It's been a very difficult time with the pandemic and to also have the added worry that my gran needed to move into a home was very stressful. She was initially in an assessment bed here but we quickly realised how well she was responding to both the care she was being given and the staff at the home
that we wanted her to stay.
We as a family have a brilliant relationship with the staff, nothing is too much trouble, we are kept well informed and they not only give my gran the support she needs, they give us the support we need to know she's safe and being well cared for. They listen to the residents' needs and requirements and are quick to respond and make changes that are important to support the residents' wellbeing. The staff are like an extension of our family. We have got to know many of them since my gran became a resident and you can see by how they interact with my gran how much they care for the residents here, they do an incredible job and are very dedicated.

Thank you so much for your kind words. We are incredibly proud of our staff team and how they have supported the residents through the terrible times in the last 12 months.

I will make sure that your feedback is shared with the home team and once again thank you.

We have always been very happy with the care our mum has received for many years now. The staff are caring and considerate of her needs. Mum has no communication and is physically impaired but the staff have respected this and take care of her in a professional but supportive manner. We can only praise
everyone, carers, cleaners, caterers and management for the way in which the care home has dealt with the pandemic. Mum was cared for throughout this awful time and we felt happy in the knowledge that she resided at The Old Vicarage, in the absence of family visits.

Sadly due to lockdown, I have had very limited physical access to the home, although I have had a weekly WhatsApp call to my mother. Under these circumstances, it is difficult to give a definitive review, but I have given my impressions based on what I have seen and previous visits.

Our 92 year old nan had been very ill and in and out of hospital with various illnesses last year. Due to covid, we were unable to visit Nan for such a long time, which broke her and our hearts. Nan was eventually referred to the Old Vicarage in December for rehabilitation in the hope of getting her
home for Christmas, only because of the due care and attention of the manager and all of her team this was made possible. They all did go above and beyond with the care our nan received. Nan and all our family would like to take this opportunity to thank the manager and her team at the Old Vicarage for making it possible for Nan to come home where she belongs and making our Christmas. Our family can never thank you enough.

Reply from Pauline Aydon, Home Manager at The Old Vicarage Nursing Home

Dear Michelle. Thank you for your kind words which will be shared with all of our team. It was a privilege to be able to care for your nan as part of her rehabilitation and help to get her home where she so dearly wanted to be, and worked so hard herself to be able to. Best wishes from everyone here at The Old Vicarage.

We've received a letter from the nursing home this morning asking us to leave a review, my fathers funeral is in two days. When he moved in two years ago, the home was well managed and the level of care was excellent. Despite the best efforts of a core team of care workers, who obviously care very much
for the residents, in recent months the level of care they are able to provide has been compromised by the poor, in-effective management. During the current manager's tenure, the focus has shifted from being a care-centred setting to what the bottom line on the P&L report says. Staffing levels have been reduced across the board and staff turnover has increased, which in my eyes makes it almost impossible to provide a consistently high level of care. I have to remind myself that when Dad moved in the home was a completely different environment to what it is now, I'd certainly explore other options if I had to make a similar decision now.

This man had very complex needs. His next of kin was his wife who loved him dearly and visited every day. The review has been written by his son who neither the home manager or myself had met and we have not heard from before. Whilst he was with us we always accommodated his wife and they shared several meals together, she particularly enjoyed Christmas lunch. We used to arrange a weekly trip to a local community centre to play bingo and socialise with people from outside of the home.
Yesterday we received flowers and a card from his wife. It said: “just want to say to you all my heartful thanks for the care, love, and friendship shown to my darling ********* while he was in your care. He had his special friends and you know who. Also many thanks for the love and friendship shown to myself and for your bravery shown in this very difficult time. Love to you all, take care. Love from ***** and *********”
We have not lost staff but we have had people isolating as per COVID guidelines.

I chose the nursing home for my father because of its very good reputation in the community where I live. As secretary of the local residents association I am aware of many issues within the community should they happen, and in the case of the "Old Vicarage" I can say that I have heard only good things
about the establishment.

Whilst my father resided at the home before his recent death, I can confirm that he received very good care from both management and nursing/care staff who ensured his needs were always met.
The home I found to be clean and fresh at all times, the food to be of a high standard, along with a laundry who made sure personal clothing was clean at all times.

I am sure that relatives who are looking for care for their loved ones would find the home to be of a high standard for a family member requiring nursing care.

We were very satisfied with the care my father received when he was with you. Apart from one or two exceptions, the staff were very friendly and professional and we were always dealt with courteously.
The home seems to have been recently refurbished and is immaculate. My only criticism is that a discharge
letter was not sent home with him.

Reply from Pauline Aydon, Home Manager at The Old Vicarage Nursing Home

Thank you for your lovely comments. I will share them with the rest of our team. We would not normally provide a discharge letter when a person goes home, as this would be the responsibility of the Track and Triage team and GP. That said, we will certainly look into the process to see if this is something we can contribute to in the future. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.610)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.610) out of 10 for The Old Vicarage Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.710 for The Old Vicarage Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (102 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 124 Ratings = 4.71

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old Vicarage Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
