Southbourne Beach is located a short walk from the sea front and its excellent beaches, perfect for a refreshing walk or for some fresh sea air. The home attracts residents and their families from all over the wider Dorset area, including Christchurch, Ringwood and the New Forest. The home offers high quality care including both residential and dementia care as well as shorter respite stays. The care home has 104 beds over three floors.

The location of this home is a short drive to Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Bournemouth airport and easy reach of both the Saxon and Sovereign shopping centres. Close to Bournemouth centre, with its eclectic mix of culture and entertainment, road and rail links are excellent for visiting family and friends.

The care home offers a wide range of accommodation options and beautiful, wheelchair-friendly landscaped gardens designed for a gentle stroll or relaxing walk. It is pet friendly, so your four-legged friends can also move in and also offers a shared care experience with companion suites, designed for couples, siblings or friends seeking a caring and supportive environment together.

It's always a pleasure to visit my father and his dog as the atmosphere is welcoming and he has made some great friends at Sunrise, residents and staff. They are also good fun and a pleasure to sit with or go out walking with. The garden is beautiful and is well cared for like the accommodation and
residents. Trips out are so important to the residents and they really enjoy them. Keep up the good standards.

There are lots of things I love about Sunrise of Southbourne.
The staff they really are carers. Those who respectfully help with personal care, while fully respecting our dignity, those who work behind the scenes, my clothes come back perfectly laundered. The food is very palatable, my room is always
lovely and clean, my medication needs are fully supported.
The activities: I look forward to these and enjoy them.
I really enjoy the outings and quizzes, the gentleman who helps is a lovely, caring man with a great sense of humour.
Comfort, I love my nice quiet room and sleep really well at night.

I have had to use a wheelchair since my arrival here but due to the help of carers and staff who generally are very pleasant and helpful, I'm somehow managing to get around. The arrangements made to entertain are generally very good the entertainment coming in on various days, piano, singers and various
groups are very good. It is a very pleasant home to be in the furniture is excellent and colour every where. Generally, care is very good but sometimes certain things are overlooked or take a long time to get a result.

Granny uses memory café and respite facilities this home provides. It's an incredibly friendly, accommodating home. On first visit, it looks like a hotel but very quickly people know your name and involve you in conversations, activities, invites to lunch etc. The staff are very friendly, very helpful
and somehow always smiling. All the residents I have seen/spoken to have a very fulfilled and happy life. Always telling me how great it is.

My husband was suffering terminal cancer and I chose Sunrise because he needed a high level of care in pleasant surroundings. Although he would naturally have preferred to be at home, he was too ill to do so.
Staff are extremely kind and caring and obviously some were very fond of him. They were also
very supportive to me. More night staff would be an improvement as there were very few.

My mother has received excellent care. During her stay her dementia deteriorated considerably- Sunrise made the transition to Reminiscence seamlessly and made it all so much easier for us. It is friendly, clean, well organised and supportive.

At the time of writing the survey my husband has only been at Sunrise of Southbourne for 3 weeks and therefore my comments are only based on short time in respite care. When visiting I find the home is very welcoming with excellent helpful reception staff who make everyone feel at ease and everyone
you meet has a smile and seems to be happy. The carers seem to know everyone and always stop to speak to them. It is very encouraging that there are many activities available to people of varying abilities and bistro good for meeting others. Overall I would say a very well run home.

A close relative was a resident here. My experience was that the home was excellently run. The staff extremely pleasant and efficient and the environment couldn't be better. The food was good.

The reception received on entering is first class, very welcoming and cheerful. Any questions are answered simply and with knowledge. I'm so impressed how quickly all the concierge staff recognise me and call me by name and have a few friendly words with me as I sign in. From the care point of view,
I find my friend extremely well looked after. Again they know her name and my name as well. Because she is so forgetful, they seem to channel her to where she should be without making it obvious. My friend is very relaxed with the care staff because of their understanding and good humour.

I am a vegetarian and the food provides for my needs very well, except I would like quorn steaks sometimes (I think I am already getting it minced). I love the fact that a range of salads is always available. I love all the activities and outings, and I feel very secure here, the staff, without exception,
are wonderful.

My wife and I are residents of 2 years standing and are surprised how good it is in this care home. The care provided the food, the laundry, the cleanliness are all excellent. We cannot praise the staff too much. Indeed we are amazed how they keep it up on a long term basis. Before we moved here, we
visited other care homes and this one (Sunrise) impressed us the most and we have not been disappointed. In short, they richly deserve the outstanding rating they received from the government inspections.

I have worked in the care sector for over 12 years now, joining Southbourne Beach in 2023. My journey in care began as a care assistant, this was a role I truly loved and quickly realised that the care sector was where I was meant to be. My passion for delivering high-quality care developed from my personal experiences of caring for family members and continues to grow, surrounded by compassionate and selfless colleagues. I have been fortunate enough to achieve further training and qualifications, allowing me to progress into managerial positions.


I have lived in the Dorset area for most of my life and I love being part of my local community with our residents and staff. I am incredibly proud to lead a special team at Southbourne Beach, where the needs of our residents are always the number one priority. Outside of my work, I enjoy regular exercise, travelling, sports and always seeking new experiences.

For 3 years I worked in domiciliary optical care travelling around care homes on the south coast. This taught me a better understanding in dementia and vulnerable people. I joined the Concierge team in 2013 and worked my way up to lead concierge.


I love my job, the staff and all the characters we here (including the pets). I now look after a team of 7 concierges at Southbourne. Never a dull moment, we are the eyes, ears and heart of the community. The relationships I build with the residents and families are so special and I value listening and trying to solve any request or concerns they may have.
