Last June, after a short stay in hospital my dear mom was sent to "Uplands" for 4-6 weeks respite care. When the time came for her to decide where to go, she said, "I think I've found my new home". She then enjoyed a very happy stay until her unfortunate passing in January 2019.
Whilst looking slightly
jaded in some areas (currently undergoing modernisation), the new parts of the home are excellent, with large modern rooms and all facilities.
What really makes "Uplands" stand out is the staff. They are totally devoted to the well being of the residents, with no job or request being too small. There is genuine care, and, dare I say it, love for the people they look after. The job they do, sometimes very difficult with all manner of different disabilities (I have seen it for myself) is totally beyond reproach. It's not a house that makes a home, but people and the staff at "Uplands" certainly make the place feel like home for their residents.

My father has been in Uplands for just over a week. I have seen a caring environment with carers who are friendly, professional and competent. So far so good. I chose this care home because I liked that it was small, the staff ratio is good. It is not a modern place but it is welcoming and when I see
other visitors I can see they feel comfortable to be there. My dad has settled in well, he is engaging with staff and they are taking good care of him.

I have had lots of dealings with my dad's carers who used to come to his house so I can see the quality of the carers at Uplands is very good. I also liked that many of the staff have been employed for many years which means that they enjoy their job and the environment. Many carers leave the profession after a short time so it is good to see staff retention.

The food looks good, my dad is very fussy but they offer him lots of choice. We can take the dog to see him and they have a PAT dog come occasionally.

I can only compliment the staff at this care home. It may not be the poshest I looked at but the standard of care received by my father who had severe dementia was outstanding. I can't praise them enough. I would also like to thank them for everything they did for my father while he was a resident
there.
