Dunkirk Memorial House is situated close to the village of Bishops Lydeard, eight miles from the bustling town of Taunton, Somerset. It is set in acres of landscaped gardens, between the Quantock and Brendon Hills, and accommodates up to 90 residents in spacious rooms, all of which have en-suite facilities. Residents wishing to venture further afield can take advantage of the regular trips in the minibus to local towns and places of interest.

There’s a shared bond at Dunkirk Memorial House because each resident has a Service connection. It means there’s a team spirit and a feeling that everyone looks out for each other. The home goes the extra mile to make residents feel as comfortable as possible – after all, it’s their home. As well as the spacious lounges and beautiful gardens, there are plenty of places to sit and have a chat or enjoy the views over the Somerset countryside.

Residents are encouraged to continue their hobbies, or even try out something new. For example, there is a monthly Luncheon Club, as well as visits to gardens and the coast. The home also has indoor skittles, art and craft classes, armchair exercise sessions, social evenings in the bar, games of scrabble and cards, and books to borrow. There are several spacious lounges where residents can socialise or sit quietly and read. The home has a delightful Chapel with regular services, and a memorial garden for Remembrance services and quiet reflection.

Professional, responsive, fun. Staff in all departments knew Mum as an individual and built good-quality relationships with her and our family. Very thoughtful and efficient in Mum's last days. Forever thankful.

My father has been a resident in Dunkirk Memorial Home since March 2022. I regularly visit and always unannounced so see first-hand what amazing care looks like in practice. If I was to be ultra critical I would struggle to find any fault and this covers the entirety of the home and all staff. Quite
simply, 10 out of 10 does not reflect how amazing the home is.

My family all hoped that our mother’s quality of life could be as good as possible during the final few months of her life and the outstanding care at Dunkirk Memorial Home meant that our best hopes were exceeded. Mum thoroughly enjoyed the variety of activities on offer when she was well enough to
participate and the high quality meals ensured that she ate well with opportunities for socialising with others. All staff were so kind and understanding and the home accommodated several family gatherings which has given us precious memories. The end of life care mum received was amazing; all staff treated her with such kindness and dignity. My siblings and I were made to feel extremely welcome at all times of the day and night and supported well by staff. Overall, the positive experience mum had at Dunkirk Memorial House ensured that the final few months of her life were the best they could possibly be and her last few days were so peaceful. Thank you so much.

From the moment we were met on entry, staff have been warmly welcoming.
Their care and tender support are making Mum’s life safe, fulfilled and contented.
Activities with music, tea dances and art and craft, that are incredibly important to sustaining self-confidence - are a joy to observe our mum
engaging in. Varied and traditional fresh, nutritious on-site meals are absolutely first class. We are delighted that everyone is so beautifully looked after. It’s a pleasure to visit and a comfort Mum is happy there. First-class on every front.

Our precious mother was at Dunkirk Memorial Home for nearly five years. She sadly passed away in December. The quality of the care she received throughout the duration of her stay was outstanding. The care and support that she received in the two weeks whilst she was on end of life care was also
outstanding.


The staff at the home were very sensitive and were not phased by the amount of family members that stayed with her throughout this time and made us very welcome.


As a family, we would not hesitate to highly recommend this home.
