All the staff are to be commended on their hard work, compassion and integrity. They all treated my mum with respect and she thought of it as 'home'. From top to bottom, thank you all so much.

My father in law was admitted to Hays House from hospital needing full nursing care and help. On arrival he hated the room he had been allocated and another room was immediately found with a beautiful view and on the ground floor. Sadly he was only a resident for two and half months as was expected
but I was so glad he was there, well cared for with respect and a genuine interest in helping him settle in and remain comfortable. I have to admit he was a character and maybe not always easy to look after but they accepted him and the staff and management were very caring and supportive to both of us. I felt relieved he was in the best place for his needs and he said he felt safe and well cared for. Thank you to all the staff for their caring attitude. There was only one occasion when I felt a member of staff could have managed his needs better and I was able to discuss this with management and was confident the issue would be addressed to benefit all. The house is set in beautiful grounds.

Our dad was at Hays House from February to June. I know from my first visit it was the right place for him. Warm, kind and caring staff in a beautiful setting. When Dad passed away he was treated with care and dignity and I felt very well supported.

My grandad has been with the home since August 2022.
All the staff are welcoming, kind and always around for a laugh with my grandad.
He seems much happier, focusing and enjoying things he probably wouldn't have done at home. The staff are always keeping the residents entertained, always keeping
everyone up to date with photos on social media of what the residents are up to, which is nice to know what's going on when you are quite far away. Staff keep families up to date with any news and regularly host coffee mornings and activities which families can come too.
My grandad is always having a laugh with the staff members whether that be the carers, housekeepers or kitchen staff. The staff will always cross fields and help out whenever needs to be when we are there.
You can definitely see an uprise in my grandad's health now that he is in a home that are so compassionate.

The staff have been amazing since Dad was admitted to them from the hospital just over a year ago.
I have found all the staff to be supportive, patient, and understanding with concerns and worries I have had in sometimes stressful and upsetting situations. Every question I have asked has been answered
and dealt with professionally and with kindness.
I have witnessed every week the wonderful treatment from all the staff towards not only my dad but other residents and their families. Dad loves telling me about his friends and his favourite members of staff (there are many) which is such a relief to me that he feels a part of the Hays House family.
The activities are something Dad enjoys either by watching or joining in, and the variety of entertainment is amazing. Dad is also a huge fan of the food.
I am extremely grateful for Dad being looked after by such a lovely group of caring people. This has helped me come to terms with the fact that Dad is no longer at home with us.

My dad enjoys being at the care home and keeps saying the staff are great and will do anything for you. He cannot praise them enough and neither can his family for the care, consideration, compassion and friendliness that is shown to everyone. My dad is truly looked after and we know he is safe and
cared for. Can't praise Hays House enough.

Hays House Nursing Home have looked after my husband very well. The staff are very helpful and friendly and they always go the extra mile to make sure things are ok. I have been less worried about him since he has been at Hays House as he is looked after so much better there than he was in hospital
or at the other nursing home he was in.

My Uncle has been at Hays House Nursing Home for almost two years following a change in his care needs. In addition to his requirement for nursing care, he also has a learning disability. The entire team, have done everything they can to learn about him, and how best to deal with his complex needs,
likes and dislikes and have made him feel very secure in his new environment. Initially going to Hays House during Covid, with family unable to visit regularly, the Management made every effort to discuss his needs with me in detail and did their utmost to help him feel comfortable and at home. They support him in every way and now alongside visiting in person, we have a weekly FaceTime with him, supported by staff members, which has helped us all enormously. I can’t speak highly enough of the team for everything they do to support and care for him, working with us to make him feel loved and cared for.

Following two years at a local care home, my wife required a nursing situation. I looked around at many other local homes and after much deliberation settled on Hays House, Shaftesbury. From the start, she was very settled and as daily visitors, I and all of the family were always made very welcome.
COVID 19 arose last year, visiting became difficult, we were very concerned that they were admitting post COVID patients on recovery and complained. This continued, but their admission and our concerns lessened. Visiting became even more difficult and did not meet my wife’s need for physical contact and presence, but for the safety of everyone, we recognised that the policies were necessary. In care home situations nothing can be perfect. But after four years of care homes, two at Hays House and much personal experience and research; Hays House is as good as it gets. They are well led, the staff at all levels are all heroes and we will always be grateful for their love and care.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.541)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.541) out of 10 for Hays House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.811 for Hays House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (74 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 90 Ratings = 4.811

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.73 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hays House Nursing Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.93

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
