The care at The Royal Star & Garter Home is second to none. All staff are extremely friendly and make my relative feel part of a family.

Every aspect of the care my mother has received in the past 3 years has been exemplary. The carers on her wing are friendly, respectful, cheerful, polite and provide all the care she needs efficiently and well. The physiotherapy has been extremely beneficial.

Total nursing and service care for my father is exceptional and without a doubt has extended his life. He has bonded well with many of the volunteers and staff who enjoy his company as much as he does theirs. They engage well with him and he responds accordingly.

The home is a home in every sense. The residents are treated with the utmost respect. Everyone from the cleaning staff to the senior nurses is forever cheerful and welcoming. The other day a resident was sitting on his own and at least 3 members of staff who could have walked by stopped and spoke to
him. My mother is in the best place.

My mother (who is the oldest resident at the home) came to Star and Garter when she was '95'. The family were delighted with the choice of home for her and she settled very well. The care is exemplary, the staff very thoughtful in their caring and every aspect of her life there is commendable. She's
now '101'!!

I cannot imagine a safer, more caring and happy environment for my mother after a prolonged hospital stay prevented her returning to her own home. Beyond the first class medical and dietary provision, together with excellent and extremely well-maintained facilities, the wellbeing of the residents is
clearly foremost in the minds of all staff - in whichever part of the home they are working. Within her wing, Mum is directly looked after by a consistent team of care assistants and other staff who have got to know her well. They are always cheerful, kind and understanding and always go the extra mile to keep her contented. After a visit, I leave feeling she is in the best of hands.

Before coming to Royal Star and Garter Mum had spent 3 months in hospital and 4 months in a residential home. When Mum arrived at the Royal Star and Garter is was the first time our family could relax and not worry about her. We know all her needs are met and with genuine care and concern and that she
is safe. All the activities and fun created in the home is outstanding and the care to detail and getting the residents involved is overwhelming.

This home is the second I have lived in and by far the best. The home is open to military personnel and their spouses so there is good community spirit.
We have regular outings in the wheelchair, accessible charity owned bus. My favourites being shopping trips, meals out and theatre trips which sometimes
my family accompany me on. We have monthly residents meetings to air our views to the team and get the lowdown on upcoming events. Our rooms are comfortable with hoist track from the bedroom to bathroom and staff always knock before entering. The carers get to know us and our interests. I love chatting to them and during crosswords. They are like my extended family.

Staff were extremely welcoming of Mum and ourselves. Both day and night staff were skilful and kind to a very high degree.
Nursing staff were particularly thoughtful regarding Mum's individual needs and maintained a happy and positive atmosphere.
The standard of the living environment inside and outside
was extremely high.
We are very grateful and cannot speak highly enough of the care that was extended to both Mum and ourselves as a family.

I looked at many homes until I found The Royal Star & Garter Home. It is by far better than any others I looked at.
From the facilities, activities to the amazing staff - The Royal Star & Garter exceeded our expectations.
My father has been there 18 months mow and is extremely well cared for.
The
staff are wonderful and so kind and caring.
My father moved to the dementia wing a few months ago as his dementia progressed.
It is comforting knowing he didn't have to move homes and that the dementia team are so well trained.

It is very difficult to compare The Royal Star & Garter with other homes as it is so obviously outstanding - this is obviously so in the dementia wing, where my wife has been a resident for six years.
My daughter and I are so glad that we were able to obtain a place for her, taking into account my
military service.
It is such a relief to know that she is so well looked after when I became unable to cope by myself.

My father was in this home in 2013 and my mother in law is currently here.
This home is so different to any care home I have ever been in, the residents are treated with such respect, love and dignity by very dedicated people.
The residents are really well looked after and seem very happy, which
is so important. The home is extremely clean and well maintained and they provide stimulating Dementia care in the specialist Dementia unit which has won them an award.

My husband living with advanced vascular dementia has been resident at The Royal Star & Garter Home for over two and a half years. Throughout that time he has been professionally cared for with great insight, understanding, warmth and humour. His emotional well being and contentment have always been
the top priority of his care plan, although of course his physical needs have also been carefully addressed. Family and other visitors have always been welcomed so we and staff all work together as an extended family team.

Katie McCauley

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2024

I qualified as an adult nurse in 2013 and specialised in Cardiology and High Dependency care at Solihull Hospital. I then went on to manage a local care home for three years before I had the pleasure of joining Star & Garter – Solihull, in June 2024.


I am extremely passionate about leading the team to provide gold-standard care for our residents, enabling them to provide person-centred, individualised care. I have a special interest in diversity and inclusion and keep up to date with the most recent research to support both the residents and staff. I have an excellent relationship with the local community, including adult health and social care, churches and schools to widen the access to and delivery of multiple well-being activities for the Home.
