Set in the historic Wiltshire town of Royal Wootton Bassett, Miranda House is a purpose-built home providing residential, nursing and dementia care support for up to 65 older people, including trial stays, shorts stays, convalescent care and long-term care for individuals or couples.

Extra-wide corridors have been built to enable residents to move freely in spacious surroundings and the gardens have been landscaped specifically to allow residents ample recreational facilities. All rooms have ensuite facilities, TV points, an option for a private telephone line and are available fully furnished with the opportunity for residents' preferred special items of furniture if required.

Elevating the resident dining experience and ensuring that they cater to all residents' needs, they take great pride in having Head Chef Michelle Chamberlain as part of the team who was crowned Aria Care Chef of the Year 2024. Recognised for her exceptional culinary talent, Michelle’s skills and passion are evident in the remarkable meals that she creates for residents here at Miranda House.

The professional care team works closely with residents to provide personalised care and with dementia training for all staff, residents benefit from a broad range of activities with dedicated wellbeing coordinators who ensure a varied and stimulating programme are available to residents daily.

The staff are very friendly and competent.
My dad seems happy and always clean and shaved. When he is ill they act quickly and always keep us informed on what's happening. More pictures on the app would be great.

I find this home, especially the staff, very helpful, considerate and caring towards my wife, she is very well looked after. I can not provide a rating for some of the areas as I not been inside properly for two years.

The care and compassion shown to all residents has been invaluable. The care home prior to Miranda House was so awful that I complained to CQC; but from day one, my mother-in-law was met and cared for with love and respect, alongside supporting us as a family. All medical needs, COVID tests and updates
are communicated to next of kin and everyone at Miranda House will always have time for you with a smile.

My dad was transferred from hospital to Miranda House in September 2020 for end of life care, he was given two weeks but with their love and care he had another six months. We as a family were unable to give Dad the specialist care he needed and will be forever grateful that they, through their hard
work and dedication, gave my dad the care that he deserved and needed, nothing was too much trouble staff go out of their way to ensure what’s best for every resident and support the extended family. I witnessed staff making sure that residents were well cared for, even doing the ladies nails and make-up. Music being played, residents dancing, staff joining in, staff going out of their way to make FaceTime calls to families keeping them in touch. The staff at Miranda House will never be forgotten by us for the love and care that they gave to my dad, and quite frankly, to me too just when we needed it most.

We all accept this is a difficult job but after my father was quite seriously hurt we were continuously lead to believe he was OK when in fact he had a broken bone that was only bought to light over a week after the incident when he was admitted to hospital. To be deceived in this way is not acceptable
and bought a lot of upset to the family.
We now find it hard to trust anyone, even though many carers do a fantastic job.

Keep your loved ones away from this home, it took three days before they took dad to hospital with an unexplained broken bone. Avoid until investigated! Two weeks of isolation left him looking like he had been in a concentration camp.

My mother has excellent one to one care (one of the lucky few). I am a regular visitor to Miranda House and have witnessed the care of many over the last 23 months. The care by the day staff is second to none. They display kindness, patience, understanding and tolerance, although being overstretched
and could benefit everyone with more staff. The home is kept clean at all times and the laundry staff are diligent. Activities could be more but are satisfied with the budget allowed. I feel the residents could benefit from some music in the communal areas for those with poor site and attention deficit disorders. The food is satisfactory but not good!

The staff in C section are excellent and provide a top level of care. Some of the newer residents can be extremely challenging including violence towards other residents and staff, in my opinion, they should have one to one care. Miranda House is kept clean and tidy although lacks updating and could
do with investment.
The entertainments officer is keen and happy to spend a lot of her own time collecting anything being given away that she can use to entertain the residents again, in my opinion, more investment is needed.

My grandmother is a relatively new resident at Miranda House. The move was quite sudden but everyone has been kind, welcoming and helpful.


It would benefit my grandmother greatly if all personnel wore their name badges. It’s a simple way to help those with dementia, particularly when in a new and

unfamiliar environment.


The food prepared for residents has consistently been to a high standard and the range of food is very sensible indeed. However, the cutlery and crockery doesn’t always get cleaned properly by the dishwasher. The opportunity to eat privately in her room is a real bonus.


We have noted that the ambient noise is louder than expected (e.g. doors closing or staff calling out to each other from one end of a corridor to another). The doors could benefit from a spot of WD40 or some sandpaper and colleagues could stand closer so they don’t have to shout.


To conclude, we have been impressed with the care and support offered by Miranda House.

As soon as you enter the building the security is good, with antiseptic gel available. The staff are welcoming and friendly and will find the resident you wish to visit.
All staff will answer any queries and if they are unable to do so, will find the person who can.
Staff ask for background information
if it has not already been provided and are polite and friendly if using the telephone for such occasions.
There is no stress on us when enquiring about 'our residents' progress and situation.
We have been informed immediately when any incidents occurred, fortunately, these have been minor and in no was reflect on the standard of the care provided and have not been unexpected.

My mother has been at Miranda House since 2012, at that time she was able to do much more. Went out on the mini bus to garden centre's and sometimes to the seaside and lunches she likes the music and playing bingo. It is always clean and staff are always there to help.

At the end of November, the family were at their wit's end. Miranda House was amazing. They saw us within less than an hour of our phone call. The staff (everyone) have been amazing. We were reassured and nothing seemed too much trouble. My mother in law had never been parted from her husband (66 years
married) but she knows he is getting the best care and he is safe, well and happy. The people are so so kind and it's a pleasure to visit the home.

Mandi is our Home Manager at Miranda House, here’s a little bit more about herself and the home in her own words:


“I have worked in elderly care since 1987 across only five different homes during this time. I have mainly worked with dementia residents during my time in the sector. I enjoy the aspect of moving homes forward with the team, to ensure that our residents have a meaningful and safe environment to live in. I believe it is important to make sure that relatives are also part of that journey.


I want to be a familiar face out and about at Miranda House and will be actively involved in getting to know all our residents and working with the team to ensure I bring cohesiveness to the home.


At Miranda House, care from the heart means our great team ensures our residents and relatives are cared for as if they were our own family, always going that extra mile. The team also looks after each other, true teamwork. For us caring is always ensuring you are doing your best for everyone. Giving the time to listen, chat, and always being compassionate.”
