Castleford House nursing home is an attractive Victorian building, set in an idyllic location, near Chepstow. The interior boasts large rooms, high ceilings, massive fireplaces, all lovingly and sympathetically refurbished.

Castleford House offers stylish and comfortable accommodation for residents. There's a mixture of single and double rooms and the majority are ensuite, with a terrace or views onto gardens. Inside the house, residents enjoy bright and airy lounges as well as a smaller sitting room/library for quiet reading.

A rich schedule of organised activities gives residents the opportunity to participate in favourite pastimes, learn new skills, venture outdoors and keep their minds and bodies fit and alert.

There is a passenger lift and all areas are accessible for wheel-chairs. The gardens are available to residents and visitors at all times and offer views over the Wye Valley.

Handing care over of a loved one is the most heart-wrenching thing. My family have had to do this twice, both with my dad and then my mum. Both of them are at Castleford receiving the most wonderful care that we could wish for. The care, support and commitment of the staff and management are second
to none and continues to amaze us with the lengths they go to ensure the best quality of life possible for the residents. You only have to look at the nominations and awards won of late to realise the high standards Castleford offers. The staff at Castleford are now like our extended family, and we will be forever grateful for everything they do not just for my mum and dad, but also for my family. There is always an array of activities provided to accommodate all levels of capabilities of the residents, resulting in wonderful smiles and photos for families to treasure.

My mum has been in Castleford for a year with a two-month lapse. I admitted her to another home nearer to me and her own home. Big mistake, the room lovely, the views and countryside wonderful, staff and food terrible. Big learning curve for me. So I was very lucky that Castleford readmitted her where
the care is second to none, the approach to each other as well as all the residents cannot be faulted; it truly is home from home.
There is always something going on for them to be involved in, whether it's trips out or special times indoors.

Relation had a slight tumble, and was immediately informed of the outcome after being checked out. No injury was sustained.
Always kept well informed on health issues etc.
The manager has a brilliant team working with him, keeping the home having a high standard of care.

My father came to Castleford for end of life care for cancer in 2019, and he received wonderful, caring treatment prior to his death. Now my mother, who has advanced vascular dementia, has just moved in, and my family selected Castleford due to the excellent care given to our father. Two and a half
years later, many of the same staff are here and remembered us and Dad. This is the only place we wanted Mum to come as we knew they specialise in dementia, and she would be treated kindly and respectfully. There are lots of activities for the residents and lovely gardens to walk or sit in. It is well run, and I'm impressed that the manager is looking at ways to improve the quality of the resident's life here and the standard of care.

Staff keep everyone up to date with parents' health, well-being and activities. Father has done so many things since he's been at Castleford. He's had the best of times and photos always have his cheeky smile, which means so much to us and him. Thank you so much, everyone.

Fantastic home. Staff are kind and welcoming. Residents are treated with respect and very well looked after. Cleanliness of the home is outstanding.

I was worried about moving my mother into a care home following bad experiences of other care homes with my father and mother-in-law. Castleford House Care Home is completely different and I am delighted that we have found them. The variety of fantastic activities they undertake give such immense pleasure
in the moment that it has transformed my mum's life. Whether it's fake tattoos to satisfy a naughty bucket list yearning, trips to the seaside for fish and chips and an ice cream on a blustery day, or facilitating a theatre trip to see her grandson perform, this team think outside the box. Thank you Castleford House for making my mum's later life be filled with surprising fun rather than repetition and drudgery. You are a very special team.

It is usually a very sad time when the decision has to be made to send a loved one into the care of someone else, however, because of the love and support that Castleford House Care Home offers this desicion is made so much easier. The care offered is like that of an extended family as is the genuine
love shown to the residents. The amazing effort that goes into organising events is second to none - truth be told it is better than what anyone at home could offer. I can honestly say there have been numerous occasions when I have been jealous of both the activities undertaken and the amazing food - such as pizza and cheesecake days! How many times has anyone ever thought - I wish I was there - when referring to a care home? Well done Castleford House Care Home - a 'home' from home!

My nan came to Castleford House Care Home after my grandad passed last June. She has Alzheimer’s and needed one to one care as she can hardly do anything for herself. Before she went to Castleford she was deteriorating very quickly. However, since being at Castleford she has improved and we noticed
a change so quickly. She is very happy and we can all clearly see she loves the atmosphere in the home with all the activities she can watch and friendly staff.
I have only visited once as I live three hours away but this one visit was enough to see this was the perfect place for my nan. The staff were so welcoming upon arrival and I noticed how caring, helpful and attentive they are to all their residents. We were able to take my nan into the beautiful garden they have and spend some time together as a family which was so special. As I am not local to Castleford and it’s quite difficult to visit, I love the fact that they are regularly posting on their Facebook page with photos of the residents.

This care home is exactly as the title says. A home from home which provides so much genuine love, care and attention to all residents and the family of the residents.
My dad is looked after like a dad, a brother, a grandad and is so happy and content which is all we ever want. He has trips out, sing
songs, great activities and just time and love from all the staff, not just the carers. Also, my mum and us, as a family, are also cared for as we are also going through the toughest journey ever.
Nothing is ever too much trouble, the team always go over and above. We can’t ask for more and always highly recommend this place to everyone who is going through a similar, hardest decision of their lives. But it is the best decision for our loved ones, both Dad suffering and Mum suffering. Dad's very happy and that’s a true reflection of the love and care given by his extended family at Castleford House Care Home.
You are all truly amazing and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

An extremely well-run home where my mum is so well looked after, I never have to worry about her. Management and staff are so friendly, as well as professional, and care for visiting family and friends is also superb. Due to the Covid pandemic, it has not been easy for them, however, they have adhered
to the guidelines in every respect and there is now light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you team.

