Knowing I was going away on holiday, and my stepfather was not doing great and was needing more support. Wasn't sure what to do. Guidance from the GP, of having respite never entered my mind. After reading reviews and speaking to people it was the right choice and whilst I was away, I was able to video
call and I could clearly see each time he was looking stronger and better in himself. Both myself and my stepfather managed to have a good 2 weeks' rest.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of respite stays at Rodley House. I'm sure your feedback will be very useful to other people in a similar situation, especially those who perhaps hadn't considered respite stays before. I'm pleased your stepfather enjoyed his time with us - he is welcome to return any time!

It has been a year since my mum moved to Rodley House Care Home. In this time there has been a steady decline in Mum's abilities to be independent. Each turn that has brought the decline has always been met with great kindness, professionalism, empathy for Mum and extended, thoughtful, caring approach
of myself and other relatives who have visited Mum.
I often find myself stumbling over words to say thank you with the full completeness and depth of what it means to me to have Mum so well looked after at this stage of her life. My genuine gratitude to all the staff for their continued and unfaltering care.
Thank you.

Reply from Rowen Campbell, on behalf of the team at Rodley House

What lovely words, thank you - we really appreciate it and we understand how hard it can be for families in this situation. It is an honour to be able to care for your mum at Rodley House and please, if there is anything more we can do for her, for you or for your family, just let us know.

My husband is bedridden and totally dependent on all his needs. I was really concerned that if my husband went into a nursery home, he wouldn't get the care I had been giving. I needn't have worried. From the moment he came to Rodley House, the staff have been amazing. They're all so kind and considerate,
and they take care of him just as I would if I was still able to.

Reply from Helen Dearing at Rodley House

My nan is always encouraged to be as independent as she can be by the staff at Rodley whilst knowing that they are always there to help if needed. When I have visited the staff have always been helpful and friendly. As my nan has mobility issues the staff enable nan to maintain her friendship with another
resident by taking her to their room or bringing her friend to her room. Rodley always has a very friendly , homely and welcoming atmosphere.

My mother held all staff members in high regard. She was always treated with kindness and respect and nothing was ever too much trouble, even when staff were under pressure. She was most impressed by the many activities arranged in order to stimulate residents. All staff worked very hard to ensure residents'
comfort and well-being. We, as visitors were also shown kindness and respect and found staff always very helpful.

My nan has been in Rodley House for several years and the staff look after my nan really well and always take an interest in our family. I am expecting a baby and the staff always enquire how I am doing. Nan is always encouraged to participate in activities at the home. She likes to play bingo but finds
it difficult because of her eyesight is poor, but a member of staff will always assist her so that she can join in.

When our son first came to Rodley House he and the whole family said our goodbyes as doctors advised that he was only likely to last days or weeks! Then began the transformation from initially receiving end of life care and gradually he was nursed back to health. He transferred to general residential
care and continued to thrive under the caring and expert staff at the home. He had two more years of good life and was very happy. He managed to have several visits to our home, the last being his 88th birthday in May which he greatly enjoyed. We can't thank Rodley House enough!

Mum was transferred to Rodley House from the hospital for palliative care. From the moment she arrived, she received the most tender and loving care anyone could have wished for. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and as a family, we were lucky to receive this love and care when we needed it
most. Thank you.

Care and attention to covid safety was exemplary, which was a large part of the reasons for choosing Rodley House, also helped by the online video with the Acting Manager who was warm, helpful, and extremely diligent, an absolute asset as were all of the staff. We felt mum was loved, not only cared
for. I found the whole operation even in such difficult times to be exceptionally well run. My sister and I were also treated with great care and respect.

Mum became a resident at Rodley House as she needed 24-hour palliative nursing care. Sadly she passed away within 5 weeks. In such a short space of time, it felt as though the staff had known Mum (and us) for years. She was treated with love, care and dignity throughout an incredibly difficult time,
especially given the Covid-19 problems. We can't thank the staff enough for the compassion they showed Mum, my brother and I.

Rodley House has been such a blessing for me and my family. The staff have gone out of their way in taking care of my mum and supporting us through a very difficult time. They go above and beyond their duty and have become our extended family, doing everything they can so mum keeps her dignity and receives
the highest standards of care. Mum may forget what you said or did each day but I will never forget how you make her feel. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.031)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.031) out of 10 for Rodley House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.950 for Rodley House is calculated as follows: ( (57 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.95

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.081 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rodley House is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.581

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
