My husband was in a poor state of health after coming out of the hospital. Lost weight, was very distressed. After good care management, medicine and food, he started to improve. He enjoyed the gardens and space when weather appropriate and we were able to take him for a stroll. He was in Cow Lees for
3 years and was content and happy. I visited at least twice a week at different times. The staff answered all my questions and looked after him very well. Thank you to all.

My dad came to soul end House Cow Lees in March after suddenly developing Front lobe dementia he was in the hospital for months and then went to a care home as he was at high risk of absconding but 2nd day got out so back to the hospital. Then a few months later went to another care home where he also
got out so back to the hospital. Manor Court Hospital was great with him then we worked together to try to move in with me but that didn't work so the manager of Manor Court who had recently taken over recommended Soul End House at Cow Lees and this place has been my saviour as I know he's safe. They work for the patients and their families and have good staff, my dad seemed as settled as I think he will ever be and I can sleep at night knowing that I won't get a call saying he got out and has been killed on a road or hurt.
It's been the hardest 14 months of my life and must be equally hard for my dad who has led an independent life for all his adult life but this place seems to make him feel OK and for that I thank them.

I would like to say that I am very impressed with the care and standards the team maintain in this facility; it is outstanding. The carers are so lovely, and their attention to the residents I cannot fault. I visit most days of the week, and it's like a family. I've got to know most residents and their
families, and it's just wonderful to go and feel so relaxed; the most important feeling is that your loved one is happy and being looked after under immaculate conditions. It's a wonderful place and environment, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you very much for your very kind comments; I will ensure I pass this on to the whole team. This will go a long way to making the team feel valued and motivated to continue all of the hard work they do.

My father was transferred to Cow Lees Care Home around eighteen months ago with Alzheimer's/dementia. Throughout this difficult time of Dad slowly deteriorating, the staff have been absolutely amazing. The care and support that they have given my dad is superb. Staff always on hand to talk to and support
the family. My dad always looks spotlessly clean and immaculately well-groomed. Throughout Covid there have been restrictions in place in the home but....these restrictions have kept my dad and other residents protected and I thank them for this.
There is a stigma with all nursing homes but they shouldn't all be put in the same category. Cow Lees is fantastic with all the care and support they have given Dad. I feel confident leaving my dad after visiting him, knowing he is safe and secure within Cow Lees.
Thank you to all that take such good care of my dad.

My husband is resident in Cow Lees Care Home Ltd for just over three years. The care given is excellent and the staff are brilliant. There is never a problem if I need to speak to senior staff or manager. Very good 2-way conversations to solve any problems. My biggest problem is about the furnishings
which are very poor indeed, it smells disgusting. Cow Lees Care Home Ltd needs money spending on it sooner rather than later.

We were concerned about how my father would settle in at Cow Lees after being at 3 other homes in a 9 month period.
He settled in very quickly and is very happy there. The staff are all very caring and look after the residents with care and compassion. They take the time to get to know the residents
and understand their various needs.
We are very thankful to all the staff for their care of my father.

This care home is excellent overall, the management and staff are always willing to go "the extra mile" to ensure residents are well looked after, caring at mealtimes that all residents have eaten and drunk, toileting is done regularly, residents are comfortable and as happy as they can be. There are
Namaste days and regular bathing. All residents are washed and changed for bedtime (not done in many places my husband has been). He is supported and encouraged to still maintain his freedom. Any outbursts are quickly monitored and medication rarely needed. He has a life back.

My partner, having previously been in two care homes, Cow Lees ticks all the boxes for everything. The home is spotless and the food is absolutely lovely which I know is all home cooked which I have sampled on a few occasions. I live in Coventry, don't drive so it takes about 2 hours to get here. When
I don't go I have no worries he has been cared for 100% because at the end of the day it is about him, not us.

Cow Lees cares very well for my brother who has late stage early onset dementia. They managed his initial very difficult and aggressive behaviour with professionalism and compassion. They continue to manage him well now that he is very immobile and unable to do anything for himself. The staff are lovely
and clearly like working at Cow Lees who seem to be a good employer.

My only reservation is that there could be more activities on the ward for the residents. I would like to see more input from therapists and perhaps occupational therapists. These are not things that my brother could access now because of the severity of his illness but some other residents could.

Cow Lees can clearly manage people with extremely difficult behaviour that other homes struggle to care for. They do so well and Sole End is an excellent building, purpose designed for people with dementia.
I can certainly recommend them.

My father has been a resident of Cow Lees for nearly 3 years as a dementia sufferer and in all that time we have found the management and staff to be very helpful, caring and patient. They will always take time to talk to the family and assist in any way possible. Before he became a resident at Cow
Lees, we had some poor experiences of other care providers during his periods of respite care, so it was a great relief when we made this permanent move and discovered from day one just how Cow Lees always puts the residents and their families first.

My father was admitted in Nov 2016 and passed away March 2017. I cannot praise the staff enough for their care and understanding during this difficult time. Dad had a diagnosis of Alzheimer's which gave rise to challenging behaviour and left him in a vulnerable state but he was made to feel welcome
and treated with dignity and respect. All areas were clean and tidy, bathrooms spotless and bed linen changed regularly. Residents clothes are laundered on site to a high standard, meals are cooked on site. All residents are clean and well dressed. Staff are friendly and approachable. Activity coordinators do their best to promote a happy atmosphere with singing, dancing, tea parties, Christmas concerts. Visitors are welcome at any time and good rapport is made with the staff. It is obvious that staff have been trained in dementia care and dad's end of life care was excellent. As a family, we can only send our thanks to all involved in making dad's last few months as comfortable as possible.

I find the staff at Cow Lees Care Home Ltd work extremely hard in sometimes difficult circumstances. In my mum's unit, they have a mix of residents with lots of different needs. It's good that a lot of the staff have been there a number of years. They get to know their residents which is very important.
For instance, my mum walks around all day and is never still for very long. They have to keep an eye on her constantly which can be very challenging but they are really patient with her. Our family are really pleased with the care she receives.

My mother has been at this care home for 2 years and 9 months having been at a home which could not cope with her sometimes challenging behaviour. Cow Lees Care Home Ltd has her settled and content in her surroundings due to the excellent management and staff. I have always found them to be helpful
and attentive. The care home itself is not the most modern and is a little shabby in some places but is always clean. There are activities laid on and the residents are encouraged to participate.

I'm very satisfied with the home and the care provided. Never have I walked in and smelled urine. The carers are so kind to the residents. They feed them a variety of meals to suit each one. My husband is now bedridden, they keep musical mornings singing together for those who choose to join in, lovely
foot soaks with quietly playing music.
Also, nice summer fete's the residents enjoy and Christmas concerts. It was our Diamond Wedding Anniversary last September 2015 and they arranged a lovely party for us and family including the residents as well. It's like visiting friends when you go through the door.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.284)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.284) out of 10 for Cow Lees Care Home Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.5 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.829 for Cow Lees Care Home Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (29 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 35 Ratings = 4.829

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.455 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cow Lees Care Home Ltd is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 73 registered maximum number of service users is 14.6. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.6 = 0.205

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
