Friendly caring staff but sometimes too busy to respond during busy times.

Reply from HC-One, Careline Team at Ashgrove Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. We really value the feedback provided by those who use our services. We are pleased that you have found the staff at Ashgrove both kind and caring, as a home we aim to give the kindest care and I will inform the staff of your positive comments. As you have correctly pointed out there are times when the home can be rather busy, the staffing numbers on the unit have recently been increased, you will now visibly see more care staff around the home. We are also currently in the process of introducing volunteers who will assist our regular staff during busier periods such as meal times. We believe this combination will improve staff availability and reduce the likelihood of any Resident having to wait an unacceptable amount of time to have their care needs met.
We are committed to providing Residents with the high quality, kind care they deserve.
Thanking you again for taking the time to provide really helpful feedback about the home. We value all feedback and ensure it is recorded and acted upon.

Excellent care of my mum in respite after a hospital stay. Attentive and friendly staff, really made my mum feel welcome. Also liked how visitors felt accepted and respected. It felt like the staff couldn't do enough for you. I would recommend Ashgrove.

My experience of Ashgrove Care Home (The Coppice) was one where I felt my mother in law was being cared for in a loving, kindly way. As her dementia progressed to a state where she was bedridden and could no longer do anything for herself. The staff treated her to the very best of their ability. She
was kept clean and the bed linen changed regularly. He room was clean and although my mother in law could no longer communicate with us she was always peaceful when we visited the home. They always made us feel welcome.

My mother has had deteriorating health over the past few weeks. This has led to today, when sadly she passed away. The care and compassion over particulary this last week, has been excellent. The care staff, both day and night and nursing have been fantastic. The dignity that they have shown my mother
and support they have given me is overwhelming. I cannot thank them enough. My mother has had 4 years living at the home and I can honestly say in her own way she has been happy, content and well cared for, despite being short staffed for the dependency of residents.

Ashgrove Care Home are very caring, especially the carers. They really looked after my Mum. She went in the home 7th January and passed away 20th March. She fought really hard. We went every day to see her and you become like a little family. I would recommend the home to others.

My mother was admitted to Ashgrove for respite care, having neglected herself. The care she received led to her feeling well, being well nourished, and she enjoyed the company of a few residents. As a relative, I was welcomed and able to talk about my mother's needs, care and progress. I was pleased
she improved.
I did notice her hair was cared for by the hairdresser and podiatry needs addressed. My worries were for the level of hand hygiene residents are encouraged to reach, because my mother's nails looked dirty at each visit (only 4 since I live away). I worry vision, dental, auditory care/assessments limited. I worry staff limit their attention to some dementia residents, however my mother being easy to care for was always respected.

I find the home very good. Office and staff very good in all aspects of their work. Make you welcome and keep me informed in my wife's stay there and any incidents if and when they happen. I am happy that my wife is in this home and being looked after well.

Current Review Score: 7.9 (7.921)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.9 (7.921) out of 10 for Ashgrove Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.833 for Ashgrove Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (10 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.833

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.088 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashgrove Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.4 = 0.088

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
