Visited my mother today. The staff are very approachable and the cleaners keep the home smelling fresh and looking clean, but some things need updating and a bit of TLC, otherwise we as a family feel that mother is safe clean, and well looked after. I would definitely recommend and would like to thank
the staff for caring for my mother.

They took me in as an emergency. The carers were very good and professional. They looked after me very well. They kept on looking in to make sure I was ok. The food was nice, the chef came up to let me know what was on that day, he was a very happy man always had a smile. I had poached eggs in the mornings,
which I haven't had for years, and twice a full breakfast which was very nice for them to do for me.
The cleaner was a very polite and professional always had a smile and did his cleaning very good.
They have a lovely lady that does events with the people that live in the home, have time to do lots of things.
A very nice time I had while I was there.

A great number of issues have arisen concerning the care of my mother whilst at the home. A fall in December was a direct result of the lack of care provided to my 84-year-old mother. Since returning from hospital to the home the care has still fallen way short of what should be happening. As a result,
we have raised a complaint with the owner and sat down with him to discuss the issues. We have also informed the CQC of the numerous issues and been open and honest with the owner.
As a result of our complaints the owner has now served my 84-year-old mother with an eviction notice!
Is that really a caring attitude? Is that a willingness to resolve issues? Seems to me the owner has the attitude of get rid of the messenger rather than sort out the issues causing the problems.

Really impressed with the caring, hard working staff at Highbury Care Home. My sister was only there for a month but was really looked after in an extremely safe and professional manner. Every member of staff, including all the nurses, domestics and catering gave great support in what was a very difficult
time for our family. When my sister had a seizure the staff were there instantly to provide care and support. Highbury is first class on staff levels, quality of care and cleanliness levels. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 7.4 (7.353)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.4 (7.353) out of 10 for Highbury Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.7 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.708 for Highbury Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (17 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (5 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 3.708

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.645 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highbury Nursing Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.395

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
