The caring staff are a credit to absolute health care. They haved nursed patients throughout the pandemic, there is a warm family atmosphere and the management team are approachable and professional. I have seen first-hand the warm caring attitude of the staff, and the home provides good, wholesome
well balanced meals. Well done to the team, I hope to visit again soon.

All the staff can't do enough for the patients. We are always welcomed with a smile. The nurses are always helpful if we need to ask anything. The rooms are always kept clean. The patients are very well looked after. I couldn't ask for a better home for my brother to be in. We find it an exceptional
place and would highly recommend it.

As a relative unable to visit their parent throughout the Covid pandemic, I have been overjoyed at the person-centered approach offered to my dad, especially in relation to activities. The staff have sought to get to know my Dad, to find out about his hobbies and interests. They risk assessed his abilities
and provided relevant and appropriate activities to stimulate his interests. I have felt reassured seeing photographs on the Facebook relatives page of Dad doing what he loves best and fully encouraged to do so. Whether that be helping with decorating, supporting to build garden furniture, helping to hang pictures or helping to put out bird feeders, Dad has loved it and thrives because of it. When Dad entered full-time care we envisaged him sitting in his room all day lonely, isolated, and being encouraged to take part in activities in which she had no interest such as jigsaws or board games. Thank you to the wonderful staff who are helping my Dad to still live well, despite dementia.

My Dad was only at The Gables for a few months before sadly passing away. The staff were amazing with him, calm and caring every day. In his final days, they were supportive and respectful to my dad as well as the family that visited him and those who were with him at the end. I can’t thank them enough
for all they have done.

My father was a resident at The Gables Nursing Home, Oldbury, West Midlands for 3 years. Since Absolute Care Homes took over, the standards have risen remarkably. Unfortunately, my fathers condition deteriorated and he died in early 2019. The staff are excellent, they are friendly, caring and professional.
My father was very happy in the home and it was a pleasure to go there. I can’t recommend The Gables enough.

It is a difficult task for a family to quickly trust a care provider for the care of an ill parent. After viewing a number of homes we found comfort in The Gables philosophy of care and the assurances of maintaining the highest quality of life for residents. We are grateful for the guidance and honest
approach from the Gables staff (from carers to senior management), especially during sensitive issues. All staff have dealt with my Father's dementia and challenging behaviours by providing an individual and considered plan, patience and understanding. We are provided with regular communication about my father's condition, future care and feedback from medical appointments.

This is a lovely care home. I have been visiting since February 2018.

The management are experienced, very caring and approachable. The staff, with 1 or 2 exceptions, live up to the name "Carer ".

I am always made to feel welcome before I walk through the front door, no matter what time it

is. Everyone is friendly and cheerful.

My mom has been in the home since December 2017 in the dementia unit.
Mom is well looked after and I always feel that she is safe. Despite challenging behaviours staff are very caring and put a lot of effort into building rapport.
Improvements to the building fabric are ongoing but seem to make slow
progress. Memory boxes outside rooms have been started but not completed.
The biggest positive is the attitude of the staff who are always welcoming, friendly and attentive. This applies to nursing staff and care assistants. Management are approachable and responsive to requests for information or assistance.
I do feel however that more could be done to provide activities to engage the residents and hold their interest. There’s often little to do for them. More use of outside help would be a start. E.g singer, exercise coordination, outside walk in the local park etc. Perhaps some of the challenging behaviours would be addressed if residents were occupied for at least part of the day.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.952)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.952) out of 10 for The Gables Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.301 for The Gables Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 103 Ratings = 4.301

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.651 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Gables Nursing Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.4 = 0.851

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
