Chalgrove Care and Nursing Home in Poole provides affordable high-quality residential, nursing, dementia, respite, end-of-life and palliative care for older people.

CQC has given Chalgrove a rating of ‘good’ right across the board (January 2018).

There are several lounges and dining areas throughout the home, plus a large, sunny conservatory overlooking the garden. The smaller first-floor lounge is a good spot for quieter activities and reminiscing, or for when family and friends come to visit.

Chalgrove has a lovely large secure lawned garden and enclosed paved courtyards, with plenty of room to sit out on sunny days.

Residents and visitors are welcome to use the free Chalgrove Wi-Fi.

The bedrooms at Chalgrove are in two wings: Edwardian, where nursing care is provided, and Tudor, the residential building.

Across the two wings, there are 57 bedrooms, three of which can accommodate couples. All bedrooms have an en-suite or washbasin in the room.

Many of the bedrooms look out onto the garden, and lots of the ground-floor bedrooms have direct garden access.

Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own photos and furniture. Personal possessions help residents feel at home, and provide extra stimulation and time for reminiscence.

Chalgrove Care and Nursing Home was home to my mother for two years. In this time she was looked after extremely well with dignity and friendliness and caring staff who met all her daily needs to a high standard. We, the family, were also treated with a smile and a chat and offered drinks on every visit
from all staff. My mother was bedridden and had dementia but enjoyed the interaction with all the staff who we can not praise and thank for their wonderful care until her death on 22/01/2023.

Overall, I found the staff to be friendly and efficient. The main meals were, in my opinion, too small. Breakfast was sometimes a bit cold. The knives I found to be almost blunt and I struggled to cut through toast and bacon.

A big thank you to all the staff in Edwardian House who looked after our 104-year-old mum with such kindness in her final weeks, it was much appreciated and a relief for those of us who live far afield to know she was in safe hands. Can we say an especial thanks to a young male events organiser for
being so obliging, running up and down stairs with the phone and a very special thanks to the head nurse for being kind and diplomatic, negotiating family politics and issues, we felt listened to and it meant a lot.
I sent an email to the manager which stated we would like to put on record our thanks for everything you and your staff did for Mum, she was very happy with her care and the attentiveness of your staff. On the various visits and many phone calls we made to enquire on Mum’s welfare, we found the staff to be extremely helpful, caring, knowledgeable about Mum’s condition. We left some sweets, biscuits and a thank you card with our honest opinions. Happy to recommend you.

I am very impressed with how clean and tidy the home is and it does not smell at all. My mum's room is clean and tidy and mum is always clean with clean bedding and she is happy there. The staff are kind and helpful and they feel like an extended family. Very happy.

When Mum first arrived she was very unhappy and anxious. She is now very settled and happy. Staff are lovely and caring and always happy to let you know how she is.

Pleased with the care of nursing, the home is kept nice and clean. Food is good and is always with each person in mind, for their needs. The staff are friendly and show kindness towards everyone. I have no concerns for my mother's wellbeing and am happy for her to remain here.

The staff are very friendly and caring. The nurses pay a lot of attention to what my Grandma needs, this is often a tea and cake trolley, and the care home is secure and has a friendly atmosphere.

My mother has been a resident for 5 years and 8 months. There have been huge improvements since new management came in around March time. Pre-COVID there could have been outings arranged when Mother was more able-bodied. Mother is very settled and has built relationships with some staff, kitchen staff
are happy to prepare meals based upon treats that I supply from time to time.

External outings for people living at Chalgrove is on my agenda. COVID has certainly hindered this. Our Activities Team have been, and continue to work hard to ensure people living at Chalgrove are not socially isolated and that they engage in activities that they enjoy. Also importantly, that they also have access to family and friends via 'garden visits', Skype and by phone.

I found Chalgrove to be excellent - a very happy atmosphere and happy staff. When visiting at any time during the day I always found my relative to be extremely well cared for, bodily scrupulously clean, as was her room and bedding. I could not recommend Chalgrove Home enough everything was first-class.
In fact, if ever it was necessary for me to enter such an establishment this is the only place I would be happy with.

Mum has been in Chalgrove now for nearly eighteen months. She has dementia, cannot walk and needs help feeding. I have nothing but praise for the staff at Chalgrove. My mum is treated with dignity and respect and she is shown such kindness by everyone. She enjoys the food and entertainment. There are
always plenty of activities, crafts and various musical entertainers. Mum’s behaviour can be challenging at times but she is always shown such care and compassion. I have no hesitation in recommending Chalgrove.

I have found the staff to be very professional and very friendly. They have been brilliant with my stepmother. The care home itself is very homely and clean which has helped with my stepmother settling in as well as he has. Also, the security to the home is excellent.

My mum entered Chalgrove in December 2012 from hospital. She had been diagnosed with vascular dementia and couldn't get out of bed. I thought at the time she was close to death and unlikely to walk again. A few weeks later I was surprised to find her sitting in the communal lounge after recovering
in her room. Mum lived another seven years and was still able to walk, talk, smile, laugh and sing up until the final weeks of her life. This was due to the wonderful care she received at Chalgrove from the kind staff who loved her like she was a member of their own family. Many of the staff cared for Mum for the full seven years, so staff turnover was relatively low.
I would choose the excellent care at Chalgrove over more expensive homes every time. I want to thank the staff from the bottom of heart for giving me peace of mind that Mum was in the best place possible during her final years.

My wife has been a residnet for the last 6 months. She suffers from vascular dementia but has been treated with care and understadning by the staff of carers during the whole of that time. My wife is incontinent from time to time but her condition is treated cheerfully by staff at all incidents.

Mum came to Chalgrove due to safeguarding concerns raised by neighbours of her home environment. Mum has taken a while to settle in due to memory issues but the staff have been wonderful in making sure mum felt comfortable and welcome. She has gained weight, us always clean and tidy and warm and her
wishes are always respected. She has made some close connections with carers and seems very content here.
My only recommendation would be for a bit more activities.
