The care Mum receives is excellent. After 4 months in Reminisce Mum looks so much better. The food is excellent, lots of activities and outings a couple of times a week. Dementia residents are encouraged to join in activities downstairs as well and Mum loves the singer/music they have each week.
The whole building is spacious and welcoming and feels like home from home with traditional comfortable furnishings and carpets rather than being too modern and clinical. Nothing is too much trouble and they are adaptable and flexible. I am encouraged to phone or visit whenever I like and can take Mum on outings anytime. A lot of Reminisce staff seem to have been there a good few years and tell me they view residents as 'family'. They are experienced, kind, caring and compassionate and seem to have endless patience and reassurance. Not only the Reminisce staff - the administrative staff also are very supportive and take an active interest.

Our sister/sister-in-law has been at Sunrise of Edgbaston for 9 months. We are delighted with the care she receives. The staff are kind, courteous and patient with her. They understand her condition of vascular dementia and treat her accordingly. She has integrated well because of the care and friendliness
she receives. We are more than satisfied with everything.

It was difficult to find a suitable home from home for my cousin who had lived in a beautiful flat with her mother. After her mother's death, we searched and searched finding every place totally unsuitable.
Then we were told about Sunrise Edgbaston. I had no expectations this time as we looked around
but after a tour plus a long conversation with the wonderful manager and head of nursing I knew it was just right, especially as there was no smell as we entered the hallway which we had found in other homes we looked at. My cousin was hard to sway but after a visit and meeting with the manager and nurse, she signed the documents.
Sunrise has been amazing the care, nursing friendliness and food have been faultless. The staff go out of their way to care and spend time listening to my cousin never in a hurry or brush her off. Every concern is shared with me by a phone call and my calls are always returned.
My cousin has improved since entering the home, her demeanour is good.

Whenever I visit, I am always welcomed by the concierge who knows where my relative is. The cafe area is very good and allows us to sit and talk whilst not interrupting any activity in the lounge or disturb other residents watching TV. I have been impressed with the number of staff always moving about,
they all acknowledge my relative by first name and any questions I have, had have been answered or referred to someone else who has answered them.
The restaurant is always bright and well set out for dinner, putting some hotels to shame but giving the residents the feeling of being in a restaurant, not a school dinner hall. The menu is always available on the table and well set out. Staff are available to help if residents have difficulty eating.
The room is very smart, modern and private.
I think Sunrise Edgbaston was an excellent choice for my relative as she receives the care she needs to get throughout the day.

My mother moved to the Reminiscence Unit at Sunrise of Edgbaston on January 3rd 2017. This followed the sudden closure of the care home she was in. It is still early days but so far we are so pleased with the welcome we have all had from the staff, who are unfailingly cheerful, polite and reassuring.
The Dementia Community Relations dealt with the clerical and financial side of things efficiently and everything seemed to go really smoothly.
It is such a relief that all the staff on the Reminiscence Unit are trained in dementia care and they are so quiet and gentle with the residents. The unit is calm and peaceful and every effort is made to maintain the dignity of the residents. My mother is starting to settle in her new surroundings and we feel confident that she will be well cared for.
Our aim for her is that she will be "contented" and we think this may be achievable at Sunrise.

Frequent complaints to the management with regards to the laundry service have resulted in little or no action. There is a definite lack of communication with the management and carers. The carers do their best they can. There is no liaison with the care home and family regarding mothers care and what
is happening to her. Mother appears to pay an extortionate amount of money to either sit in her wheelchair asleep or be on "Bed Rest" asleep, she has not been outside of the home since she has been here two years except when family take her to hospital appointments.

It took my parent a couple of days to settle in, but by the end of the two week respite, my parents were looked after wonderfully. They had put on weight, more talkative and generally full of life. It was a pleasure to pick them up. We will be using Sunrise again. The girls were fantastic.

Good homely surrounding. My only criticism would be not enough staff seem to be around on Saturdays. A long time waiting around to be taken to toilet and to room from dining room, on one occasion recently no alarm call bell on her, it was accidentally sent to laundry on an item of clothing and a replacement
wasn't available for several hours. This is bad practice. Your staff work very hard but need extra support.

Five of us visited our friend to celebrate her birthday, although deteriorating with dementia she is well cared for with kindness and dignity. We had lunch with her which was excellent and very good value for money. The only negative aspect which has happened before is that at the change over of staff
period (2-2:20ish), there was a very long wait for the resident to be taken to the toilet which distressed her.

Kim-Marie Newton Newton

Job Title: General Manager

I have almost 20 years experience of working in health and social care. I’ve worked for the Care Quality Commission, and as a Care Coordinator, Home Support Officer and General Manager. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Health & Social Care and have a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management. I am a dementia pioneer and a mentor in mental health.


Prior to joining Metchley Manor, I was a regional support manager for a large care provider covering residential dementia, general nursing, palliative care and younger adults with enduring mental health.


I’m passionate about putting residents at the heart of everything we do here at Metchley Manor. For me, it’s all about person-centred care and ensuring every day is special for each person we care for.


I feel very privileged to be able to share my experience with such a great team and to lead the way in delivering exceptional service to residents and their families.
