My mother had a short stay (3 weeks) at Briar Hill prior to her passing away. I can only say that the care she received from all the staff was exemplary. The staff are a very special team, what more can I say. Thank you.

My father has been a resident here for many years, and throughout this time the standard of care he has received has been nothing short of excellent. Due to the complicated nature of his condition, many other care homes had been unable to accommodate him, but the staff at Briar Hill have managed to
look after him well and prevent his condition from deteriorating, in spite of challenging circumstances.

Although our association with Briar Hill House was brief - from our first telephone conversations with management through to the day my father passed away, we were completely at ease and knew we had made the right decision for my father to make his home there. The care was so professional but despite
being so ill he felt comfortable in his surroundings and settled very quickly. Throughout his stay the level of care was never compromised and extended to myself and my husband on our daily visit. This we drew comfort from and I never had any concerns about leaving my father throughout the night. He would often say, 'they are all so kind here.'
I would not hesitate in recommending Briar Hill House for its efficiency, care, professionalism, food, facilities - well just about everything.
It is one of the hardest things I have had to do in my life to find nursing care for my beloved Dad and a decision I hoped I would never have to make on his behalf. But we were truly lucky the day I made that first contact with Briar Hill House.

Thank you for your lovely review of the care and support your Dad received at Briar Hill. I appreciate how difficult it is to place a loved one into nursing care and I am so pleased that it was a positive experience for you and your Dad. It is always a privilege to be able to care for people and I will be sure to share your comments with the team at Briar Hill.

My mum came to Briar Hill in April 2015 following a long stay in hospital. After 10 years of caring for her at home the decision that my mum would require 24 nursing care was made. It was a very difficult time but we could not have found anywhere better for her to be cared for. She settled in very quickly
and the wonderful care given to her by the team of Carers and nurses is second to none, they really are a most dedicated, caring and special group of people. To visit my mum, who has in more recent years been a very anxious lady and now see how relaxed she looks is lovely, the time I spend with my mum is now quality time without having to deal with lots of worries and concerns that troubled her whilst at home and in hospital. She is living in a very safe and secure environment. The home has an extremely happy and friendly atmosphere, there are lots of activities for residents to take part in should they feel up to them and this ranges from music, exercise and pet therapy to visits from musical entertainers, visits from various animals (miniature pony, birds of prey to name a couple). The pictures taken of residents at these visits with smiling faces just shows how they enjoy them. Meals are always varied and there is always a good choice for the residents. The whole team at Briar Hill from the management, nurses, Carers and all support staff are superb, so a very big thank you for all you do on a day to day basis, keep it up.

My uncle came for a few months to Briar Hill and in that short time his care was next to none. The carers went far and beyond to us as relatives giving 100% care to my uncle and beyond. The home is definitely the best one for miles. If ever I need a home in the future this would be the one that I would
want to stay in. thanks from the bottom of my heart to Briar Hill staff and management for the care of my uncle, true professionals.

Dad suffered from Vascular Dementia and came to Briarhill in July 2012. This was a desperate time for us but the staff at Briarhill were always comforting, caring and helped us with the transition that became a major part of our lives. Not only did they care for Dad but for us all as a family and we
became part of their family. Dad lost his battle this October and the treatment that he got at Briarhill was second to none and I could not thank them or praise them enough for their kindness, care and integrity. When choosing somewhere for your most loved ones to live you have to look around at the whole picture, the life they will have there and the care they will continue to receive when you can't be with them. Briarhill gave us everything we needed.

After several weeks deteriorating in NHS care it was decided to look for a nursing home closer to the family. A detailed tour of the very modern and immaculate building at Briar Hill Nursing home including kitchen, laundry and residents’ lounges as well as the available rooms, which were clean and overlooking
the gardens, convinced us this was a place the staff were proud of and that she would receive the best possible nursing care.

Since being admitted in June, the dedicated and professional staff have nursed her back to the person she was before being admitted to hospital, the love and affection they demonstrate every day to their residents can be clearly seen on any visit day or night.
More recently my mother celebrated her 100th birthday at Briar Hill House, the wonderful MHA staff catered for an afternoon tea party for 40 guests, providing the food, non-alcoholic wine and even a beautiful birthday cake. The cooperation and willingness of all the staff involved to ensure that the party went off well was well beyond ‘the extra mile’ and the family cannot thank them enough for their efforts.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.694)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.694) out of 10 for Briar Hill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.894 for Briar Hill House is calculated as follows: ( (85 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.894

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Briar Hill House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
