Sadly my Mom was only in the nursing home for 9 days but during those 9 days the care and attention she received was second to none. All the staff from the care assistants, well being nurses, cleaners and the manager treated my Mom with the utmost respect and dignity at all times.
Although my Mom
never managed to eat a meal they looked both substantial and nutritious and were always readily available as were the cups of tea and meal replacements.
The room was clean and spacious and we were allowed to take in things from home to make it feel more homely which I thought was a lovely touch.
I do not have anything negative to say about Hodge Hill Grange and am only pleased that my Moms final days were spent in such a lovely place with such lovely people.

That was the first time I was involved with a nursing home and funding etc. I was on a steep learning curve. The managers and nursing staff were extremely supportive and helpful in my navigating my understanding. The home is a very happy one, the staff are always smiling and efficient. Food very good
care excellent. My brother is happy and well cared for. The care plan for him second to none. I was buzzing about how happy and as independent as possible without support he was. Highly recommended.

Dad was under the care of Hodge Hill Grange Care Home for almost four years. His care was excellent, with friendly staff who made him feel at home. He really enjoyed the food and drink available and also enjoyed taking part in the activities on offer. Rooms were kept clean and tidy as were communal

My wife was a resident at Hodge Hill Grange Care Home for five and a half years having suffered from dementia. During that time she was always very well looked after by the management and staff who displayed kindness, dedication and loving care throughout (often in very difficult circumstances) until
her death in January 2022.
The family will forever be grateful for the care received and also for the friendship, courtesy and respect shown to me and other family members, particularly during these very difficult times caused by the pandemic.

Find the staff extremely welcoming and helpful/. The care home is very clean and tidy. The food served is very good. My mother in law always looked clean and presentable. Very satisfied that my mother in law is getting the best care and is well looked after.

On having to find a home for my dad who has dementia we came across Hodge Hill Grange I've passed it so many times on the road but didn't know it was there behind trees "Hidden Gem". My dad was greeted into the home by the manager at the door a lovely gesture and a few of the staff came to introduce
themselves and show him around. On him being here for 2 months now I couldn't be happier with the care he receives the outstanding work the well-being coordinators people do is amazing playing records, doing games, dancing everyday chat's to keep him active sending me photos and videos is a big comfort. T see him smile, laugh and join in the reassurance that is needed when having to place your parent in a home. I've gone different times of the day and weekends to meet the staff and see what feelings I have, all I can say is a clean, happy, calming presence received at all times with the secure comfortable, cosy feeling of being Home.
A big thank you to all the staff for making the transition easier from a daughter who loves her dad dearly.

In the time Mum has been at Hodge Hill Grange, she has been treated with kindness and affection which her deteriorating dementia has made difficult at times.
Although it has been a difficult time, I am impressed with the lack of Covid infection in the home.

What can I say about Hodge Hill Grange - if it wasn’t for the fantastic staff that has looked after our mother in these terrible times we find ourselves in I don’t know what we as a family would have done. The staff are so good with our mother, they make sure she is safe and all her needs are met. We
as a family are able to contact the home any time of the day to enquire about our mother, I myself phone every evening and it is never too much for the staff to give me an update on what mums been up to that day. In these times, we are able to have a FaceTime with mum which is fantastic just being able to see her reassures us that our mother is been looked after. Thank you to the staff.

My mother is a resident of Hodge Hill Grange. Overall she is looked after extremely well and her needs are catered for. Since March, I have had three garden visits and a birthday visit through the windows. This is the area that needs to improve. There should be no reason why, with careful planning,
I cannot visit my mother.

Although we understand your frustrations with visiting, all Birmingham homes are in lockdown currently, due to high levels of infection in the area, therefore this is not a decision made by the home. Can't fault care.
Just a couple of issues when I visit, I always have to clean spectacle with soap water, have to clean nails.

Sadly my uncle passed away in Hodge Hill Grange recently. The home had an incorrect contact number for myself, however, they had my address (this has been the same for 27 years). They did not notify me by letter and offer any chance to collect his personal effects or discuss his final moments.
I was
notified by social services regarding my uncles passing in September, he passed in July. Social services wrote to advise me of this.
When I took this up with the manager, she was unwilling to discuss the matter by telephone, saying any complaint had to be in writing and it was a breach of data protection to give me any information. She would not give me the date of death (required to register the death) causing more delays for my uncle to be laid to rest.
She gave the details to the funeral directors that were appointed by my uncle, not sure how this didn't breach the law?
I was advised that there would be a formal investigation and to date, I have had no details of the findings to date.

Mom in Law has only been resident for a couple of months and although she wasn't happy about it in the first week or two I have noticed a big change in her now she has got used to being in care. She has made some friends and seems happy and contented - long may it continue.

As a dedicated healthcare professional, Karen Mayo has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards of care and quality of life for Residents.


Having worked at Hodge Hill since mid-August 2021, Karen closely shares HC-One’s vision is aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Karen remarked:


“Knowing that I’m helping to make a difference in our resident’s day. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a smile on someone’s face and knowing you helped to put it there”.


Karen has also achieved much outside of work, with her proudest achievement being getting her driving licence. Karen had always relied on family to get her where she needed to be but in 2019 decided it was time to bite the bullet and start some driving lessons. She passed the first time within 4 ½ months.


Outside of work, Karen enjoys spending time with her family, she is a proud mother and grandmother. Whenever she can, Karen will have days out with her family and also enjoys reading in her spare time.
