Amesbury Abbey offers independent living with additional support options available and a care home providing nursing care beds all set within 35 acres of beautiful parkland grounds; the ideal blend of high-quality care within a comfortable and peaceful environment.

The 38 Independent living properties are available through a lifetime residency agreement, with nursing home care beds available on a weekly fee.

Respite and convalescent care is catered for within the nursing home, which offers 45 individual apartments with accommodation spanning spacious, private suites through to cosy bed sitting rooms, all with a host of period features making each choice unique.

Single rooms enjoy en-suite bathrooms, while suites also include a separate drawing room and one or more bedrooms, suitable for couples.

Amesbury Abbey also offers on-site facilities including 2 dining rooms, elegant drawing room, conservatories, hairdressing salon, library and landscaped gardens, with private fishing rights on the Avon which flows through the grounds.

A qualified nursing team is on duty 24-hours a day, 365 days a year in the nursing home, which prides itself on the exceptionally caring nature of the staff. Food is freshly prepared by dedicated chefs and served in the beautiful dining room or conservatory.

Domestic support ensures that all the household chores are taken care of, allowing residents to fully enjoy their surroundings and busy events programme.

The independent living properties are supported by a team of friendly wardens, an award-winning chef and kitchen, dining room, maintenance and gardening teams, with regular outings ensuring there is plenty to entertain.

Additional support, if required, can be arranged through the company’s own registered domiciliary care agency, HomeCare Finder Ltd.

The care my father receives is exemplary. My father had a massive Stroke three years ago and is unable to speak, swallow or move. He is therefore highly vulnerable and has limited capacity to communicate his wishes. The Nursing team interpret my father's wishes promptly and with kindness. My brother
and I are most grateful for the care and attention he receives. I have no doubt that my father is in the best possible environment for his needs. The care team and the support staff are kind and I know my father has a good relationship with all the staff.

The standard of accommodation and care is excellent and I would have no concerns recommending The Abbey. One major omission is the lack of free WiFi for residents which makes communication difficult, particularly for family members who are located overseas. Access to free WiFi should be automatically
available for Abbey residents and included as part of the fees as there is an expectation that internet services are available across the board in the 21st Century.


There needs to be more thought given to providing meaningful activities for residents, especially those who have lost a partner and feel lonely and don't have family nearby. The activities program needs to be revamped and upgraded to provide more interactive and mental stimulation for residents. Upgrading the movie library would be a start! Contact with local preschools, primary schools would be a good first step for those residents who miss contact with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially at Christmas.

Thank you for your constructive feedback. Due to the nature of the building wifi has been a historical issue for us. We do however have a portable wifi hub which works across the building that residents can make use of on request, free of charge. We are in the process of recabling the entire building in order to install our own 'leased line' for guaranteed high speed broadband and improved phone services for all rooms and residents, which we hope will be installed later in the year. More immediately, we are revamping our library to include a PC with large screen for Skype calls and internet browsing.


With regard to activities, I am not sure if you are aware, we have recently added an additional Activity Coordinator to our team and do have lots of community initiatives in place. Local nursery children and children from local schools visited several times at Christmas and we have a regular reciprocal programme of visits starting in March. Friday Film Club show a mixture of old and new titles on resident request, more recent releases include; The Greatest Showman, The Lady In The Van & Victoria and Abdul.


Other recent activities of note include; themed dining- most memorably our Burns Night and black tie masked ball suppers, the Vintage and Cultural exhibitions in the drawing room created through staff, family and resident contributions, a visit to see the Lion Dancers bring in Chinese New Year, residents families giving various musical performances, a Ukele Band, visiting exotic animals, a barn dance with visiting farm animals, our infamous Dog Show, history lectures, a performance by a chamber music group, Rat Pack singer, dedicated one to ones, where residents choose what they would like to do and regular yoga sessions.

My mother instantly took to Amesbury Abbey Nursing Home; she was given a warm welcome and every effort was made to engage her and make her feel at home. My sister and I are hugely relieved that our beloved Ma is content, safe and in efficient, professional hands. The staff are exemplary and clearly
know how to "care" (especially when my Ma's fear of being fragile and old has made her inadvertently slightly impatient or brusque!). Amesbury has a wonderful convivial atmosphere. I highly recommend Amesbury and hope, that when I am elderly, I can live there.

My mother has spent many years at Amesbury Abbey, firstly in the Mews complex in her own flat and now in the main nursing home.
During her time at the Abbey, she has received a high level of care. The staff are very friendly and take a great deal of time to get to know residents, as a result, I feel
that she is within a family environment despite the necessity of being in a nursing home. Family is welcomed and we also feel the kindness extended to us. The food is good and plentiful and the grounds are beautiful and highly maintained. It is always difficult to assess the happiness of a resident within a care home as obviously they would prefer to be living a more independent life but as that is not possible past a certain stage of ageing, then Amesbury Abbey offers the best quality of life in beautiful surroundings, cared for by good staff and management. I am very happy with the care that my mother receives.

My Aunty (in-law) has been extremely happy living at the Amesbury Abbey Nursing home. Leaving her own home was a very hard decision for her to make but she has not once regretted making the move.


From the moment she moved in the staff have made her feel comfortable and well cared for. The accommodation

is superb and she was able to bring enough of her own furniture with her to make it feel like home. Her favourite seat is by the window with views across the well maintained gardens.


My Aunty finds the food very good and particularly loves the cakes and puddings! Not surprisingly she has put on weight which, in her case, is good to see.


All the staff at the Abbey have been very helpful and attentive whilst providing all the nursing and general care she now needs. It is very comforting to know my Aunty is so well cared for and is happy and content in her new home.


I would have no hesitation in recommending this nursing home to another friend or relative.

My Aunty has been a resident at the Amesbury Abbey Nursing Home for almost 11 months and has never regretted her decision to move. She felt at home the moment she came through the door which was a delight to see.


She absolutely loves her accommodation and enjoys having her own rooms to entertain

visitors with all her wonderful memories of bygone days in Amesbury over a cup of tea.


The staff are always attentive and helpful making my Aunty and her guests feel welcome. Nothing is too much trouble.


When the weather and Aunty's back permit we love taking her on walks around the beautiful gardens which she thoroughly enjoys. It is a comfortable walking distance to the town centre so on occasions we take her there to look around the shops and stop for a cuppa and piece of cake at the local bakery.


We and my Aunty all agree it was the right decision for her to move to the Abbey, where she feels safe, secure and well cared for, but most of all 'At home'.

My Ma became a resident aged 97 after a bad fall. Three years later she has just celebrated her 100th Birthday at Amesbury Abbey, enjoying a tea party in the beautiful grounds with 23 family, and in good health! Her rooms are full of her own familiar bits, and we are able to pop in any time.

Maggie is our wonderful Home Manager. She leads the team and is an RGN Advance Nurse Practitioner bringing a wealth of clinical experience to the home. This is Maggie' second time working for us. We were also her very first job as an RGN! Maggie has spent her career working in the NHS, General Practice and supporting various care homes. We are delighted to have her back with us.
