Marian House is an exceptional care home for older people located in Sutton Coldfield. The nursing home has been awarded a ‘good’ rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) report in April 2023. With the most recent refurbishment completed in 2022, the nursing home is spacious, modern and beautifully presented.

Marian House offers a comprehensive range of 24-hour nursing care services for the elderly. Residents enjoy an exceptional lifestyle with access to various amenities both inside the nursing home and out in the local community. The dedicated activities team regularly organise group and one-to-one activities tailored to the needs of the residents.

There is always something happening at Marian House. Some residents enjoy being kept busy with light activities and friendly conversations with professional care staff, while others seek longer moments of peace and quiet. As such, they appreciate the day-to-day life of all residents will differ. The team work around residents' needs and preferences, while ensuring their health (physical and emotional) stays top of mind.

Being a specialist nursing care provider the home is equipped with lifts aids and hoists for residents with specialised mobility needs. All the nursing beds have recently been replaced with new, modern adjustable models - without looking “clinical”. There are two good-sized lounges for residents and visitors to relax and socialise with each other. In the warmer weather the residents have full use of another lounge which extends into the dining room and overlooks the leafy garden.

The home also boasts a hydrotherapy unit which has been recently installed into the building.

There is Wifi available throughout the home allowing regular FaceTime calls to be made for residents who wish to connect with their loved ones (the professional carers will even show you how it’s done).

Dad has been a resident at Marian House Nursing Home for 18 months now, and we are really happy that he is well looked after, safe and cared for by the team. His room is always nice and clean whenever we visit, and we can sit in privacy there to spend some quality time with him. Dad has settled in here
lovely now, and he has a lot of friends with the staff. The back office team have always been incredibly helpful and supportive from day one, which goes a long way. Compared to two previous care homes Dad was in, this is so much better as he wasn’t looked after properly, and we get a lot of comfort in knowing Dad is safe here in these difficult circumstances. Well done, and thanks to all the team.

I am very happy with the quality of care given to my brother. Whilst he is a resident at this care home, the quality of care at this home provides excellent standards of care from management to domestic, kitchen, care, etc. This home is extremely warm and inviting from all of the staff with excellent
communication skills, ie management and staff are extremely supportive of my brother whilst he is in their care. The standards of cleanliness and excellent standards of hygiene are of high standards, providing healthy, nutritious meals are provided for all residents. I am happy that my brother is in the right place for care.

My mom has vascular dementia and is bedridden, I work full time and it gives me peace of mind to know the excellent care she is given. Mom can’t participate in activities because of the severity of her condition, but could do the music therapy in her own room, they are excellent from the managers to
the cleaning staff they always chat with me when I visit and with my mom.

Very welcome from staff, clean and tidy and polite staff. We were very impressed with the nursing home, the staff even heated up the dinner we bought in for our cousin and my husband.

My sister appears to be happy and appears to be given good care by all members of staff. The staff are very friendly and if I have an issue they are approachable.
I am always kept up to date with what is going on with her.

Dad has been in Marian House for 5 months and he has settled in well. The staff/carers are lovely and care for Dad well. All his needs are well managed. Dad's room is always clean as are the corridors and common areas.

From the initial contact with the office manager, who could not have been more helpful and understanding, the staff have helped us navigate Mom's move into nursing care. The home is always beautifully kept and the atmosphere is friendly and caring. They have helped us all adapt to this phase of Mom's

My dad has been a resident for over 3 years and as a family, we couldn't be happier with the care he's received. They give him the care we are unable to do ourselves. We know he is loved and looked after by all the staff - from the office to the cleaners and everyone in between.
They keep us well-informed
about medical issues and are regularly in touch with us. The home is always clean and has a lovely feel about it when you walk in. The staff are very friendly and approachable and happy to help if we need anything.

