Newstead House is a home split into three households with both residential and nursing care. Staff focus on providing a warm welcoming environment, along with a high degree of professionalism as evidenced by their Gold Standard Award in palliative care, and one of their nurses being awarded in 2023 the palliative nurse of the year in the Great British Care Awards.

Nursing and care teams, led by an experienced home manager, work together to ensure residents lead a better quality of life by receiving high levels of care, stimulation and social interaction which improves their health and overall wellbeing.

The home has a number of lounges and dining areas and a coffee lounge, where residents enjoy time with friends and family, along with a secluded garden, which won an award in 2018 with Herefordshire in Bloom. It has close links with the local community and being so close to the centre of Hereford means residents can enjoy regular trips to the shops and other attractions.

Whatever type of care residents require, it will be bespoke to personal requirements. Residents and their families regularly praise Newstead for the caring and warm atmosphere in the home, and Newstead encourages you to come and try it for yourself.

I am delighted with my excellent care and the variety of creative activities that are offered to me. Food is very good with roast meals on Sundays and Wednesdays. I like that I can choose what I would like to eat. My room is beautiful and I have the most wonderful views over the hills into Wales where
I come from. The staff are so welcoming and I can talk to them about anything.

My mother-in-law has been a resident at Newstead House Nursing and Residential Home since February 2020. She found it hard to settle having been very independent. The staff have patiently helped her to adjust and, having made some special friends, she has become a happy contented lady. She has nothing
but praise for the staff who are more like friends than carers. At 96 her memory is fading and she can't always remember the names of individuals but they all call her by her Christian name and take time to chat and ensure she has everything she needs or wants. This is a clean and happy place where smiles are plentiful. We attended the Jubilee Garden party. Residents were walked or wheeled outside to sit around the table laden with goodies. The ladies looked wonderful in their homemade fascinators and the gentlemen proudly wore their Union Flag hats. Bunting was hung around the gardens and adorned the building too. They worked hard during Covid and continue to do so to keep everyone safe. It's a special place.

Newstead in Hereford is a very welcoming nursing and residential home, my Mum suffers from dementia and is bedbound. Mum has been a resident here since March 2022, the management and care staff are excellent and friendly, and even the cleaning staff take time out to talk to my Mum. The food is excellent
as well. I would recommend anyone to take a look at Newstead if you are looking for a Nursing or Residential Home.

Mum has Dementia and prior to her admittance to Newstead House Nursing and Residential Home in January 21 she was very lonely (partly due to Covid 19), extremely anxious and stressed.
It was a huge decision to make but we have never looked back! Mum’s health and wellbeing has been restored, she participates
in all the daily activities which are both well planned and stimulating. She has been able to retain her independence and enjoy the freedom of the outdoors and looks the picture of health.
The photographs online speak a thousand words, as we can see in that moment Mum really enjoying herself and always has the biggest smile. This is so reassuring for my family to see Mum so happy and healthy.
The outcome for Mum would not have been possible without the care, compassion and dedication of the management and staff at Newstead. I really can’t thank them enough.
Finally, when I mention the meals at Newstead Mum always says “they’re good”!

My mother went into Newstead House when her Dementia became too severe for my father to look after her at home. As they did not want to be separated, the Home was able to offer them a lovely double room until my father died 18 months ago. My mother then moved into a single room but was still able to
have her personal possessions around her. The care shown by the staff was outstanding, even taking my mother to visit my father in hospital when he broke his hip. When my mother became bedbound, she was still kept clean and tidy with the respect we would all hope for. In her final hours, I was constantly kept updated, as I live quite a distance away and a priest was called to administer the Last Rites, as she would have wanted. I cannot praise the care given too highly!

Our relationship with Newstead House began 7 years ago when my father, by then in his 90's with Parkinson's disease and other age-related health issues, needed 24-hour care and nursing support. From the outset, Newstead was like home from home. My father received the very best of care but more importantly
the respect of all concerned. This extended to family members and when visiting (which was never, before Covid, restricted to certain times) the same friendly, approachable but professional atmosphere prevailed. My mother, to whom Dad was married for more than 70 years, always felt reassured that, if she could no longer care for him, he was in the very best hands. So much so that when Dad passed away and she herself, by then aged 94, needed the same support, she had no hesitation in choosing to go to Newstead, where she felt most comfortable and she was given the same level of exceptional and loving care from everyone involved and I cannot thank the staff highly enough.

It took time for Mum to adapt to her new environment but with the professional care, sensitive and gentle encouragement, she has begun to settle. Mum loves the food and is constantly telling me how kind and friendly the staff are. The various activities have now begun again, after a break due to lockdown,
and she takes part in the ones she likes. With the current situation thrust upon them, the staff at Newstead have taken (what some would consider) almost extreme measures to avoid Covid entering the care home and subsequently endangering the lives of so many vulnerable residents. Whilst my Mum cannot quite understand why she only gets to see me a couple of times a month, I assure her that it is for her safety as much as anyone and that nobody should be put at any kind of risk. I know that Newstead is the right place for Mum to be and, to all the wonderful staff there, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping my precious Mum as happy as possible but, most of all safe.

Over this difficult period covering the COVID-19 pandemic, Newstead House staff and management have been excellent. Heritage Manor stopped visits to their care home before the national requirement as they had identified the risks to their residents. This was carefully explained to relatives and offers
of how to keep in touch were made. On enquiring about staff access to PPE and other support I was very reassured that they were fully committed to keeping both themselves and residents safe. Staff have been very understanding of relative’s anxieties and provided excellent care over this period. I know my mother is not only cared for very well but has been given the love and attention she needed while I have not been able to visit. My heartfelt thanks go to all the staff, there is no way to adequately thank them for their self-sacrifice in continuing to do their jobs.

My Mother lived at Newstead Nursing Home for a few months of this year and the care she received was outstanding. We’d like to make a special mention of the deputy manager who was extremely professional, compassionate, patient and thoughtful in her delivery of care to my mother. We’d definitely recommend
this care home to any potential residents as it’s clean, comfortable, spacious and safe. Every member of staff was exceptional in their roles.

Difficult to find words to describe the home. The standards in all departments are of course excellent but it is that little extra that makes such a huge difference. Seeing the staff in action you realise that extra something is invariably there, it is many many small ways that the staff show their
concern for their resident in a manner that seems completely natural to them. I do find it very difficult to highlight specifics because all aspects of Newstead must and do function as a unit and in doing so achieve their aim to provide a home for residents and long may that continue. Hats off to all Newstead staff.

Personal view of care provider very positive. Both for residential and nursing provision. Senior and assistant nursing staff always friendly, polite and cooperative. Entertainment and activities organised weekly, also Summer Garden Fete in July and Christmas Carol Services in December. Very grateful
for palliative nursing care on behalf of my aunt who died (aged 101) on 9th January 2020.

I have been a volunteer at Newstead House for a number of months now. It is a lovely home with friendly and professional staff.
It does not feel like a care home and it has a lovely atmosphere, very calm and peaceful. The residents are well cared for, and there is a lot of fun and laughter in the
home. The home is well maintained, with some lovely communal spaces. I really enjoy my time at the home and look forward to visiting each week.

Since my next of kin was brought in on respite care, it has given myself and the family great peace of mind and also he is receiving the very best care he deserves which he was not receiving in the community.
