Alveston Leys welcomes both long and short-term residential stays and offers a range of tailored care packages for complex nursing and personal care needs, including Parkinson’s, respite, convalescence and palliative care.

Situated near the village of Tiddington, the Georgian property boasts original features such as large windows and fireplaces and is set within pleasant grounds.

Accommodation offers recently refurbished, tastefully decorated rooms with a mix of single and double bedrooms as well as two self-contained living suites allowing for a more independent lifestyle. All rooms provide en-suite facilities and a 24 hour call system. Bedrooms are fully furnished to an extremely high standard, including; a bed, bedside table, wardrobe, chest of drawers, armchair, flat screen television and a telephone point.

A varied menu of nutritional and appetising meals are served daily.

Residents can enjoy a busy social program of events and activities including arts and crafts, exercises, quizzes and board games. All activities can be tailored to different levels of mobility allowing everyone to join in. There are regular visits to the home from a mobile library and entertainers.

Mum had a very troubled time before going to Alveston Leys, but her condition has now stabilised and Mum is very settled. This is because of the wonderful nursing and care team at Alveston. Mum needs total care and I can see from the way Mum responds to staff that she is happy and comfortable in their
care.

My aunt is happy in the home, her only concern is the time taken to respond to calls, also the changing staff. She is very involved in their lives and families from whatever part of the world they are from and then they sadly move.

My mother has been a resident in Alveston Leys Care Home for nearly 9 years.
The care here is excellent; all my mother's needs have been met.
Firstly on the residential side, she enjoyed activities, the garden and contact with other people. Now on the nursing side, she is kept safe and comfortable.

Excellent first impression from desk staff - they used my sister's correct preferred name (quite unusual in hospitals). Everyone seemed very friendly, kind and helpful. Good level of care, pleasant rooms, beautiful garden. Very nice to be able to move around the building easily - codes to doors given
to us to make it easier - a great help. My sister enjoyed the meals she had. Poor or non-existent wifi which was a problem as we would have liked to have used it for communication with her.

My mother has been in the home since April. Whilst at first there were a few issues with Mother settling in, we are now extremely happy with the care that she receives. The staff who look after her on a daily basis are superb and her face lights up when they enter the room. On the odd occasion, the
care from the night time agency staff is not as good as the daytime staff but the manager is happy to discuss any concerns and responds accordingly. I feel she is safe, happy and well looked after and anyone who looks after her knows what she does or doesn’t like and treats her with respect and dignity. This home knows how to care.

My granny has been a resident of the home since April and every time I’ve visited she is happy and well looked after. She has a lovely, sunny room with lots of space which is good as we’re a big family! The care staff are lovely, they always talk to me as well as Granny.

My mother has been at Alveston Leys since April this year. We had some major issues with regard to her care when she first arrived, in particular, some very hurtful and inappropriate words being used by the agency staff towards her.
Over the last three months this has settled down and my mother has
been much happier.
Sadly I have spoken with her today and we are back where we started as someone overnight stood over her bed and said ‘ Xxxxx, you have to stop behaving like a child!’. How can this place be called a CARE home with comments like that coming from the staff? I have tried ringing the home to discuss this and cannot get through to anyone. Not impressed at all and very disappointed yet again with Alveston Leys.

I stayed in Alverton Leys Nursing Home on two separate occasions whilst I was recovering from a fall and a broken ankle. I was made very welcome and I enjoyed the rest, particularly in the second week when the routine was no longer new to me. The staff were very kind and always helpful. I also enjoyed
meeting some of the residents.

I was a resident of Alveston Leys for 11 days following bi-lateral hip surgery.
I received exceptional care during my stay.
The nursing care was excellent especially from the head carer and her wonderful team.
My recovery has been much better than anticipated due to the wonderful aftercare I received
at Alveston Leys.
I would recommend this care to anyone facing a similar operation.

My mother is very happy as a resident here. All the staff are very caring and keen to look after all the residents. The room is bright and regularly cleaned and the food very good.