As a volunteer, I visit Marian House weekly to administer Holy Communion to two residents. During the visit, I usually have some brief discussions with staff and always feel welcome. I find the staff to be both friendly and accommodating. Particular mentions go to the Activities Co-Ordinator, the on-site
manager, and the lady who distributes the refreshments. Also, fellow visitor - the hairdresser.

My mom was looked after at Marion House for her final days. Mom was given 24-hour care. Special thanks to the staff.
Mom was looked after in her last days which helped us not only with the transition of having to come to terms with Mom going into a home, which she never wanted to, enabling us to feel
comfortable with this as we knew this was our only option.

My mom moved in under Covid restrictions, which wasn't ideal, as she was scared to make such a huge move without her family by her side.
However, the staff were incredibly kind and supportive and made her transition as easy as possible. Special thanks to staff who held her hand in the early days,
when family weren't allowed to.
Since the very first day, the staff have been amazing. They work incredibly hard, to ensure that every aspect of my mom's life runs smoothly.
The staff treat my mom more like a friend, rather than a resident, she is so happy.
This is so comforting and reassuring for her family, we need not worry about a thing, as we know that my mom is receiving the best care. As she lives in an extremely happy environment and she loves her cosy room.
The home itself is well-equipped, spotlessly clean and very welcoming.
We can't possibly put into words, the level of gratitude we feel towards the staff of Marion House.

My mom is on end-of-life care. Her care is excellent, I can go home knowing she is being looked after and in good hands. She has dementia which is horrendous for us seeing her suffer so need to know she is safe. They always let me know how she is doing and any problems I have they help any way they
can.

The home is lovely, the room that my mum has is homely. We are allowed to put pictures on the wall and bring items that are special to my mum. We are always greeted by a friendly face and are allowed to pop in at any time.
The nurses are fully qualified and administer any medication. We are kept informed
of changes to our mum, whether it’s her health or if they are concerned about her well-being. The home is not the biggest, which is one of the reasons I like it. It is more personal and the staff have time to stop and talk to you.
The staff know my mum really well which is comforting for our family.
If I raise any concern it is dealt with immediately which is reassuring.

Absolutely lovely nursing home. My mom is having ‘end of life’ care and she is so well looked after with lovely staff. Nothing is too much trouble. They look after her as if she was a member of their own family.

In the time my sister has luckily spent at Marian House she has received wonderful care. The staff have looked after her in a most loving and sympathetic manner they have also treated her family and friends excellently. I would recommend them wholeheartedly to anyone.

I find most of the staff pleasant and helpful. They work very hard and I know the home can be short-staffed. I feel the cleaning could be to a better standard. There seems to be an issue with the wrong clothes being worn at times.

My husband became a resident of Marian House Nursing Home in September 2022 and passed away in February 2023. He arrived suffering from advanced Alzheimer's, presenting quite a care challenge. I was full of hope because the building was light, the staff welcoming and the residents were alert because
they were included in all that was going on around them. Over the following six months, I was never disappointed. The patience, care and love shown to all residents came from the top and spread out through the whole team. The home is really clean, the food is plentiful, home-cooked and delicious. The laundry is well organized and activities inspired. Meetings are held for relatives both to share changes and to invite feedback.
Looking for a care home that will suit your loved one is difficult and visits often just showcase facilities. Standards of care are more difficult to judge. Marian House Nursing Home is one of the best and I thank the whole team for the care that gave me peace of mind and gratitude.

I would highly recommend Marian House Nursing Home. Mum moved into the home in April 2022 where she resided until she passed away in January 2023. Mum had struggled in her previous home but we saw her come to life when she joined residents and staff at Marian House. Her self confidence increased, she
was encouraged to exercise, enjoyed her hobby of bird watching and other very meaningful activities. The garden is lovely and Mum was actively encouraged to engage in outdoor activities. As a retired Occupational Therapist who has a particular interest in older adult care, in particular dementia care, I observed staff uphold my mum's dignity, acknowledging her lived experience of dementia. When Mum left notes to the milkman outside her bedroom door listing all the household items she needed for that week she was supported by staff to preserve her special identity, to remember the busy mum and primary school teacher she had once been. Staff were always very supportive to us.

