My mother spent only a short time here before her sad death. In that time I could not fault any aspect of the care, it was outstanding in every aspect.

In Mum's last two days I was there almost constantly. The respect and concern shown for me was also highly professional and greatly appreciated.

My experience of Briar Hill House was exceptional. My mother-in-law was only there for three weeks until she passed away. But the staff could not have been kinder, totally professional, empathetic and yet with wonderful humour. They made our last few weeks more bearable and could not have done more
for us or my mother-in-law. Simply a wonderful place perfect in every way. We only wish we had come there earlier. Thank you to all at Brier Hill from the bottom of our hearts. I simply could not recommend this more highly. The wonderful staff are its making.

We would like to express our heartfelt and personal thanks to ALL the staff for the care, attention and support that they afforded our Brother- in- law, and to us and any other visitor to the home.

When visiting it was plain to see that the staff were devoted and committed to providing the highest

standard of care possible, often way beyond their job description or conditioned hours.

It was also plain to see that my Brother-in-law was as comfortable as he could possibly be, for which we are indebted to you for.

Without doubt or consideration, we would instantly recommend Briar Hill to any of our friends or relatives, because we have experienced the best care possible.
It is difficult to find the words to adequately express/communicate our deepest thanks to you ALL for caring for our Brother-in-law!

My husband was a resident at Briar Hill nursing home for four years and I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the staff for the care and support that was given to him and our family.

From the moment he was admitted we felt he had joined another family such was the welcome, warmth and generosity

that was shown, not only to him but to myself and family. Every single member of staff has shown and demonstrated outstanding care and devotion in their duties.

My husband was in a PVS. The standard of care and support he received was exemplary, never wavering or faltering, nothing was too much trouble, he was treated with compassion, dignity, thoughtfulness and extreme professionalism.

The staff continually performed well above and beyond that of their stipulated duties showing and demonstration exceptional attention to detail. I am sure no other care home could have delivered a better care package.

I have and will always recommend Briar Hill as the best home if anyone should need one.

My mother was admitted to Brian Hill House in February 2015 following a stay in Hospital. Mom suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as well as the onset of dementia. She was admitted under the NHS continuing care programme and palliative care with a life expectancy of only up to 6 months.
After three years mom eventually passed away in March 2018. In those three years, mom received exceptional care which in my opinion and those close to her extended her life beyond expectancy. The care given which included excellent nursing skills, and care by attentive compassionate carers, a nutritious diet and excellent food, prepared on the premises by a team of quality cooks. A five star nursing home without doubt.

Briar Hill is a warm, welcoming, friendly home where nothing is too much trouble. For nearly 6yrs they took great care of my mother-in-law who suffered from vascular dementia and Parkinsons. Over the years she deteriorated and was unable to communicate but the staff still involved her in well-organised
activities. I will always be grateful for the support they gave our family and how they always treated my mother-in-law with respect.

When I first knew my mum needed to go into a care home I felt scared and frightened when mum went into Briar Hill House. I had no worries it was like going into a five-star hotel. My mum and us as a family were welcomed it was a second home. We always shared our Sunday lunch with her. I want to say
what a fab care home, staff and nursing staff are 100% loving and kind.

Excellent home and care from staff. I have already recommended Briar Hill to friends who have a relative with complex needs. The care is inclusive for family and when we had any questions we were listened to and our concerns addressed. There were always trained staff on hand who were very approachable.
Activities were age appropriate, open to all but not forced on anyone who did not want to attend.

Briar Hill is a model of what a good home should be. I recently moved my father from another home and have been very impressed with the care and attention he received. All staff have taken time to get to know him and engage him in conversation. They demonstrate a real interest in him which he is
very much appreciating. his medical needs are being very quickly addressed and sorting them out is obviously a high priority. Many of the staff are long serving and that is evident in the positive, happy atmosphere that pervades the home. The management of the home is excellent and the total focus on his physical and mental well-being is comforting and refreshing to experience. My father has become much more positive in his outlook. We can ask no more of a home.

My Mother has lived at Briar Hill for just over a week now. On arrival from her previous nursing home, she was quite poorly. Considering the staff had never met her before, they handled the situation with understanding, professionalism and compassion.
The high level of assessment in the first few
hours led to my mother having her needs met properly and being more comfortable straight away.
The whole staff have been so kind and caring to her. She has been able to do things she has been unable to do for many years, such as sitting with other residents to eat her meals and be able to sit and look at the television in the evenings. The environment is superb and the level of care outstanding. It feels like a home, not a Care Home. I am really happy that my mother is living there.