Arriving at Alveston Leys, I was struck by the warmth and friendliness of the staff. The building and grounds are beautiful with a homely feel, rather than a sterile environment. My father spent the last 4 weeks of his life here and I could not have wished for a better place for him to be. He had a
lovely room, which was spotlessly clean with beautiful views. Whilst able, he enjoyed joining the activities and the staff went out of their way to make him feel welcome.


His end of life care was excellent. The nurses and carers treated my father with love and respect. It was the little touches that stood out and made me realise that it was so much more than a job to them, such as making sure my father had his photos close to him and his favourite radio station on. They also supported me kindly throughout. My father spent his last days pain-free, peaceful and surrounded by love. The kindness and support shown to my father and myself made a difficult time so much easier.

My stay at The Lodge was excellent for me as our bathroom was being re-fitted due to flooding through a burst pipe. I was very comfortable and well cared for. The food was good and the carers helpful. I enjoyed the prayer time too and my husband was able to visit me and sometimes stay for lunch.

My mum was discharged from hospital to Alveston Leys for end of life care. In the lead up to this, we had visited the home and had nothing but care and consideration for our situation and understanding of the difficult decision we were trying to make (mum only wanted to go home but that was not possible).
The staff were excellent during mum's 3-week stay, being kind and considerate of mum's situation but caring for me as well.


They were patient with me when I got upset, tolerant of me, always there and provided a hug when needed, as well as putting up with family taking shifts to sit with mum through her last 2 nights.


The staff were fabulous and made a difficult time that little bit better.

I fell and broke my hip which was replaced in hospital June 2nd. I am 86 and live alone, so it was necessary for my son to find me a safe, secure, well rated, local nursing home for me to convalesce. He selected 'Alveston Leys Care Home' after an initial visit. Although I initially encountered a few
minor problems, the management took immediate steps to meet my concerns, so the month stay was quite enjoyable. 'Alveston Leys Care Home' is a large 30 room catering to both residents and 'end-of-life patients'. Having been a manager in mass-production for many years, I was impressed by the well organised staff.

Our mum spent the last year of her life at Alveston Leys following a diagnosis of mixed dementia and suffering a hip fracture in a fall at home. She quickly came to consider it her home, and died there after a short final illness. I can honestly say that as a family we can't imagine a better service
than the one provided by Alveston Leys. In every aspect, from the comfortable but still elegant accommodation, the appetising meals, the daily activities, the thoughtful personal care, but most of all the sheer kindness and compassion of all the staff both to her and to us as her relatives, the experience was superlative and when the end came, we were given every possible support to make mum's passing as dignified and gentle as possible. When we needed to be left alone with her, we were, and when we needed help of any kind, it was instantly there. And I know that mum spent a happy spring and summer there enjoying the sunshine on the terrace and looking each day at the beautiful gardens. This level of care is actually beyond price and I very much hope that the wonderful staff receive the recognition and value as employees that they deserve.

We welcome those in need of nursing, palliative and residential care, including specialist Huntington's and Parkinson's care. Our beautiful period building feels very homely, with original features. Our mature garden is wheelchair friendly. There are huge cedar trees, a gazebo, and outdoor seating with lots of summer flowers. Each room is well decorated, with its own en-suite bathroom and flat screen TV.

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2022

I joined Bupa in April 2022 and so far, have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the company, leading the team at Alveston Leys.


I started my career in care as a housekeeper and have since developed my skills, working through a variety of roles until I became the Home Manager for Alveston. I really enjoy looking after and caring for others, as well as providing an open and honest environment. I thrive on the challenges that social care can often exhibit, as well as advocating for my team and residents. It has always been my goal to make a difference in a person’s life for the better, which I feel to be very important in the enhancement of our resident’s wellbeing.


I live with my husband and son just 30 minutes from the home and as a family, we enjoy all things football. I enjoy travelling to see how different cultures live and have a keen eye for a good book!

I am a registered mental health nurse. I have worked in the health and Social care sector for 40 years. I started as a volunteer when I was 16 years old working in hospitals. Since training and qualifying in 1987, I have worked in acute psychiatry, complex mental health, and physical disabilities, to palliative care in the community. I have worked all roles within the setting, including a nurse, deputy manager, general manager, clinical specialist roles, and teaching foundation level up to FE level. Training and specialist knowledge; dementia care, complex mental health and I have completed palliative care and end-of-life care at a degree level, plus Teaching and assessing in clinical practice. I have a professional interest in residents' rights, mental capacity and person-centred care practices.

