its the little extra which makes the difference.
Whilst it's been hot, there has been ice cream in the afternoon and homemade cakes every afternoon.
We are always made very welcome and it's absolutely wonderful for me as Mum's previous carer to see her so happy and stimulated. Thank you to all the staff of Acorn for giving Mum some quality of life back.

My father was happy at Oakdene. All the staff were very considerate, professional and caring.
My father had vascular dementia and his food preferences were always taken into consideration. His right to choose was upheld throughout his stay.

As soon as my wife and I walked into Oakdene, we felt it was the right place for my mother. The kindness and understanding of the staff, the bright, clean rooms, and the active care of the residents we saw made the choice an easy one. From the day my mother arrived into a room filled with her favourite
pictures and orchids, she relaxed. The staff always made time to tell us what Mum had been doing and how she was. They made huge efforts to get her into the garden, which she loved. They gave her food she enjoyed, even when, towards the end, her preferences were a little unusual. At all times we felt her mental well-being, as well as her physical comfort, mattered to everyone. Staff chatted to her, knowing stories about her life that we hadn't told them. If someone you love needs care, we can't recommend Oakdene highly enough. Whilst not cheap, it is certainly not the most expensive around, and the homely environment and standard of genuine care given by the staff here is beyond price.

My mother moved to Oakdene in November 2018, it was a huge thing for her and my father who had been married 64 years. From our first meeting with staff, through her traumatic move to her new home until her end of life care, all the staff we met were kind, caring and thoughtful. I was very happy to leave
my mum in the care of the staff who looked after her so well.

The whole family were welcome to visit at any time and we always found the home to be spotlessly clean, and food served was of an excellent standard. I would not hesitate to recommend if a family member could no longer stay in their own home.

The care my mother is shown on a regular basis is exceptional. I can visit anytime and she is always safe, well cared for and enjoying the company of other residents. Meals are well balanced and the facilities are clean.

Our first hand experience of Oakdene was simply outstanding from the moment we contacted them about my mum, who had vascular dementia. All the staff were kind, considerate and caring. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Oakdene is always spotless and clean and smells as fresh as a daisy, unlike many
of the other care homes we viewed. It really does not feel like a care home facility at all, much more like a friendly hotel!
With lots of little human touches, every guest is treated with respect and dignity. In a sea of mediocrity, Oakdene truly is a shining light that makes the process and experience for both residents and their families a caring and positive one.

My mother was discharged from hospital into the care of Oakdene Nursing & Residential Care Home and in a very short space of time her condition improved markedly. This is due in large part to the wonderful and genuine care she has received from all of the staff in the care home.
She remains very settled
and content in this very caring environment.

Oakdene Nursing & Care Home is a good care home with very caring staff.
They do offer lots of activities and I especially like the fact they bring animals into the home as they relieve stress.
I am not so impressed by the large amount of cost increases seen this year with no extra services.

My mother has been resident for nearly two years, all the staff I have met have treated my mother with respect and care.
All the staff know the residents well and it is akin to a mini-community - with varied activities which residents are encouraged to participate in.
My only concern is the two price
rises in the last 2 years equating to over 20%.

The staff are what makes this care home so good.
They are very considerate and show great sensitivity to the residents and their relatives.
The best compliment that I can pay them is that when I drive away I am confident that mum is comfortable and very well looked after.

Excellent staff and local management, but dealing with top management over fees etc is difficult.
Home has improved over the last few months with more activity staff and trips.
On the whole, family happy there.

My mother has been a resident for approximately 5 years. The nursing and care staff are excellent and caring. The domestic staff keep everything very clean.
Lack of activities is a big problem. Since the lady who ran activities retired in June, there has been little stimulation for the residents. Since
the new owners have taken over, the fees have increased twice, substantially with no evidence of change in conditions for the residents or staff.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.323)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.323) out of 10 for Oakdene Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.471 for Oakdene Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.471

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.852 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oakdene Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.2 = 0.352

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