My mother was at Briar Hill House for end of life care and was only there for a few weeks before she passed away.
The care she received in his time was exemplary from the moment she arrived she was treated with complete consideration and dignity.
All of the staff were most thoughtful and helpful to
the family whenever we were there and we are truly grateful that mum was able to be looked after so considerably.
Thank goodness we found Briar Hill House.

I have been visiting my friend (we were college mates in 1960-63) since 2007 when he became a resident of Briar Hill. Always, I am made welcome and always the staff are friendly, courteous, caring with an optimistic and positive approach.

My pal is very content. He was a very active sports person

until his stroke. He has no close family in the UK and I am relieved to see him in such caring hands. I an convinced this home has been his salvation. If I were similarly incapacitated, I would wish to be here.

Reply from Anne Palmer, Home Manager at Briar Hill House

Looking for a nursing home with these priorities?
Caring, friendly staff who have time for residents because they aren't overstretched; residents treated with dignity, medical needs met through on-site professionals; a clean, bright, stimulating environment which is safe and secure, a variety of activities
offered regularly and nourishing, good quality food
If these are your criteria then look at Briar Hill House in Rugeley.
My mother has lived there since September. Before this, we researched 20 care homes and Briar Hill House was top of our list. Luckily, a room became available and was offered to my mother. Now we continue to be impressed by the dedication of all the staff. Their willingness to ensure that my mother's needs are met is first class and she speaks well of everyone.
The decision to place a relative in a care home is stressful but we are relieved to have found Briar Hill House. We cannot recommend it highly enough - it sets the gold standard to which others should aspire.

My mother has been a resident at Briar Hill nursing home for 19 months now, following a severe stroke. The level of care she receives from all the staff is wonderful and they all work extremely hard for all residents. The cost of the care is not the cheapest around, however, after viewing other care
homes in the area, the cost is reflective in accommodation, care and facilities provided. The home also takes time to provide social activities on regular days throughout each month - all are welcome too. Myself, other members of our family and mums visitors are made to feel welcome and any of our occasional queries are answered satisfactorily.

I feel very comfortable here. I appreciate the welcome given to my visitors and the way they are looked after. We are treated as an individual and muy preferences are catered for - even providing little treats when I express a liking for something. I enjoy the entertainment we have from time to time.
I enjoy it a lot. I find all my food delicious and plentiful. I appreciate the events put on by the chaplain and the personal visits I get. I like it that I can express my Christian faith here. I like the visits by the music therapist. It is a very happy time. The arm-chair aerobics are good too.

Finding Briar Hill when mom had to be taken into residence was a very rewarding experience. So much press comment about homes makes one worry of where to entrust the care of a loved one. Very professional and caring initial assessment of mom whilst she was in hospital plus a visit to Briar Hill convinced
the family that we had found the right residence for mom.

Briar Hill is a very warm and welcoming place. Bright, clean and modern. The staff are very very very caring and helpful to both the residents and family members. I no longer have to worry about mom's environment. It is unfortunate that mom is too poorly to appreciate what Briar Hill is giving her. Thank you all for your care.

Just returned from visiting my mother who has been a resident of Briar Hill House for almost a year now. I really cannot fault this establishment in terms of staff, accommodation and most importantly the care of my mother. Since she moved there; as a family, we have always been met with a professional,
caring and cheerful face. My mum is also very impressed with the accommodation, care and of course meals.
Social interaction is very important and each month a list of events is given to each resident and something is happening every day.
I would highly recommend this nursing home to anyone seeking accommodation in the Lichfield / Rugeley area.

My mother was a resident here from June 2013 and passed away in September 2016, the care she received was absolutely fantastic. She was very happy at Briar Hill, which was very comforting for the family knowing this, as the decision for us to let her go into full-time care was a difficult one. Our minds
were put at ease with the wonderful care she received from the day she went in, until the day she passed away. We will be forever grateful and would recommend Briar Hill to anyone looking for full-time care for a member of their family.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.694)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.694) out of 10 for Briar Hill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.894 for Briar Hill House is calculated as follows: ( (85 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.894

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Briar Hill House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