Castleford House Care Home has an ingenious vibe, the team are innovative, energetic and they care. My most recent communication was sensitive and thought-provoking. However, the content of the conversation, albeit sensitive, was carried out thoughtfully and with empathy.
Since moving to Castleford,
my cousin has received the most appropriate care; he has been nurtured and the care delivery has been exceptional. His response has been one of calm, enjoyment and participation in many activities arranged 'in house'. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and I wish I could move my mum in!

My nanny has been a resident at Castleford House Care Home since December 2021 after she was moved from another care home where we weren't satisfied with the care she was receiving. In the short time she has been there, Nanny is a completely different person, the sparkle is back in her eyes, she is
eating better and she is just doing so well and I firmly believe it is down to the genuine love and care she is receiving. She has been engaged in person-centred activities, most recently going to Barry Island for fish and chips and ice cream despite the terrible weather and she smiled the whole time! I am so happy that Nanny is finally being looked after with the dignity and care she deserves.

My mum joined the Castleford House Care Home family in December 2021 following a traumatic period of hospitalisation and time in a temporary home. From the moment she was collected and bought to Castleford, the manager and his team have done absolutely everything they can to welcome her, meet her needs,
tailor her care and ensure her experience of living is a joyful and enriched one.
The dedication, care and love shown, alongside the respect for her and the communication with us as a family has made her life and ours a very happy one.

Our mum was at Castleford Care Home for a year, prior to her passing on Christmas Eve 2021.
We cannot fault anything in the care she received.
The manager kept us informed at all times about any restrictions etc. during lockdown and we were always phoned and told of any health issues with Mum. Head
of lifestyles and the activities team are fantastic. They always went above and beyond with everything they did to engage the residents. To see the happy, smiling faces of everyone, especially when visiting was restricted was a great comfort.
We will forever be grateful for the outstanding care, kindness and compassion shown to Mum and to us as a family during the last weeks of Mum's life. To know that she wouldn’t be on her own when we couldn’t be there with her was a huge comfort to us all.

I've had a varied and exciting nursing career, working as a cosmetic treatment nurse for the Harley Medical Group and, before that, staff nurse roles in Chepstow Community Hospital and the Manchester Infirmary Clinic. I became a nurse because a friend of mine applied to nursing college. However, I found that I enjoy caring for people, trying to give them the best care/life possible.


I consider myself to be a good listener, able to provide support and I am not judgemental. I enjoy meeting and getting to know people I care for, making them smile or having a laugh. I like knowing that their loved ones are happy with the care they are receiving.


In my opinion, Castleford House achieving overall Outstanding is the home's best achievement. I believe that I played my part in that, helping develop the home into a forward-thinking environment with more modern standards of care. I celebrate success at home with a meal or takeaway, or treat myself to a shopping spree! At Castleford I like to ensure that everyone knows that they are an important part of any success the home has.


I find that going for a run or walk helps with my mental health. I also cope with stress by writing a list of things that I need to do and prioritising what needs to be done first.


Castleford House and Milkwood Care are very supportive and flexible. The company are keen for the team to achieve further qualifications.

I previously worked as a heavy plant operator, a JCB driver, a boarding manager at Lafarge Plasterboard and was then manager at Critchcraft Tiles.


One of my favourite things about my role is seeing people smile after a job is done. I find that this role is different to the other jobs I've had, it's a bit of a challenge for me. I think the ability to learn and fix a variety of tasks, many being quite challenging, is one of my strengths.


I think that one of Castleford House's biggest achievements is getting the overall "Outstanding" CQC rating. When I'm stressed I tend to go clay pigeon shooting or blame the wife (and then buy her some flowers afterwards).


At Castleford there's always help at hand if you need it. Being part of the team allows me to achieve so many things in my role.

I started in social care as a care assistant at Gibraltar Care Village in 2013, moving to Castleford House in 2014. I became a senior carer in 2016 and then swapped onto lifestyles in 2018, initially working as a lifestyles coordinator and senior carer, and then I became a full-time lifestyles coordinator. In 2021, I became "Head of Lifestyles".


I consider myself to be innovative and creative, have excellent communication skills, am able to plan and have great people skills. I am able to think and work outside the box and strive to achieve outstanding standards. I wanted to work as a lifestyles coordinator because I believe that, with my unique skill set, I can make a difference to people's lives and improve the quality of it through meaningful stimulation and person-centred activities.


My best achievements at Castleford House include:
1. Going "viral" on social media
2. The home achieving an overall "Outstanding" CQC rating
3. Winning "Activities Team of the Year 2021" at the Caring UK Awards.
4. Helping people who experience dementia defy limitations


I celebrate success in style! We have ceremonies and display our achievements, including everyone helping and encouraging others to learn from us. When I experience stress, I try to break down my issues into smaller pieces and look to problem solve. I'm not afraid to ask for help and I am aware that I need to prioritise my mental health.


The team at Castleford House really helps me achieve my career and personal goals - there is ongoing support and we are an extended family.
