Mum is happy and settled at Rodley House. The care is sensitive and very supportive. The management are happy to listen to our concerns and to act upon them. We could not ask for any more.

As a wife of a resident of Rodley House it gives me great peace of mind that my husband lives there. I know he is being well cared for, if I have any concerns or worries I telephone and ask. The team always have time for me and they put my mind at rest.

My mum is treated with respect and dignity at all times, she is kept clean and well dressed. Her hair is done every week but if she is not in the mood it is not forced on her. Myself and all her family are welcome at all times and anything concerning her is discussed with us. I feel I can speak to the
management and carers about any of my concerns at any time. I am very pleased that my mum is here at Rodley House.

Staff are extremely caring and helpful to my mother-in-law and treat her kindly and carefully at all times.
I am unable to make a complaint about her room as she will not use it.

I feel that the care my father receives is good, the staff are friendly and positive. However, as the residents rooms are small, when ever family and friends are visiting it's more pleasant to sit elsewhere. My father likes to sit outside when the weather is fine during the summer. The problem as I
perceive is that during the winter space is restricted, especially since one of the smaller sitting rooms has been given over to other uses. I would have been pleased had my father been offered physio sessions as exercise options are limited.

Reply from Christian Holst, Home Manager at Rodley House

Thank you for taking the time to submit a comment. I am pleased to hear that you are happy with the care your father receives here at Rodley House. The Home is an old building and so the provision of room sizes is unfortunately out of our control. We have however worked hard to implement other improvements to the environment, reorganised the communal areas and are planning further changes including public Wi-Fi and new communal furnishings.

I acknowledge that recently opportunities to have activities involving exercise have been limited however, we have trained staff to now deliver a range of activities based on each individual residents wishes and choices around the activities they choose to participate in. If you wish to discuss anything further please come and see me next time you visit the home.

Frankly little to worry about, but only concern is the feeling that shortage of staff is at the root of any problem.

Reply from Christian Holst, Communications Coordinator at Rodley House

Thank you for your review. I would like to reassure you that we do have a full complement of staff and we are fortunate to enjoy a higher than average retention rate, which is why Rodley House is a great place to live and work.

I find the home very welcoming and friendly. Its always very clean and fresh. Staff are always very respectable towards residents. On occasions there's been a resident new to the home who's naturally been very upset at having to leave their home. The staff has been very kind and patient with them and
in no time I've noticed them settled and happy. It is very easy to speak with a nurse in charge if you want to discuss medication or hospital appointments. I feel very lucky that my brother was accepted into Rodley House as the staff really do understand his needs, the nursery side and his cognitive problem. Having been an ex carer in various homes for 30 years. I'm a very observant person - I can honestly say without a doubt Rodley House is the best.

In my opinion, Rodley House provides excellent care, and a friendly, welcoming home for its residents. Two of my relatives have been cared for there, and in both cases their quality of life was very good. In one case, Rodley House rehabilitated a relative who was unable to walk on arrival, and that
individual has walked with a frame ever since. His life has certainly been prolonged by the care given.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.031)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.031) out of 10 for Rodley House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.950 for Rodley House is calculated as follows: ( (57 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.95

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.081 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rodley House is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.581

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
