My wife had Parkinson's and narrowing arteries of the heart. My wife had no balance at all and everything had to be done for her. She was difficult insisting she could stand etc and consequently fall. She was very well looked after, patiently, kindly and efficiently. Encouraged to do things, we were
listened to by staff, occasional lapses of communication but put right quickly. It felt right as a place.

Staff were very kind and attentive to mum and to relatives, at a very difficult time. They were open and honest, keeping us abreast of any difficulties mum was having. They were also very accommodating to visiting dogs/families etc. The place is pleasant, light, airy and had a nice atmosphere. Well
run and cheerful.

My mother-in-law was cared for during the last weeks of her life at Frethey House. She had a lovely room with a pleasant view. She was treated with the care and kindness at all times. She was never allowed to be in any pain and all her needs were speedingly attended to. There were plenty of staff available
and all residents were treated with kindness and respect. I would unhesitatingly recommend Frethey House.

My mum came to Frethey House on a recommendation from a friend, who had had a very positive experience there. She very much felt it was the right choice for her offering her a place of friendliness and safety. She felt she was listened to by the staff regarding any comment she has on her care and acted
upon them. My mum always spoke highly of all at Frethey House who came into contact with her and as her family we always felt welcomed and reassured at all times. We are really grateful that she was able to end her days in the care of Frethey House. Thank you.

We looked at several nursing homes before choosing Frethey. What made Frethey stand out when we visited was the friendly calm but efficient atmosphere. The way the residents were being talked to and the interaction of the staff with the residents. My brother moved into Frethey in June 2014. The staff
soon got to know him, his likes and dislikes and above all else his sense of humour. We visited frequently and to hear the laughter coming from his room was brilliant. My brother had Motor Neurone disease which is a progressive, limiting illness that threw up a lot of challenges along the way. I always felt that the staff were very aware of the changes that the illness brought and supported my brother's choices. I always knew that I could talk to the manager and her staff no matter how busy they were. She is a very hands on manager who gives and gains respect from her staff. My brother and my family built up some wonderful relationships with the staff. My brother died in September 2015 and we will be forever grateful to the care team for the support and care they gave to my brother. The staff are what makes Frethey so good.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.515)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.515) out of 10 for Frethey House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.739 for Frethey House is calculated as follows: ( (68 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 92 Ratings = 4.739

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.776 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Frethey House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.2 = 0.976

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Helen Oliver

Job Title: Home Manager

Helen Oliver is our Home Manager at Frethey House, here’s a little bit more about herself and the home in her own words:

“As Home Manager I believe that our residents should be treated with the highest quality of care possible and endeavour to ensure that my team and I always maintain this, whilst making each day memorable.

I lead by example and involve myself in the day-to-day life of our community as well as making Frethey House a happy and enjoyable place in which to live and work. It is wonderful to see the smiles on resident’s faces every day. I have worked in care since 2009 with various roles and have educated myself to a degree level and completed my Level 10 in Leadership and Management in Social Care last year. It highlighted to me key areas and ideas that I can bring to my team to support them to get the best out of themselves and their roles. It is important to me that everyone gets a chance to develop and have opportunities.

At Frethey House, we are one big family and everything we do is from the heart, treating the people living in our community as individuals understanding their choices, wishes and dreams for no other reason than to make a difference every day. It is important to us that they feel valued and respected as their experiences and life stories are something we can learn from.”
