The care shown to my Aunt in her last few weeks of life was wonderful. All the staff showed so much compassion to us as a family taking time to make sure we were okay. Thanks to Henwick Grange, my Aunt passed away peacefully and with dignity. We are truly grateful.

Thank you so much for such a great review. We strive to make sure our care home feels like a home away from home to our residents and we are happy to read your kind words. It was a pleasure to have your Aunt at our care home.

Level of care too variable. Lots of promises not delivered. Can't even provide brown bread or cream crackers to residents. Family provided items that have gone missing, clothes, food etc.

Thank you for taking the time to leave the review. We would like to assure you that we strive to consistently deliver the best possible quality care. We provide the residents with a wide variety of foods, which includes safe and basic foods such as brown bread but we also go above and beyond to cater to individuals' requirements and are more than happy to provide cream crackers upon request. We believe that we have never received this sort of request from you or your relative. According to our records, your relative is in direct contact with the social worker and the feedback they receive is that they are very happy with the care provided. If you would like to discuss this further please don't hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards,
Henwick Grange Nursing Home.

Dad has always received a good standard of care at Henwick Grange. More recently, extra focus has been given to his needs which has resulted in a positive change in his well being. He has also moved to a larger room, now on the ground floor, which was newly decorated for him. It means he now has better
access to a lovely lounge and garden area. A programme of re-decoration in the building is another positive step. Dad is always happy with the food. Staff at every level are always friendly, throughout covid lockdown we have been able to communicate via phone or facetime. We have maintained contact with management throughout, whenever needed. We congratulate everyone at Henwick for keeping all the residents safe throughout a dreadful time.

My father spent less than 24hrs here following discharge from hospital (the home of their choosing). He fell during the night and I had to ring for an ambulance when I arrived at 7.30am to find him laying on the bed with a cut to his head and a suspected broken arm.

Both my mum and dad are being cared for at Henwick Grange, both having nursing needs and Dementia. We are very impressed with the standard of care and attention they are getting. Staff work 1-1 with both of them, they both love the food and are very happy. Their well-being has improved since being there.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.365)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.365) out of 10 for Henwick Grange Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.229 for Henwick Grange Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (44 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.229

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.136 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Henwick Grange Nursing Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 56 registered maximum number of service users is 11.2. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.2 = 0.536

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