My aunt had been a resident of Marian House for over two years until she passed away a few days ago. The care she received was on the whole very good, for many staff it was a vocation not just a job who were excellent and very patient. If problems arose, which over a two year period were inevitable,
I would go straight to the manager who would act immediately and find a solution to rectify the situation. My aunt was treated with respect and as an adult, she was allowed to make her own decisions and given choices with her care. I can't say her care was always excellent but I don't think this is the case in any residential facility but the management team always encouraged feedback both positive and negative to help improve things. I would like to thank in particular four members of staff for always making myself and my aunt welcome and for going above and beyond for my aunt's welfare. A special thanks goes out to the hostess who was simply exceptional.

I am very happy with the quality of care given to my mother, the nursing staff are excellent and are always caring and treat her with dignity and kindness. All the staff are excellent and the tea lady and cleaner always have a cheerful outlook when they are with her.
The management team are very approachable
and will always offer help if required.
The staff are always busy. I would like to be able to chat through my mother's updated situation a little more but this is being resolved by the patients care records being available via wifi soon.
I would recommend this centre to anyone who has a relative who requires nursing care.

I am passionate about leading the team to deliver high-quality care, ensuring the residents can live well in a safe, kind, and respectful environment that will enable independence and enhance the enjoyment of all we have to offer. I believe that families and friends are key to helping us ensure we do the best for the residents.


I am a registered nurse (RGN) of 20 years in a variety of specialists such as acute and emergency medicine, and for the last 9 years have been working in large residential and nursing homes in England, Scotland, and Wales.


I enjoy outdoor activities such as skiing, football, and reading. I’m also a Wolves season ticket holder for my sins.

I am highly experienced in the Residential, Dementia, and Nursing care settings. I have been a nurse for 38 years.


My career started off in the NHS and then progressed to the private sector where I have worked for 20 years ensuring the highest standards of person-centred care for those living in the service and supporting my teams within their roles.


I joined Marian House in 2023, it is a privilege to take care of People's loved ones and treat each individual as I would my family.
I love that each day brings a new challenge and new experiences. Learning from previous experiences is paramount to achieve the best outcomes going forward. The care our residents receive is an area I feel very passionate about.


Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my 3 children and 6 grandchildren, enjoy watching rugby and socialising with my friends and family.

I have been a qualified nurse for 8 years and I joined Marian House in 2021 as a Nurse. I progressed into my Clinical Lead Role in 2023.


I am very passionate about ensuring our residents receive person-centred care and love being able to make a difference in our residents' lives, spending time listening and talking to them.


Part of my role is the responsibility for Medication Management, a field that I am equally enthusiastic about, as this is an imperative part of us delivering the excellent and safe care we pride ourselves on.

Sarah Monkman

Job Title: Lead Activities Coordinator

Joined: 2021

I joined this great team in April 2021 as a care assistant, progressing to Senior Carer later that year. I took the role of Lead Activity Coordination in March 2024 after helping out with activities and finding that I loved the job and wanted to do it permanently.


Before joining Marian House, I worked as a Care Coordinator for a domiciliary care company as well as a dispenser in a pharmacy. I worked at both for several years before deciding to move over to nursing care.


I have found a passion for End-of-life care as well as Dignity in care. I have done a lot of training on these subjects which aids me in providing this care for the residents here at Marian House. I have just qualified in my NVQ Level 4 in Lead Adult Care, which I am very proud of. I love my job and thoroughly enjoy bringing joy and smiles to the resident's faces and lives, as well as coming up with new ideas and finding entertainment groups for the home.


Outside of work, my husband and I and our dog spend a lot of time outside, whether it be in the garden, gardening and looking after our pond, or going out for walks around our local Park. I enjoy playing the guitar, and my dad and I have regular jamming sessions, to our neighbour's dismay.
