White Lodge Care Home is a converted hunting property, thoroughly renovated for the practice of professional care within picturesque surroundings, with a lake for its backdrop.

Highly qualified staff provide person-centred care to adults with residential and nursing needs, and to those living with dementia, and work tirelessly to enrich the lives of residents through expert care and meaningful occupation.

A programme of activities is offered, including special events and entertainment and regular trips out and about. A music therapy programme is also provided through group and one-to-one sessions. The home also has a professional Head Chef, who leads the kitchen tea, and they work together to create nutritious and delicious menus for residents, families and guests to enjoy.

My father has been resident at White Lodge since January. I have found the carers and the management to be very responsive to requests and observations about his care, which is so important for us as Dad has difficulty expressing his needs.
His dedicated carers are kind, respectful and encouraging.
The
atmosphere at White Lodge is both cheerful and peaceful, rooms are pleasnat and family and friends are made very welcome.
The house is in a beautiful setting. Dad is content and we are reassured he is well cared for.

My mother went into hospital and then 2 other care homes before coming to you. She stayed in bed and lost weight. Since coming to you, she has put on 4kgs and is getting out of bed. Also, she is socialising with the other residents. I am very impressed as even when she lived at home, she refused and
we had many arguments over this, to go out and socialise.

It is like visiting a relative in a hotel. Good use of space - plenty of choices for a quiet corner. Good for talking with someone who has trouble concentrating. Staff always seem welcoming and happy. The whole place seems to be an orderly calm experience.

My uncle has recently moved into Barchester White Lodge Care Home. We have noticed a vast improvement in him and wanted to note that we are extremely pleased with his change in mood and the care that he is receiving.


Our Grandmother has also been a resident here for nearly two years and since she

moved there the quality of care that she now receives is much improved from the previous home she was in and she is much happier as a result of this.

My husband entered White Lodge on 21 August 2017. He has advanced Alzheimer's disease and has not spoken for many months. Today, while listening to Country and Western music in the sitting room at Tree Tops, I asked if he was enjoying the music, to which he replied a joyous yes.


He seems much more

alert than in his previous care home and is kept both clean and comfortable.


It is a relief to know his needs are being met.

Mum moved in 8 weeks ago. None of us knew what to expect but we were welcomed warmly and much re-assured. 8 weeks later and mum has benefitted from the care she has received. She is safe, cared for and well-nourished. Most of all, she is happy and engaging well with staff and residents alike. We are

After spending three lots of respite care in White Lodge and trying out three other homes, I decided to become permanent here. After 6 weeks I am satisfied I made the correct choice. Nothing will ever be perfect, the food is boring and very often cold on arrival (my pet hate). Medication time is
unreliable. I understand this is unavoidable. The staff are wonderful.

Very efficient, helpful staff assisting with the transfer from York Hospital to the care home. His arrival was warm and welcoming along with a hot meal. He has felt comfortable and happy as he can be as he is very poorly. Good for the family too as we can come and go as we please and most of the time,
there is support for us too.

I find White Lodge a very nice, friendly home. The staff here are very nice caring people and they always try to be helpful to my husband and are patient with him when sometimes he can be difficult. He has a nice room with a lovely view and the grounds are lovely to walk around in the summer. I feel
I can visit him at any time and am always made welcome by the staff. Overall my husband is in good hands here.

A good reception area and pleasant staff. The staff have a difficult time in accommodating all the different needs of the residents and do not have time to do many activities, besides the nursing needs. Staff are pleasant and have a good understanding of residents needs.

White Lodge used to be the best care home in the locality. Unfortunately, over the last 2-3 years, the quality of care and the activities have deteriorated largely due to recruitment problems. Most of the staff are excellent as individuals but they are too thinly spread. On occasions, we have found
our aunt in the same clothes for 2-3 days. We are not entirely happy and the high cost is not justified by high quality, as it was before. However moving our aunt would be disruptive, so we will watch and wait for now.

White Lodge is warm and welcoming. The rooms are bright and clean. There are several communal areas on each floor which are regularly used to host the variety of activities that are organised thoughtfully and expertly by the activities team to cater for the needs and personalities of the different residents.
They enhance life at White Lodge and highlight White Lodge as excellent. In my experience, the care team are kind and friendly and treat residents with courtesy and dignity. The housekeeping team work hard and do a good job keeping everywhere clean and fresh and I am impressed that clothes are laundered and returned promptly. The catering team are hardworking and produce wonderful food.

On arrival the staff were welcoming, the room prepared and my husband settled quickly. He is comfortable here because the carers and nurses are familiar and that gives him an added sense of security. The meals are varied and he enjoys the curries which are one of the specialities of the chef.

I am Ramona Gherendi and I am the General Manager here at White Lodge.


I joined Barchester in 2018 as a Clinical Lead, progressing to Deputy Manager and then General Manager of White Lodge in 2020. My focus at White Lodge is to ensure residents have the best possible life and experiences every single day, supported by the skilled and caring team here. I am committed to person-centred care for all our residents and my door is always open to them and their families.


I have a real passion for nursing beginning my nursing career in 2004 in Romania as a cardiac nurse. I moved to the UK with my family in 2011 and I have worked in adult general nursing in the UK since then.


For anyone considering care for themselves or for a loved one, our doors are open for you to visit and meet the team.

I oversee clinical training for the White Lodge team and I ensure residents have their medication and treatment reviewed regularly. I also make sure that nursing processes are understood and followed by the team.

Prior to taking the position, I worked as a care assistant within the home for 2 years loving every minute of my role. My passion is very much in supporting the day to day lives of the people we care for, it is important to me that our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities.


Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends’ meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining White Lodge that will make for an enriched activities program to be developed, one that keeps them at the heart of the local community.
