Alveston Leys welcomes both long and short-term residential stays and offers a range of tailored care packages for complex nursing and personal care needs, including Parkinson’s, respite, convalescence and palliative care.

Situated near the village of Tiddington, the Georgian property boasts original features such as large windows and fireplaces and is set within pleasant grounds.

Accommodation offers recently refurbished, tastefully decorated rooms with a mix of single and double bedrooms as well as two self-contained living suites allowing for a more independent lifestyle. All rooms provide en-suite facilities and a 24 hour call system. Bedrooms are fully furnished to an extremely high standard, including; a bed, bedside table, wardrobe, chest of drawers, armchair, flat screen television and a telephone point.

A varied menu of nutritional and appetising meals are served daily.

Residents can enjoy a busy social program of events and activities including arts and crafts, exercises, quizzes and board games. All activities can be tailored to different levels of mobility allowing everyone to join in. There are regular visits to the home from a mobile library and entertainers.

My sister's outlook on life has improved already though she has been here only 4 weeks. I am very happy with the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. The home is very pleasant and I feel that coming here is a new start for my sister.

My parents have both been in the care home for the past five months. The staff have been outstanding in providing individualised care for both of them. This holistic, friendly and professional approach has given our family the opportunity to keep our parents together despite their different needs. My
dad was apprehensive about living in a care home, but due to the friendly family-like atmosphere of the home which is a credit to all the staff, he soon adapted. He enjoyed the company and companionship of his fellow residents, and the loving care and friendship of the carers. He enjoyed the different activities and particularly being out in the garden. It has been difficult not being able to visit recently but the staff have been outstanding in their support to us as a family. Dad has recently sadly passed away, which has been extremely difficult due to the restrictions, however the compassionate care, commitment and support Dad received has been outstanding, we can never thank you all enough.

My mother passed away recently, during the Covid 19 lockdown whilst in the care of the home. The care and nursing staff were fantastic, just lovely. They did everything in their power to make the last days and hours comfortable for her and extended every help they could for the family in the circumstances.
I don’t know what more they could have done. They were as upset by her passing as anyone and it was clear my Mum had enjoyed her final years in a very caring and loving environment.

This is a very friendly care home. My husband felt welcomed from the minute he entered until he left a week later (being on respite). Unfortunately, he resisted any of the activities on offer - of which there were many and varied. His room was very comfortable - he enjoyed the television - and the staff
were very attentive to all his needs.

My mother was a resident of Alveston Leys for several years. At first, she was on the residential side of the home, but in her last year, she was moved to the medical side. At all times, she received the best possible care, and if there were concerns; I was notified immediately. I cannot think of a
better place to spend your last days - the staff are friendly and professional, the food is excellent (a major point), the home is clean, warm and comfortable; What more could you want?

My mum, aged 90, moved in for nursing care back in November. The staff have been just wonderful. I think our family can be a bit annoying because we’re very close and there have been so many visitors for three months. But it never felt inconvenient. Always like home with beautiful staff who we have
become so close to. My mum has had the best care - caring but always hugely professional. Nothing has been too much trouble and I will never know how to repay Alveston Leys and Bupa. I would love to name everyone but there are too many. However, I think if you have an excellent manager you attract excellent staff. Thank you Alveston.

Alveston Leys has been extremely helpful through a difficult experience of finding a care home. As she has Aspergers Syndrome and is now 81 years old, recently (April this year) had a stroke - the after-effects needing nursing care, which have proved to be extremely successful. The nurses have been
very kind to my sister and more importantly have kept us informed of her needs and her progress - well done Alveston Leys.

My husband has been coming in for respite usually once a week every 5-6 weeks this year for nearly four years, the staff are welcoming and kind. The home is always clean and everyone is treated with respect, both residents and relatives. The staff endeavour to ensure all the individual needs are met
and they manage the whole variety of care needs well. The senior nurse management is also excellent.

My mum has Alzheimer's and comes for respite when we go away. She likes it very much and the staff always remember her (even if she doesn't remember them!) and are very good with her. It is a very happy and friendly home with activities for everyone, if they want to be involved, they don't have to join
in if they don't want to.

I could not have had kinder or more caring carers and I am very grateful to them all. Food quite good, I think the quality could be addressed. I am only in transit as it were and have been here a week. My room and bathroom have not been cleaned throughout, though seems nice, bright and clean throughout
I do feel my bathroom should have been seen to, if not every day, every other day and bedside table and floor at least twice in the week.

The care home is clean, smells clean and all staff are very helpful. A member of staff also takes extra time to inform me of any problems with my Mother every time the doctor has seen my Mother, therefore at every stage of my Mother's stay I am kept totally informed of any health problem that my Mother
might incur. The food is excellent, like being in a 5-star hotel. The staff are very kind, polite, considerate and cheerful. The different clubs that are offered are excellent with the various activities.

My wife and I are pleased and relieved that my parents are comfortable and well looked after at Alveston Leys. They have recently decided my father's health will not permit his return home so he is likely to spend the rest of his life with you. We are very grateful to all the staff for their warmth
and kindness to my parents. Our only concern is that there are occasions where there are not enough staff to deal with the urgent physical needs of residents. Given that, my parents are paying around £2000 per week for their care. BUPA needs to ensure adequate levels of staffing to maintain the excellent reputation of Alveston Leys.

