Dr. Chris Booth first had the idea to build a centre for the elderly in Minchinhampton in the early 80’s. Horsfall House is a Registered Charity and is represented by a group of volunteer Trustees, by the community of Minchinhampton. They are supported by their Patron HRH The Princess Royal and their charitable status allows them to offer affordable care to both social services and privately funded clients.

Today, they boast a 44 bed Nursing Home, as well as a vibrant Day Centre and Home Care provision. Horsfall House is a unique and wonderful centre set in the beautiful Cotswold village of Minchinhampton. They receive residents and family with a warm smile, and open arms.

They deliver outstanding care to those who require general nursing needs and those living with dementia and memory problems, as well as offering Palliative Care, Respite and Short Breaks. Every area of the home has been designed and built with residents and visitors in mind; with the aim of making the transition into care as easy and stress free as possible.

Through the Day Centre and Home Care facility they offer a number of services for those still living at home, including a unique Meals on Wheels service in Minchinhampton.
All of their care is administered by highly trained staff. Furthermore, an ongoing commitment to training and personal development is an important aspect of Horsfall House.

My uncle and aunt moved to Horsfall House recently. I cannot speak highly enough of the care they have received. The staff are all absolutely lovely, kind, gentle and helpful. My aunt has now died there, her end of life care was superb, I was so impressed with the way she was looked after. They have
continued to care for my uncle and have really helped him in his bereavement. Nothing is too much trouble and the wonderful attitude of everyone working at Horsfall is a pleasure to see.

From the moment Mum was welcomed to Horsfall House we have been impressed how the whole team has dedicated themselves to her care and well-being. They appreciate everyone as individuals having their care to meet that person's needs. We see that not for our mum but for everyone else here too. Mum said
it best and all when she said "I'm surrounded by kindness here".

My husband has been cared for superbly for two and a half years now, following a massive stroke. The nurses pay great attention to his many needs, liaising with doctors and the hospital. The carers are attentive (and affectionate I think) both with him and me. I receive great support from all staff
when times are difficult from management to cleaners! The premises are cheerful, welcoming and kept very clean, a wonderful home for my husband and all the care he receives.

The care staff at Horsfall House are very kind, attentive and supportive. Residents are treated with dignity and respect. When call bells are rung, they are dealt with straight away. Some homes I have visited have bells ringing almost continuously, which is very annoying and frustrating for the residents.
When I have raised queries with management, they have been responded to very quickly. My mum feels able to question staff if she is dissatisfied, and has had a sympathetic response. When she complained about food being too salty, the chef went to see her to listen to her complaint.
Horsfall is always clean and does not have a distinctive aroma. Hygiene standards are good.
The receptionists are always welcoming and take a genuine interest in the residents and their families. Management staff know the residents and are available for a chat. Activities could be organised better. Mum is still very able mentally and she would like more challenging activities.
I highly recommend Horsfall House.

My wife has been in this unit for more than 2 years.
She has always been treated with respect and dignity.
The caring staff are very good at their various tasks; talking with the residents, feeding the less able, etc.
I am most fortunate to have my wife at Horsfall House.

My mother was a regular at the day centre and the care and support she got were flawless. A team of compassionate and knowledgeable carers who gave her her self-confidence back and something to look forward to every day. She met others, laughed lots and even ate well, a huge problem for her at home.
I can't thank them enough for being there for both of us.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.740)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.740) out of 10 for Horsfall House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.840 for Horsfall House is calculated as follows: ( (92 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.84

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Horsfall House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
