Astley Hall was acquired by a small local group, Heritage Manor, in May 2012 and underwent an internal refurbishment of the Grade II listed building and its gardens. The most recent refurbishment of the lounge and dining areas was in 2024.

Set in a country house with wonderful views out over the valley, Astley Hall provides nursing and residential care, and there is a dedicated part of the building to look after those people with dementia.

The team provides homely care which promotes independence at every opportunity, in accordance with the aims of the Worcestershire dementia standard for care; this is care that does not impede upon residents' chances of building a satisfying day-to-day lifestyle, in a calm and welcoming social atmosphere.

The chef at Astley Hall has just won the best chef award at The Great British Care Awards for the West Midlands 2024 and now goes through to the National Awards. A senior carer was also a finalist at The Great British Care Awards for the West Midlands 2024 in the carer category.

Many activities and hobbies are available for occupants to enjoy, and the concerns of loved ones and relatives are taken seriously. Alternative health professionals are regularly consulted over personal developments.

The nursing team have a range of specialisms, from learning disability through to dementia and other associated mental health conditions.

Obviously, in these times I was really happy to see the staff taking temperature readings for anyone that entered the premises, and I immediately noticed the amount of protective safety equipment and sanitiser stations on every level and it was great to see all the staff in masks. I wasn’t sure what
to expect as I’ve not spent much time in any care homes, but I was really impressed. I found the manager, and the rest of the staff extremely caring and sincere, and I briefly spoke to the manager and he told me they were about to do some engagement activities with the residents, and that they often do, I was really pleased to hear this as my grandmother is a resident and I was so pleased to see the actual manager and some of the staff involved whilst I was visiting, it made me feel extremely happy for my grandmother and I really wanted to let other people know. Keep up the fantastic work everyone here.

Mum came to Astley in a very frail and depleted state. With excellent care, though, she actually rallied surprisingly well for some weeks. The availability of staff to talk to us if we had concerns made a difficult situation much easier than it could have been. We were always very impressed by the commitment
to make her life as comfortable as possible, catering for her particular culinary tastes and encouraging her to eat and drink, trying to try to lift her morale, encouraging her to take part in activities when she felt able, or just sitting and talking to her if she didn’t. Seeing for ourselves the way that their priority was to keep Mum free of pain and distress in the inevitable final stage I know is going to be a massive comfort in the weeks ahead. When Mum finally slipped peacefully away in late September, we felt so cared for ourselves by the staff. With heart-felt thanks to all the team for all you did for Mum and for us.

Astley Hall is a beautiful house in a beautiful setting, with cheerful, calm, caring staff. Nothing was too much trouble and they made mum's time there comfortable, happy and memorable. No one could have given mum better care. Bless you and thank you.

My partner was only at Astley for just under two weeks after being in 2 hospitals. Due to COVID-19, we couldn't visit at Astley, but my partner was very happy there. On our video chat, she told me the care, staff and food was very good, and she likes the view from the window. Nothing was too much for
the nurses or carers. When she passed away (not COVID-19), the whole team were very supportive to us as a family (sent sympathy card) and can't thank Astley enough. I would have like to put excellent for everything, but due to COVID-19, and Astley keeping residents/staff safe, was unable to see for myself.

The staff and management are very compassionate and truly are what carers should be; friendly and compassionate. My friend was well taken care of with all his complex nursing care being met. The food was great, and I was invited to stay for lunch one day that I visited. The rooms were clean, and they
took extra care for my friends woollen jumpers, making sure they did not shrink. There were lots of things to do, and my friend really enjoyed the back garden; we would often sit out in the garden for a visit. If I wanted to know if he needed anything; all I would have to do is ask, the management would sit and chat over my concerns. All in all, a very nice place to be.

Although my mother was only at Astley Hall for 10 days because her condition deteriorated rapidly and she sadly died, all the staff looked after her with care and compassion, not only for mum but also for me. I was very happy to leave her in their care.

Thank you to all of the staff at Astley Hall for looking after mum so well in her final 3-months of life. She was cared for with love and dignity even though she was unable to do anything for herself. Carers and nurses always spoke to her gently about any treatment they needed to administer to make
sure that she understood what was being done. She was kept clean and warm at all times. Staff sat with her when she was frightened or distressed so that she never felt alone. She was protected and kept safe throughout the Covid-19 shutdown, and staff maintained extremely high professional safeguarding standards.
They took great care of us (her family) to make sure that we felt supported and were well informed. Any changes in treatment or her condition were reported as soon as possible, and permissions were gained if needed.
Grateful thanks to everyone at Astley throughout a very emotionally challenging time for us all. You were a beacon of light in the darkness.

My mother was admitted to Astley Hall in April 2020. She was in a very poorly state both physically and emotionally. Due to the Covid 19 restrictions, we have been unable to visit her in person. However, all of the team have done an excellent job to ensure she is well cared for and to support our family
with regular updates and arranging skype calls with her so we are able to stay in touch during these difficult times. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the team, no matter how busy they are and they always go above and beyond. As I have not yet been inside the home, it is not really possible to rate some of the facilities/services, so I have rated these as good at this stage. But based on the care Mom is receiving and the wonderful dedicated care team, I cannot fault it and would highly recommend it. My mother has also said how wonderful the staff are and that she is happy at Astley Hall which is the most important thing, so we are delighted.

I couldn't have asked for a better place as a final chapter for my mother's life, I just wish it had happened sooner and longer.
The care was fantastic, activities on a daily basis, her nails done, hair done. Staff are very respectful and caring and attentive to my mother's needs. Lovely room with
a lovely view. I couldn't have asked for more. Simply fantastic. Thank you all.

Found home welcoming to service users and visitors. Activities for service users so important for stimulation, music playing is a memory jerker and music and movement. Drinks encouraged, good to see. Cleaners do their very best to keep odours at bay. Carers very friendly and kind. Menu excellent. Service
users treated with respect. Doors knocked before entry. Senior staff kept me updated on service users settling in and behaviour. Photos and homely touches in room so important. Laundry and housekeeping good.

My mum had severe dementia and joined the residents at Astley Hall in March 2018, having been transferred from a care home following a broken hip. She soon settled and I can honestly say, the last 18 months of her life were exceptional. The standard of care was very good, the food excellent and the
activities absolutely brilliant. Sadly Mum’s health started to deteriorate and she passed away at the beginning of January. Words can’t describe the love, care and support given to Mum and family during that time and the genuine sadness felt by the staff.
So, thank you to all the staff. You are all exceptional.

What an amazing place. Stopped in to see my aunt whilst passing through. The staff here are absolutely incredible. The manager was so chatty and couldn't have made me feel more welcome. You can tell they all enjoy their work. Very relaxed atmosphere too with plenty of things to keep the residents occupied.
Thoroughly enjoyed my visit there and my aunt certainly seems to enjoy being there. Keep up the good work.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.559)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.559) out of 10 for Astley Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.926 for Astley Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (87 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.926

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.633 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Astley Hall Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.833

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