Since coming to Alveston Leys mum has improved greatly. She is now happy and much more stable. Mainly due to the wonderful care she receives and the knowledge that she is in such a lovely care home. I am a registered nurse myself and know the expertise required to look after mum. Reading mums care plan
I was very impressed with the respect and level of attention mum receives every day. My mum was a nurse herself when she was younger and has always been a very strong and determined person. We greatly appreciate the fantastic care Alveston Leys provides for our wonderful mum. Thank you.

We welcome those in need of nursing, palliative and residential care, including specialist Huntington's and Parkinson's care. Our beautiful period building feels very homely, with original features. Our mature garden is wheelchair friendly. There are huge cedar trees, a gazebo, and outdoor seating with lots of summer flowers. Each room is well decorated, with its own en-suite bathroom and flat screen TV.

Sian Howse

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2022

I joined Bupa in April 2022 and so far, have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the company, leading the team at Alveston Leys.


I started my career in care as a housekeeper and have since developed my skills, working through a variety of roles until I became the Home Manager for Alveston. I really enjoy looking after and caring for others, as well as providing an open and honest environment. I thrive on the challenges that social care can often exhibit, as well as advocating for my team and residents. It has always been my goal to make a difference in a person’s life for the better, which I feel to be very important in the enhancement of our resident’s wellbeing.


I live with my husband and son just 30 minutes from the home and as a family, we enjoy all things football. I enjoy travelling to see how different cultures live and have a keen eye for a good book!

Job Title: Clinical Deputy Manager

I am a registered mental health nurse. I have worked in the health and Social care sector for 40 years. I started as a volunteer when I was 16 years old working in hospitals. Since training and qualifying in 1987, I have worked in acute psychiatry, complex mental health, and physical disabilities, to palliative care in the community. I have worked all roles within the setting, including a nurse, deputy manager, general manager, clinical specialist roles, and teaching foundation level up to FE level. Training and specialist knowledge; dementia care, complex mental health and I have completed palliative care and end-of-life care at a degree level, plus Teaching and assessing in clinical practice. I have a professional interest in residents' rights, mental capacity and person-centred care practices.

Job Title: Senior Sister

Joined: 2003

I moved to England in 2003 from Romania where I was a Theatre Nurse for 11 years. I joined as a Senior Carer and completed a return to practice course then I was promoted to Registered Nurse in 2009 and then Senior Sister in 2017.


I enjoy making a difference to our residents and their families and specialise in palliative and end of life care. Keeping our residents comfortable and happy is very important to me and my role is very rewarding.


At every opportunity i will attend training courses and conferences to continue to develop my skills and knowledge.


I live locally with my husband and 2 children and I enjoy walking, cycling, baking and always have a good book on the go.

Job Title: Trainee Nurse Associate

Joined: 2017

I began working in the care sector whilst I was sitting my A Levels. I started as a Health Care Assistant and I found all aspects of care very interesting but in particularly medication and palliative care. Whilst at university I continued to work as a Health Care Assistant and I was promoted to Senior Health Care Assistant. In 2017 I moved to Alveston Leys as a Bank Senior Care Assistant and got very involved with clinical skill. I continued to focus on the profession of care as opposed to teaching and eventually left my daytime role as a school teacher in order to focus solely on caring for others.


In 2022 I applied to The Nursing Associate Programme and was successful. I am now in my second year as a Trainee Nurse Associate with a few years to continue to progress as a Registered Nurse in the future. I thoroughly enjoy my role as no two days are the same. I love the atmosphere at our home and our residents all brighten up my day. I really enjoy supporting others to live a happy and healthy life, as well as leading the team by example. I have a keen interest in medication management and have recently become one of the Medication Champions for Alveston Leys.


I am an auntie to 3 children and they keep me busy out of work and I love watching sport.

I'm Janet, the receptionist here at Alveston Leys. I help and care for residents' families as they visit and assist residents with any daily requests, ensuring they're happy.


I live within walking distance to the home (weather permitting). I have one daughter who now lives in Bristol. In my spare time I love meeting up with her, going to the theatre, reading, keeping fit and socialising with my friends.

I have been working at Alveston Leys since 2014, firstly as a Customer Advisor, then later moved to the role of Administrator. I have had a few different Customer careers but working in Care and at Alveston Leys is where I feel “at home”. I love spending time with the residents when I can.
I live locally with my husband and daughter, who was a “lockdown baby”. I often bring her in to visit the residents which they both enjoy.

I have worked at Alveston Leys for 20 years. I moved to England in 2004 from Romania to join my wife. Prior to moving here, I was working as an engineer in a foundry. I started at Alveston Leys as a Kitchen Assistant, progressing to Assistant Chef, and 5 years ago I transferred to become the Maintenance Operator.


I enjoy working here as I like to help the residents fix things - even if it's just odd jobs around the home. I love chatting with residents and finding out about their lives.


I live locally to the home with my wife, Dani, and my 2 children. In my spare time I enjoy walking, cooking and watching a good movie!
