This a very welcoming care home. You are greeted with nothing but kindness and smiles. Nothing is too much trouble everyone is so friendly. It is very evident that the carers and nurses really enjoy their jobs. I have really enjoyed my visits and my friend has been cared for by some really special people
who are angels in disguise. The home is always clean and tidy with beautiful flowers on display all around the home. It is so lovely to see people with real pride in how elderley people are cared for. This is a special place.

This is a very welcoming home. All the staff are very friendly and appear happy in their work. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The staff try to make it a home from home environment and I think they achieve this. It is a happy place and my husband and I are very pleased that our mum is here. She
is very contented knowing that she is well cared for.

Could employ more staff, as residents sometimes have to wait when wanting to use the toilet. Money sometimes spent on decorations for elderly patients, such as valentines and Halloween, which I'm sure not all are interested in.
The entertainment, such as singers are most welcome as are the quiz games.
Overall, I think you all do a wonderful job and my sister is looked after very well.

Reply from Mary Jekiel, Home Manager at Wheaton Aston Court

Thank you for your comments, we welcome all feedback that will help us continue to improve our care services. Many thanks for your kind words about the care for your sister; there are a few points raised however that I would like to try and pick up on.

At Wheaton Aston Court, we are staffed to a higher level than required. Unfortunately, there may be instances when residents have a short wait because we are supporting other residents with care needs, however, the team work very hard to ensure that this wait is minimal. We understand that this may be frustrating but we are striving to provide that individual personalised care that each one of our residents deserves and that may be changeable on a daily basis.

We have two wonderful Activities Coordinators who work hard at providing a programme of activities that support all of the residents in our care. We continue to receive very positive feedback regarding the wonderful displays that the team provide to involve our residents in the events that occur in the yearly calendar and they enjoy sharing these with their families. Not only have we included our residents in these events we have also raised funds for local charities in the way of raffles to support our local community.

If there is anything at all you would like to discuss further, I operate an open door policy and you are of course welcome anytime to continue this discussion on a personalised basis. Alternatively, you can contact customercare@brighterkind.com.

I feel that the home needs more care workers. The home staff are very helpful but they seem to be understaffed, I myself have noticed people getting stressed waiting for someone to take them to the toilet.

My mother arrived at Wheaton Aston in January 2016 a very frail tired elderly lady needing 24/7 care a very tired body but still an active mind and very much enjoying life with her family and friends. The first few weeks were difficult for all of us mum being and independent private lady and always
managed everyday life whatever came her way. It has taken her a while to accept support other than family but I am pleased to say she is more at peace and more accepting of her situation. She finds this part of her life very hard. Wheaton Aston has provided peace of mind that mum is safe and surrounded by very caring staff. The nature of the profession is never easy and nothing is perfect but with the support and understanding of each individual's needs. Working together certainly is a comfort to know our loved ones are treated with the dignity and respect they rightly deserve. It is a relief for me to know my mum is having the best care she rightly deserves and she is in a good environment with loving and caring and very special people nursing her.

The home is a single storey with easy access. The whole place is clean. There are no smells and it is generally quiet. Entertainment is provided. A vicar tends to spiritual needs. Most rooms have TVs, though no wifi. Food is good with a flexibility of diet. Overall one of the good care homes.

I have noticed a distinct improvement in hygiene, quality patient care and efficiency in the last months since the new manager was appointed. Her cheerful competency makes visiting much more pleasurable and care of the patients has been remarkably improved. There is a continuity of care now and all
the staff being aware of the exact details of each patient's current state of health. I can't fault the care.

Care staff are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble for them. Nurses and manager keep me informed with moms health also what they are doing. Always have time to talk to you. There is always something going on. Plenty of tea, coffee, cakes, chats and laughs. Will always have a laugh and chat with mom
and me.

My wife was admitted June 10th this year for palliative care and died June 23rd, the care can only be described as exceptional and compassionate. It made a very difficult time more bearable. My family wish to thank all of the staff for their kindness and support.

My mother has had a very high standard of care over the last two years. Staff have taken the trouble to get to know her as an individual and provide for her physical and social needs, with varied well-organised activities. The home is well run, well maintained and very clean. There is a happy and welcoming
atmosphere.

Having been here for just over 2 years, I have found the staff extremely helpful in their support, care and kindness. I think the carers, in particular, have a very difficult job dealing with all sorts of people and problems but always treat people with dignity. I have been very happy here and would
not like to move anywhere else at this stage. Staff always try to be cheerful, even under difficult circumstances.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.667)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.667) out of 10 for Wheaton Aston Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Wheaton Aston Court is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.667 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wheaton Aston Court is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.2 = 0.417

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
