Mum has spent several weeks at Hoar Cross Nursing Home previously as a respite resident. We as a family decided at 90 she was no longer safe to live alone at home. Hoar Cross is now her permanent home - the home is brilliant! The staff (all of them) are amazing, caring and extremely kind. Mum is treated
with dignity and respect. I can sleep at night knowing she is safe and very well cared for.

I wish to thank all the staff at Hoar Cross Nursing Home for taking care of my brother-in-law during the last few weeks of his life, he was cared for with great kindness and made to feel at home. The staff made me feel welcome always while I was visiting. I say again, many thanks.

Very pleased with the care provided for my mum over the last 4-years. Mum has thrived since she arrived here from the hospital. All the staff, carers, nurses, admin and management show great patience with residents and are very supportive of new residents, taking time to help them settle in. All the
staff made a real fuss of my parents when they celebrated a very special wedding anniversary in 2019, asking to invite The Burton Mail to do a story on their many years together. The staff stepped in when relatives were not allowed into the home, or only allowed pod visits or Skype video calls during the pandemic and developed a stronger bond with the residents. The staff are very approachable and take the time to talk to relatives, answering any questions and listening to any concerns.

Mum has dementia. Mum is well cared for and the staff are able to make her smile. They have fond names for her and she seems familiar and content with them all. A very special team of staff. Hoar Cross Nursing Home is in a beautiful setting and pre-Covid-19 we used to drive out to the local garden centre.
Weather permitting, we can get outside, enjoy the countryside, see the sheep and walk up to the church. Pre Covid-19 I would have found it easier to mark the star rating as I was inside the home more and able to interact with everyone. I now don’t see the food or take part in activities or interact with as many staff. Regarding rooms, I have put satisfactory as Mum’s room could do with a lick of paint.

Excellent staff in terms of friendliness, especially the day to day manager.
Nurses keep me informed
Mum happy at home.
Staff shortage an issue as with most homes so activities perhaps limited.
Covid has caused immense harm with restricted visitation.
Beautiful views and gardens happy friendly

My father moved to Hoar Cross Nursing Home in August 2021. As a nurse myself, I had looked at many different nursing homes and I have found this one to be excellent and far better than the rest I saw. All the staff at Hoar Cross have impressed me with their caring attitude and respect for residents.
They have been very supportive and understanding of my father’s needs and they have adapted his care as his needs have increased. I would have no reservations in recommending Hoar Cross.

The communal spaces are light and airy and spacious.

The home environment, staff and facilities are comfortable and welcoming. The care standards and comfort of the residents is paramount, and witnesses always on visits. They are all respectful and patient with the residents. My mother is happy there, and we have peace of mind that her needs are met daily.

Mum was transferred to the nursing home just two days before lockdown. Despite having limited physical contact since then, we are very pleased with her adaption to her new environment. Her mental health has improved. She is eating better and she seems to get on well with all staff, unlike her regular
criticism of staff in her previous care home. The introduction of socially distanced 1-2-1 visits has enabled us to renew much-needed contact. Not telling her in advance of the first visit was a lovely touch. The look on her face was a picture! Overall we are very satisfied that we helped her make the difficult decision to move.

Choosing a nursing home for my father was difficult, but the staff made it as easy as possible. Now two years later I am delighted with the choice. On arrival, Dad was very, very poorly. He has thrived. Everyone is friendly and professional. The food is first class. Visitors are welcomed at any time
(pre-COVID). It is far from the cheapest home but you get what you pay for.

I would highly recommend Hoar Cross Nursing Home. My mother is being very well looked after there and has been for 2 years. The staff and nurses are so friendly to the residents and to their families and friends when they visit, they treat my mother with respect too. The food is excellent and they have
a very varied menu with good, old-fashioned food.

I have only been here for almost 4 months. Overall, I have found the facilities here to be very good, especially the various events, which have been excellent. However, there has been very long delays in pressing my 'buzzer' and getting a response and there has been a few occasions when I have been
asked to eat my breakfast while sitting up in bed which I find difficult and uncomfortable. But generally speaking, the staff here have been very kind and attentive, especially when my dear wife passed away. They were wonderful.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.309)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.309) out of 10 for Hoar Cross Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.5 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.765 for Hoar Cross Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (26 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 34 Ratings = 4.765

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.544 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hoar Cross Nursing Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.294

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
