Newstead House is a home split into three households with both residential and nursing care. Staff focus on providing a warm welcoming environment, along with a high degree of professionalism as evidenced by their Gold Standard Award in palliative care, and one of their nurses being awarded in 2023 the palliative nurse of the year in the Great British Care Awards.

Nursing and care teams, led by an experienced home manager, work together to ensure residents lead a better quality of life by receiving high levels of care, stimulation and social interaction which improves their health and overall wellbeing.

The home has a number of lounges and dining areas and a coffee lounge, where residents enjoy time with friends and family, along with a secluded garden, which won an award in 2018 with Herefordshire in Bloom. It has close links with the local community and being so close to the centre of Hereford means residents can enjoy regular trips to the shops and other attractions.

Whatever type of care residents require, it will be bespoke to personal requirements. Residents and their families regularly praise Newstead for the caring and warm atmosphere in the home, and Newstead encourages you to come and try it for yourself.

From October 2018 until February when dad was a resident, everyone was so wonderful and understanding of his complex needs.
He was treated with dignity and respect at all times.
Although all the staff/management were amazing, there are a few, in particular, that stand out with me when visiting. Thanks
really to everyone though.

My mother has been a resident for the last 6 months and considers this 'her home'. The staff are very kind and caring and professional. Mum is always tidy and her personal hygiene well attended to. The last month has been full of great Christmas activities led by the excellent activity coordinator.
Our extended family that were with her over the festive season were most impressed by the care home and staff.

For a few months my mum was very well cared for, comfortable and happy here. It was a great comfort that whenever I visited she always spoke about how much she liked both the place and the staff.
The whole experience was very personal. Everyone knew me and my mum and knew exactly how she was feeling
and her medical condition. Above all, everyone really cared. Communication was outstanding and nursing care was superb and very adaptable to her changing needs.
One other small but important factor was that it never smelt like a care home.

My wife has been a resident patient for a year. During that time, my appreciation of the nursing care has grown week by week. The premises are clean, bright and cheerful and constantly maintained to a high order. All the staff are caring, kind, cheerful and friendly. All the residents, to my knowledge,

Newstead House and all of the staff, from Manager through to Cleaner were outstanding. As a nurse myself, I was looking for a high standard of care for my Mum. Everyone gave their all, treating Mum with such care, always protecting her dignity and striving to do the best in every situation. My Mum needed
end of life care, which was given with love and diplomacy. I will not forget their kindness and professionalism. Thank you everyone.

The staff are amazing, friendly, caring and supporting not only to the patients but the family. It gives me peace of mind to

My father-in-law has a terminal condition and he has been in hospital and other homes. But he has been in increasing distress during his last six months or so.
Since my father-in-law was admitted to Newstead House, he has perked up considerably, notwithstanding his condition.
There is a lovely atmosphere
as soon as you walk through the door. All staff and medics are lovely. I think they are making his last few weeks as good as they can be.

From initial assessment onwards my aunt and all friends and family have been treated exceptionally well, we could not find fault in any way. Although Newstead House isn't purpose built and not the most stylish the staff show nothing but kindness and always find time to chat and assist with advice when
needed. My aunt is especially enjoying the lovely food served.

Newstead House Nursing and Residential Home is very welcoming and staff are approachable. However, I have found it difficult to get to know regular staff due to numerous agency staff being on duty. I think continuity is very important and that residents get to know the staff.
Activities could be better
but you have a very enthusiastic member of staff who has lots of ideas to take forward. He has lots of ideas.

Management, nursing staff and carers all excellent. Nothing phases them. Will do anything to help. Would highly recommend to anyone else. Management etc are so caring and sympathetic, will sort any problem out. My partner cannot write or speak after a stroke which left him paralysed down right side.
Management, nurses and carers understand him which is nice. I can go home at night knowing he is well looked after.

My 95-year-old mother spent 3 weeks in respite at Newstead in January to try and build herself up after becoming very unwell. The kindness and care shown to her by all the staff, without exception, was outstanding. I know that if it became necessary for my mother to move to a nursing home Newstead is
somewhere that she would feel happy and secure.

I regularly visit my mother in the care home and at no time have had any cause for concern.
I always feel that she is well cared for and treated with dignity.
My only minor concern is a security issue, it may be possible for someone to enter the premises unchallenged and gain access to the residents.

I cannot praise the home enough for the care they have given to my husband. It was difficult to find a placement for him but the manager agreed to accept him. He is very happy there and when we visit him are always greeted by any member of staff we see on the way to his room.

The staff are all very professional and friendly towards the residents. Nothing is too much trouble and it is always possible to speak to one of the staff when necessary.
The home is a very caring environment and the events that are organised are helpful in stimulating the residents.

So you read so many things about homes ..and let's face it ,it's very hard before you choose one ..in this case for my father.


Yes read reviews ..get a tour ..ask around ...wander round the building ..scrutinise the website and the quality report ..meet the person in charge .. review the costs etc

..but hey you never know.


It..isn't set in glorious woodland ...it's not isolated..but goodness ..beauty here is more than skin deep.


If the culture of a place is set top down, well the manager must be doing something right ..in fact more than right.


My dad died this week ..he was there 5 months ..very very poorly ..not an easy patient ..but the level of care ..the attitude ...the nursing expertise ...the sensitivity ...the quality/attitude of everyone I met ..the cleanliness ..the devotion ..the thought ..the feeling it left me with ...they didn't need to do that ..go that far ..be that diligent and caring, but they were and in the final days ..exceptional..just writing this makes me cry .

Although Mum was only a resident for a short while, from the first meeting with the manager we were sure that she would be well cared for. I particularly loved the fact that she was referred to as a person and not a number or statistic. She was always treated with dignity and respect and the staff,

My father entered this establishment as a palliative patient. I am a palliative care nurse in the north east, so extremely aware of how patients should be nursed and treated in the last days of their lives. I found no fault with my fathers care what so ever. He died extremely peacefully and received
the care I have seen in a hospice. I visited the home at many different times of the day and night over a week and found staff sitting with dad, carrying out care. Always aware of his current condition. To the Manager and the staff there, thank you so very very much.
