Heartlands Nursing and Care Home, in the Yardley area of Birmingham, is a well-respected nursing and care home specialising in care for people with all forms of dementia, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. The nursing and care team have years of experience in delivering high standards of care and support. Heartlands has good wheelchair access, enclosed outdoor spaces and good relationships with local GPs and other health professionals.

Heartlands Care Home is spread over three floors and registered to provide personalised, family-led care in a luxury yet homely environment, but at an affordable cost to the local community of Birmingham. The home boasts 66 en-suite bedrooms, a family room, relaxation spa, private dining room, café/bistro, cinema room and a garden room.

Residents enjoy a wide range of activities and events, led by the well-being and activities team who get to know each resident individually and support them to continue to enjoy their hobbies and interests.

Nan has been with Heartlands now for just over a month. She was not coping at home even with the help of carers and wasn't eating and very unhappy having some very low moments. Since going to Heartlands she has gained weight, her mood has lifted, and she is socialising and has made friends which she
never really had. She has very high praise for the home and its carers; she looks like a different woman! Thank you, Heartlands, for being so wonderful with her and bringing our nans happy self back, now all she needs is her teeth, and she will be her again!

Since our mother has been in Heartlands Care & Nursing Home she is a completely new 86 year old, she is interacting with every activity even to a church service which she really enjoyed. Our mom can't praise all staff enough saying how helpful and lovely they all are. Mom has got continuous company
which is what she needed, she says it's like a hotel, you have whatever you want to eat, just ask them. Our mom has made some friends also which is also what she needed. We would recommend Heartlands Care & Nursing Home to everyone who needs this service, all we have so far is positive. Thank you to all the staff who work here whatever your role may be.

My Nan was moved in to Heartlands through lock down. This was really hard on our family especially knowing we wouldn't be able to see her. We have had nothing but support and we, as a family, have felt so overwhelmed at times and it is a great relief to know that my Nan is safe and well and being looked
after by people that genuinely seem to care about her. Although I haven't been able to visit yet, my mum has and she said the home is beautiful. I have seen pictures of my Nan's room and one of the managers sent us a virtual tour. As we couldn't visit or get transport there, one of the managers also drove to my Nan's home to collect some of her belongings so she had clothes, photos and her favourite blanket in her room. I felt that was above and beyond - what a lovely thing to do. Whilst Nan is frail and unable to take part in most activities, we have received photos of her and we have seen her participate which is really reassuring. Thank you for everything you have done, you're all amazing.

I wanted a good care home for my uncle that gave him a good quality of life still with no restriction on moving around and somewhere for him to be happy and at home. I visited twice before my uncle became a respite resident and didn't need an appointment. I was welcomed and shown around an extremely
clean, friendly home that didn't disappoint. My uncle initially went for a few weeks respite but was soon one of the family there and I knew that it was the best place for him to have a good life with people who make him smile and love him. They have had very trying times this year but have provided so much fun and stimulation for all the residents, including giving one to one time when they need it. Food is good quality and residents are always clean and well cared for and treated with respect. I have no hesitation in recommending Heartlands. I have visited lots of care homes but here was the place I had in mind for my uncle and it has surpassed all my expectations.

We had no idea what would be the outcome of my uncle going into care and we didn't deliberately choose Heartlands care home but you'd never believe how glad and grateful we, the family, are that we're with Heartlands. The team are absolutely brilliant and are such great caring people with a special
mention for the staff member who smoothed out every problem and concern for the family, nothing is ever too much trouble for the team. The home features regularly on Facebook and we get to see the daily activities that have taken place in the care home. Would I and the family recommend Heartlands care home? Absolutely and without any hesitation.

My mother is a dementia resident at Heartlands Care Home and, having viewed several other residential care homes with some despondency, eventually found Heartlands, and the decision to place her there has not been regretted. She is happy, safe, well looked after and treated with the dignity she deserves.
The care staff go above and beyond to make sure the residents are well cared for, feel valued, feel they are part of an extended family, and are kept occupied with various activities. The surroundings are lovely, always clean and tidy, and it's a pleasure to visit. The support staff are always at hand, helpful and cheerful, just what was needed when I had to make the difficult decision to place my lovely Mom into care because of her advanced dementia. I would highly recommend Heartlands Care Home.

Having recently moved my husband who has Alzheimers into Heartlands for respite care, I have been really impressed with the environment and accommodation. This is a wonderful home. I cannot thank the staff enough for the love and care they show to my nan. It was so hard on all of us to see her go into a home. The first home she went in to was appalling and we felt so guilty that she had not been treated with dignity, Heartlands go above and beyond and
she is so happy now. For the first time in years, myself and my mum have been able to sleep. She really enjoys the activities and we love to see her taking part and having fun. The home is beautiful and always so clean. We would like to thank one member of staff in particular, she has shown so much care and compassion to not only my nan but us. It was a very emotional time for us all and she honestly couldn't do enough for us. She's worth her weight in gold. Thank you to everyone that looks after her.

Mom arrived at the care home on 17th December 2018. We viewed a number of other homes in the area but Heartlands offered the best facilities by far. Mom was welcomed by all of the staff who treated her with respect and dignity. This is a well designed, well managed and well-run facility. All of the
staff are helpful and friendly and appear to have moms best interests in mind in all that they do. The food is ok. Mom will say that the tea time food is sometimes poor especially the sandwiches. I have taken control of the laundry for mom as a couple of her items went missing (despite having labels attached). It appears that the more delicate items are treated the same way as general items and as a result lost shape and minor damage occurred.

As soon as we entered Heartlands nursing home we knew that this was the right home for our friend.
As soon as you walk into reception you are met with a warm welcome. The management are extremely helpful and made you feel at ease, and can go and talk to them at any time, it's great to see that they
are involved with both staff and residents' well being and not just sat in an office.
The cleanliness of the home is exceptional, ALL staff from the management, cleaners, carers and nursing staff, are very approachable, professional and friendly. The food is plentiful, residents always have a good choice to chose from.
Residents are free to use any of the facilities, such as the cinema room being one, then there is the shop, and pub. The garden is well kept and secure.
My friend has been a resident for a while now and the difference in both her mental and physical health has been amazing, she is very happy to be there, saying that the staff make her feel wanted and loved.

Job Title: Activities and Well-being Coordinator

Joined: 2005

I am Activities & Well-being Coordinator at Heartlands so together with my colleague we complete two group activities per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. In between these times I spend time with residents one on one, we have quite a few residents that are unable to take part in group activities so I like to ensure they are not isolated and feel part of our family. I plan future events and activities and I work closely with our CRM to go through ideas. Because I have a background in care I also assist with self-care and mealtimes.
I love my job because I feel that I can contribute towards improving the quality of life for our residents, making them smile is so rewarding. Tracy lives locally, has 3 children and loves her job. The best part of the job is the ‘butterfly moments’, precious moments with residents. I like getting residents together and seeing how socialising can change the mood for residents making them feel more positive and upbeat.
I am also a Dignity Champion for Heartlands Care Home and a Dementia Friend.
I am working towards my Diploma in Care which I will complete in July 2019.