I moved to England in 2003 from Romania where I was a Theatre Nurse for 11 years. I joined as a Senior Carer and completed a return to practice course then I was promoted to Registered Nurse in 2009 and then Senior Sister in 2017.


I enjoy making a difference to our residents and their families and specialise in palliative and end of life care. Keeping our residents comfortable and happy is very important to me and my role is very rewarding.


At every opportunity i will attend training courses and conferences to continue to develop my skills and knowledge.


I live locally with my husband and 2 children and I enjoy walking, cycling, baking and always have a good book on the go.

I began working in the care sector whilst I was sitting my A Levels. I started as a Health Care Assistant and I found all aspects of care very interesting but in particularly medication and palliative care. Whilst at university I continued to work as a Health Care Assistant and I was promoted to Senior Health Care Assistant. In 2017 I moved to Alveston Leys as a Bank Senior Care Assistant and got very involved with clinical skill. I continued to focus on the profession of care as opposed to teaching and eventually left my daytime role as a school teacher in order to focus solely on caring for others.


In 2022 I applied to The Nursing Associate Programme and was successful. I am now in my second year as a Trainee Nurse Associate with a few years to continue to progress as a Registered Nurse in the future. I thoroughly enjoy my role as no two days are the same. I love the atmosphere at our home and our residents all brighten up my day. I really enjoy supporting others to live a happy and healthy life, as well as leading the team by example. I have a keen interest in medication management and have recently become one of the Medication Champions for Alveston Leys.


I am an auntie to 3 children and they keep me busy out of work and I love watching sport.

I'm Janet, the receptionist here at Alveston Leys. I help and care for residents' families as they visit and assist residents with any daily requests, ensuring they're happy.


I live within walking distance to the home (weather permitting). I have one daughter who now lives in Bristol. In my spare time I love meeting up with her, going to the theatre, reading, keeping fit and socialising with my friends.

Hannah Matthews

Job Title: Administrator

I have been working at Alveston Leys since 2014, firstly as a Customer Advisor, then later moved to the role of Administrator. I have had a few different Customer careers but working in Care and at Alveston Leys is where I feel “at home”. I love spending time with the residents when I can.
I live locally with my husband and daughter, who was a “lockdown baby”. I often bring her in to visit the residents which they both enjoy.

Job Title: Senior Activity Coordinator

I have worked at Bupa for 12 years and have been at Alveston Leys for 2 years in my role of Activity Co-ordinator.


I love my job as an Activity Coordinator, especially being able to make a difference in the well-being of the residents.


I have a passion for films and food and enjoy keeping fit by playing squash and taking part in ultra-challenge charity walks.

Mark Brady

I have worked for in hospitality for 37 years. I enjoy working in care services as being able to talk to the residents and find out their likes and dislikes, and then providing this for them is great, as well as the team ethics here at Alveston Leys.


I am a father of 4 boys and we are all football mad! In my spare time I love spending it with them and doing anything football related.

Paul Tudor

Job Title: Maintenance Operator

I have worked at Alveston Leys for 20 years. I moved to England in 2004 from Romania to join my wife. Prior to moving here, I was working as an engineer in a foundry. I started at Alveston Leys as a Kitchen Assistant, progressing to Assistant Chef, and 5 years ago I transferred to become the Maintenance Operator.


I enjoy working here as I like to help the residents fix things - even if it's just odd jobs around the home. I love chatting with residents and finding out about their lives.


I live locally to the home with my wife, Dani, and my 2 children. In my spare time I enjoy walking, cooking and watching a good movie!

I started working at Bupa 3 years ago. Previous to this role, I have experience working in hospitality and admin. I enjoy working in care services as I love knowing I'm helping those who require the support.


I live at home with my daughter. In my spare time I enjoy yoga classes, and anything related to psychology & criminology!
